I decided on writing a book of short stories. I've been planning really hard for a full length novel or even a novella but I got the feeling that my over-planning might be my ruin so I decided to just jot down some themes, characters, imagery to work off of when we start. Usually I take a day or two to finish a decent sized short story so I just may end up with a stack of 13-15 short stories! (I tend to over plan every detail because I studied Film at UM and in Screenwriting we were taught to do that pretty much... hard to break the habit!)
Prior to (self)publishing, I will probably insert stories I've written in the past too. But this if AFTER the word count of course! :)

What I'm writing this year:

Title: Pants Are For Amateurs
Cover Made?: No, but that sounds like a good break from trying to write...
Genre: Unrelated short stories mish-mashed into a single story-like thing...
Synopsis: A science fiction writer, feeling obsolete after an alien invasion, gets ridiculously drunk and makes some very stupid decisions (this story is now home to the 5k word punch!).
A budding young writer accidentally foils his college sweetheart's evil plot, but hopes they can remain friends...
A younger high school student fails to finish a book report! (it really is as exciting as it sounds!)
And, finally, celebrating the publishing of his first novel, a writer goes on an inspirational road-trip and runs afoul of a most disturbing secret society.**
Themes: Silly, often quite avoidable, misunderstandings...
Influences: I wouldn't blame this mess on anyone... -but I'm sure I've stolen from greats...

**this is not necessarily the order of appearance, as these were three completely separate short story ideas that shared only one thing (see theme) but have now been changed to incorporate the same MC who happens to have a slightly more interesting life than originally suspected. as well a whole new plot inserted itself without my knowledge (sweetheart) -the odd thing is how well the stories join and now give the MC an origin and motivation to become and do what he is and does...**
