Hi everyone! Although I've been registered with NaNoWriMo since 2006, this is the first year I'm going to actively participate lol i've got my workbook from Chris Baty at the ready with a blank notebook and pen.

I've been reading some of the recent posts that were emailed to me about meeting up and working together... sounds great, but you're all in Suffolk- and way out in Suffolk at that! I'm in Nassau and don't drive, not to mention I'm 8 months pregnant, so I can't travel far and wide for a get together.

Was wondering if there were interested parties closer to me in Bethpage who would like to meet up for support and whatnot?

Looking forward to hearing from you :)
Lynne

Hi Lynne,

I know what you mean about all the write ins & meet ups being in Suffolk County. I live in North Valley Stream and work in Lake Success, however I don't drive either and plan on dropping into the chat room to support and whatever. It's easier for me to get to Manhattan than points east, and I don't plan on going to the city until the weekends. If they keep messing with the subways doing that weekend construction, I may not make it there at all.

I hope you finish your 50k before your baby decides to make an appearance! Congratulations!

I live in Hempstead...not that far from Kyah, a little farther from Lynne. I do drive, though I am not (blessedly) 8mos pregnant. Maybe meeting at a nice, central place?

Howdy hi ho, spaghetti-os!
I live in the 5-Towns and do drive. If anyone wants to pick a place to meet-up, let me know where/when?

Hi Nassau friends...I am in New Hyde Park. Long Island should be split by county. Suffolk is too far for those who live in Western Nassau. As is having those far East trek all the way toward the city. It is much easier for me to get into Manhattan for meetings than out East. How about a weekly meeting at one of the libraries? Maybe we could library hop between four or five local libraries to accommodate everyone easier. I know there are plenty of conference rooms at Elmont. I am sure I could even think of something else centrally located, like near Roosevelt Field Mall.

here's a portion of someone's post from the "introductions and schedules" forum.

"I plan on writing every Monday and Wednesday at Borders in Nassau County, Old Country Road, from 6:30-8:30 for those of you who are interested in joining. I bring my laptop because there are tons of plugs around and they now have free WiFi....Nisha Sharma"

Hey guys,

That's my post quoted. I will definitely be at Borders on Old Country Road on Mondays and Wednesdays. If you guys want to meet at libraries on the weekend, keep me posted and I'd love to join! If not, then I'll be at Borders probably most Sundays. (I usually get there early because that's the only way to get good seats).

And good luck on your pregnancy! Wow, go you for writing during this time as well!

I work in Lake Success and pass the Elmont Memorial Library every night going home on the bus down Hempstead Turnpike. Uh, that's every night, every other week. When I work to 5:45, I usually head home via the Franklin Avenue bus. I can handle a write-in at the Elmont Library like the second and last week....

Hi, I actually live in Bethpage too!
My name is Victoria and this is my first time attempting any sort of long creative writing.
I'm a senior in high school, so things are a bit busy right now, but meeting up for support could be cool.
It would be nice to have more Nassau events.

I too am in Bethpage, so if any of you guys would like to plan a meet up around here I'm up for it. This is my second year participating, although I am pretty much continuing the book I didn't finish last year... ^^ . I was also thinking of stopping in at the Boarders in Westbury since it's close to my job on Monday, although that's not official yet. I would love to get more involved with people participating - I think that was a key aspect I was missing last year.

Hey Nisha,

I may come join you some days. I work near there on the weekends and live not far so it's a great location to meet. B&N and Borders and Panera Bread are my favorite writing spots! :-)

So how about, for the mobile, meeting at the Elmont Memorial Library on a few Sundays? Our choices are the 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th. Possibly all? I can sherpa during the coming week and discover the outlet/WiFi/attitude-of-staff parameters if folks are really interested.

Sounds good to me Mudge. I've never been inside that library, so I'm looking forward to it. If you mention NaNoWriMo to a librarian, s/he made suggest a spot where we can work unfettered by the general public.

Hello fellow Nassauians! Weird word, I just made it up. :) This is my first year in NaNoWriMo, although I've heard of it plenty times before. I wish you all the best of luck!

Ok, stupid wireless connection... here's to reply #2...

Wanted to say thanks to everyone for their replies.

I'm thinking of stopping by the Westbury Borders tomorrow night for a little bit, but it depends on how I sleep tonight and how I fare tomorrow during the day. Also depends on if my ride is willing to stick it out long enough for me put something on paper or .doc.

For those of us in the Bethpage area, I was thinking that maybe you'd want to meet up at the Bethpage library or one of the local cafes or Starbucks'. I think the one on Stewart Avenue has WiFi. If you want to email me to set something up, catch me at lynabeth24@gmail.com with Nanowrimo in the subject.

I'm looking forward to meeting you all, online or in person, and wishing everyone a slow success this month!

Oh, I have to admit, I'm cheating too... badly. I know the point of Nanowrimo is to start a fresh novel from complete scratch but... I've been working on a book for some time now and want to use this month as a chance to either finish it or make some incredible headway. Sorry if that disqualifies me but I can't do it otherwise- I don't have the discipline haha

Alright, this prego is off to bed for an early morning doctor appointment. Hoping to hear from you!!

Lynne,
Nobody is keeping score and the NaNo anti-terrorist SWAT team isn't going to swoop down on your house and confiscate your lap top. As I have understood it, Nano makes allowances to those who spend the month before on outlines and character development. So if you've done more that that, so what. You win by being part of the event.

Howdy all,
I'm a newbie with serious doubts about completing this. I'm not a writer but I read often enough that I've often given thought to trying my hand at it. I'm way behind but starting to find a bit of a rhythm and about ready to throw caution to the wind.

I'm writing a cheesy Zombie story full of cliches and stock characters set at a high school. I'm hoping it will good for some laughs.

I live in Great Neck and can't usually make the Borders group because of family conflicts but I may be able to stray into there this Wed. Evening the 11th.

Good luck to all,
Arthur
