Hey,

Just to see if there is any interest in having a little friendly word war between the Uni's, and if so, set one up.

So, if anyone wants to have any ideas about the format, the ideas and any potential punishments, feel free to post...

I'd be up for it - I'm at Heriot-Watt myself.

I'm not entirely sure how a word war works, so I don't have any suggestions or anything like that.

No idea about the format, but I'd be up for it. I'm at Edinburgh Napier.

Certainly an interesting idea. I'm at Edinburgh, so if anyone comes up with a format I'd be happy to throw in my word count :)

The simplest format would probably be to have people signing up for the wordwar ... and then simply take the average wordcount (as posted on the side) for each uni at the end of Nano. And of course there's always the highest individual wordcount.

If that's too simple, you can always add more rules. Like have a cut-off for signing up (and maybe for opting out too). Maybe add weekly wordwars too (highest average wordcount in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th week using the wordcount posted on this side at a certain time) or something like that.

Oh, and I'm not a student but staff (UoE).

Are we allowing staff? I think we shall, yes.
And I was thinking similar to what the regional word war is like. You sign up, then the number you start with is the number of people you take your average from, even if someone drops out (so say 5 of you start and 3 people drop out, those 2 remaining people still have their average taken by dividing by 5)

There are word count widgets, but I shall see if I can set up a freebie webpage to put the scores onto. The person who runs the UK scoreboard was from my region last year, so I shall see if she has any tips for us.

Good to see so many people signing up though!

Awesome idea! If you can organize it, that'd be great!

Wait... as ML, does that mean I have to be neutral?!

As ML, I think you have the right to do anything you want... and I'm happy to organise it.

Ok, so far I have signed up...

If I've got any wrong or anything, please tell me!! And get everyone else to sign up too. I saw several Heriot Watt people in the original early thread, so get them sorted into this

I'll start a new thread with rules, everything else and a link to the scoreboard sometime before the weekend

CompSci represent! I'm Edinburgh uni, and although I generally suck at word-wars (it takes me about 4 hours to get my daily wordcount) I'll give it a shot.

I'm at the University of Edinburgh, and I'd participate, but I have so many things to do I probably can't do too much to help organize it. It might be fun to have a reading party or something at the end with all of the University students though!

Good luck guys!

I'll give everyone till the end of the day today to sign up, then I'll post a link and start a new thread for a bit of banter...

Cheers for signing up everyone! Good luck!

oh, sign me up under edinburgh uni! :]

(also, since there are so many people at edinuni/students in general, we should quite clearly have some write-ins across campus, maybe on wednesday afternoons/evenings? good plan, y/n?)

Definitely like the idea of some kind of uni-related meetups. There seems to be lots of us!

Heriot-Watt at 0! Lies! I'm sure I posted up my word count before midnight last night.

Seems I'm still the sole representative of Heriot-Watt University :(
