VENUE CHANGE: Given the huge number of RSVPs for this first write-in, it was necessary to find some place that could accommodate all of us. Since it was such short notice, we're back at Whole Lot-A Gelata because a) they're big, b) they're free, and c) they're awesome! If anyone has suggestions for future venues that can take large numbers of people, please let me know.

Ah, write-ins...an opportunity for socializing without the pesky burden of actually talking to others. =)

But seriously, write-ins are a great way to stay motivated through the 30 days and nights of Nano. It can be tough to keep churning out those 1667 words per day. Sometimes the only thing that keeps you going is the thought that 100,000 other people worldwide are going through the same struggle. So why not have tea with some of them?

As with all our events, please buy at least a drink so you're not loitering.

Location

There are 20+ people planning to come, and Cafe 1842 is just not big enough. Luckily, Whole Lot-A Gelata was happy to take us again on such short notice. It is the same as our Kickoff venue, but it's a pretty great place, so I at least don't mind! They have outlets upstairs, tables and comfy couches, great food, AND they like us. =)

If price is an issue for you (because yes, many of their hot drinks and paninis are on the upscale end of things) just remember that they have many things for $1-$3 as well: coffee, tea, hot chocolate, pop, cookies, tarts, brownies and other baked goods.

Whole Lot-A Gelata, in Uptown Waterloo (120 King St. S.)

Transportation

Parking: There's street parking all along King St., a free parking lot on the southeast corner of Regina and Erb, or the Valumart/Town Square parking lot (accessible from King St. by the railroad tracks/Rude Native). There is also a parking lot behind the Marsland Centre (at Dupont and Albert, across from the library) that's free outside of business hours. Just check the sign.
Bus Routes: Uptown Waterloo is accessible via the IXpress, all of the 7s, the 5, and the 35.

I'll be there, granted I'll be a bit late. I'm not supposed to finish babysitting until 2, but I think I'll be able to leave there at 1.

I will be there, and I will be slightly mad looking. Is it wrong that I'm using crazy writerness to look like a unkempt hooligan for a month?

I thought not.

Count me in. Do you have any idea as to power availability? Should I bring a power bar thingy?

It would never hurt to bring one to a write-in. Cafe 1842 has outlets available, so we'll try to nab one, but it won't have enough space for everyone. I'll always [try to remember to] bring one, but a backup is a good idea in case I forget.

I might come, but it depends on how my writing goes, meaning if I'm writing up a storm at home I'm not going to stop, pack up and head over and run the risk of ruining my concentration (which is very easy to do...).

So, a firm maybe from me.

I only get my work schedule one week at a time, (goes up Thursday) so pending a day time shift, I will be there.

depending how quickly I can get my horses done on sunday, I may be there. A little late for sure if I do show up. I have a lesson to teach that morning, and three horses to ride so it's doable provided nothing else comes up at work.

I won't be able to make it because I'll be at the horse farm, helping out with pony rides for a kid who has a birthday and who brings his friends to the farm. Also, I have a riding lesson at 4:30, so I'll be at the farm all afternoon.

Maybe if there's another write-in I can be there.

I may be there, I guess that depends on my mood/how exhausted I am/if I want to get up from my chair at home and stop writing.

Anyone planning on staying later than 4?

Ends up I WILL be babysitting until 2, and by the time I get the bus and get over there? The Sunday bus schedule sucks, so it will likely be nearing 3. Feels like a bit of a waste, getting over there just for an hour, but if anyone is planning on staying past 4, I'll definitely go!

I agree with heraura, I will be there if I am need of encouragement and advice, but on the off chance that my first day of writing goes well, I will not want to interrupt the flow in case it never comes back! so, I will probably be there!

Hey guys,

It's awesome that there are so many of us who want to come out, but frankly, Cafe 1842 probably can't accommodate this many of us! So stay tuned, as I'm looking into where else we can go with 20+ people and laptops.

See you all tomorrow!
