hello!

Welcome to the Louisville Dares Thread!

For those new to NaNo, dares of various kinds are a long-standing tradition. You can find the official Dares Thread in the Plot Doctoring forum. There you’ll find some absolutely hilarious dares such as, daring you to have a singing cat that narrates your entire novel, to more structural word challenges (like, write a chapter without using the word “the”. I accomplished this one year, but only because I write short chapters.)
If you’re looking for some fun inspiration, I’d suggest checking out the official Dares Thread.
But I digress…

Every year we start a thread in the Louisville Regional Forum where we dare each other to include certain things in your novel. We try to make them things that people can use, no matter what genre you’re writing. And every year at the Kick-Off Party, we ask all attendees to put a word they’d like to challenge everyone to use in a box. We then draw two of these words and present them here in the forums for everyone to see.

This year we ended up drawing three words. And they are:
big girl panties
appetizer
sorghum

And so the challenge has been made! The dare, if you choose to accept it, is to include any or all of these words in your novel next month.

And if you have any dares you’d like to throw down to your fellow Louisvillians? Go for it! Reply here with your dare!

You are also invited to bring a short excerpt from your novel to the TGIO Party to share with everyone how you used the dares.

5days away from writing!

I made it to 712 words before I hit the hay around 1am. The site wouldn't let me enter my count at that time and still had the words "NaNo has yet to begin" below the count box.

well, if you'd come to the kick-off party...

anyway, you could always post a tree dare now.

I had heard this as a complete statement used to tell a female to quit being dramatic and get on with life. The full statement, which by Google search even revealed a book by the same title, is "Put on your big girl panties and deal with it." The book, on which I have not yet read the synopsis, can be found at amazon at http://www.amazon.com/Put-Your-Girl-Panties-Deal/dp/1402208820

New dare for everyone ... have a character who has, or refer to the character trait of, synesthesia. In short, it's where someone gets their senses a bit crossed, like seeing numbers in color, or tasting colors, etc. For a full explanation, visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synesthesia

Yes, Garrett, please post a tree dare now. Find a little bit of a wood discussion with some interesting twists on wood words started by Joel at this thread: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/3273056

I would if I could remember all the past trees so that people on here don't think I'm being random. But I can't. So I won't. At least not yet.

Also, I already have how I'm going to do "big girl panties" but I have to get to the point to use it so I'm going to post it so I don't forget it later: It'll be said by a more sarcastic character to her guy friend who's being particularly wimpy. "Are you still pulling up or are you on big girl panties yet?"
