...... and I'm somewhat ill prepared.

I have plot. I have characters, but they don't all have names, and my map is still in first draft form.

Anybody else finding that they are drastically running out of time to plan before November rolls around?

Wow

I am ecstatic that I even have a plot LOL

No real characters yet, no planning no mapping yet...

I had nothing much Sunday but now I have most of a plot at least ... ! ! ! woohooo.

Ah... I was just more prepared in previous years, compared to this year... and one of my characters is begging for a name, but nothing fits..... :(

I have my plot (though I still need to actually write out my outline) and characters... but what's eluding me is a title! I've looked around and seen a few people who already seem to have titles for their work, is that normal? (Sorry, this is my first year.)

Nothing I've come up with so far seems to quite fit. Though I suppose title isn't among the most crucial elements to begin with, is it?

I wouldn't worry too much about the title. Odds are that you'd want to change it anyway.

I usually don't worry about trying to think about aa title until the last couple of days, since the story could change so much in 30 days.

I wouldn't stress about the title either (not that I'm any sort of expert). I have a title, but I may as well have put Selley's (Fills The Gap) as that's all it's there for :D

I think a title should reflect where the story ultimately goes, and there's no guarantee that it's going to take the direction you planned for it while underway, you know?

I'm less well-prepared than I'd like to be, particularly since I have such a busy week ahead. I'm doing Reiki I on Saturday so there goes a whole day of planning! And I still have no idea how to use yWriter!

I tried embedding one of those neat hours, minutes and seconds countdown widgets in the forum header, but the html defeated me. You will all have to imagine it there...

I felt extremely unprepared until last Sunday night, when my main characters introduced themselves to me (names and all!). It has helped ease my mind a bit, but I think that even if I hadn't gotten that far, that when Nov 1 rolls around it would have just worked out. I wouldn't worry too much, I'm sure it will fall into place as soon as you start writing :)

I agree about titles - I never have one I like until the end. Then I'll sit and agonize over it haha Nothing every seems to encapsulate the entire piece the way I want it to, but then again, I'm very picky.

Oh! And I just wanted to say that a good friend of mine (and fellow first time NaNo-er) Liia will be joining us at the write in on Sunday! I told her you're all wonderful, so you have to be nice :P She couldn't make the meet & greets at Dome because she was away in Seabird last weekend.

LOL Kudos for trying :D We shall imagine it then. But not until Saturday night, too much other stuff between now and then! The worst is going to be the first week, as I'm still working . . . I feel lucky that I can eliminate almost all the kinds of worries that other Wrimos have - kids, study, and now work.

I shall have to try to make lots of stews and soups to freeze, so that I don't have to cook :D

Hey, Dani :) I'm so glad your characters are so gregarious! I had to discover all mine LOL hunt them down, as it were. I also love that you're so confident - can you pass some of that to me? :D

Squeee! Recruits! I tried to recruit a friend but she honestly does have enough on her plate, so I didn't try too hard. I would love to have a previous acquaintance to write with me, I don't, so you lot will have to step up to the plate. I think you're all admirable people so I'm looking forward to bonding with you guys over the month!

Kat, the confidence is shaky at best, but I'd be happy to share it around! I certainly didn't feel that way over the weekend... And everytime I think of a possible plot hole in my story, it fades LOL But I'm creating little character bio's at the moment, just so I can get a good feel for them, and it's helping to fill in some gaps. I think the hardest part is not writing anything yet! Having all these conversations/images/scenarios floating around in my brain and having to hold them off until Sunday is tough :)

And actually, it's my friend who recruited me! But I think that I'll need lots of motivation half way through November, so I'll be looking to everyone for an occasion nudge :D

I've got no outline, barely any character names and my laptop is not even working at the moment! =O
Plus I don't seem to have any time to change these things (except the laptop, bf is currently fixing it, huzzah!)

And then there's all these doubts...

Agree on the hardest part being not writing. I have commitment issues and am terrified that my enthusiasm will fade before I'm able to indulge it!

pureleeawesome - get that lappie fixed, pronto! Goodness, what a horrific thought! If my laptop went down . . . *panics* . . . oh, gods, the horror!

Okay, now I'm panicking all over again . . . mine has been "on the way out" for ages now but . . . well, you know. These things are just things we never get around to! And it would be my luck for it to completely crap itself on November 14th, just as I'm really ramping into a writing frenzy, and then I'd not only have to organise its hospital stay (and fees) but also relocate myself and my habits to the local library! The horrors! No tea as I write! *sob*

But it's too late to get it fixed now . . . I'll just have to take my chances . . .

LOL You sound like me, if my laptop even THINKS about losing anything I write in November, in pretty sure I'd have to voluntary committ myself, because the effect on my mental state would be violent and explosive! I'll be treating my computer extra special for all of November (are there laptop day spas? Lol) just so she repays the favour. And yes, my laptop is a she :)

Deep breaths, Kat!

Luckily I have a techno-geek boyfriend whose fixing it (it needs a new hard drive apparently) and he's already managed to get all my documents off the old hard drive.

I'm hoping I can make it to the first write-in, I have halloween celebrations the night before, and training on the Sunday. Feels like there is so much to do and no time to do it!

Thanks, Dani :D I figure I've got leeway up my sleeve in case it does die, not having to work and all. I can do this, even if it's in the library. They'll just have to learn to really like me.

I wish I had a techno-geek in my life somewhere :( it would be so handy. But no, I shall have to get myself to one of those computer hospital places in December. I can hear them already, making fun of everything from my wallpaper to the age of my laptop to my total lack of . . . well, anything resembling IT knowledge :D

pureleeawesome, you're the first person I know of in Oz doing the Halloween thing :D What kind of trianing do you have?

Heh, my Halloween celebrations is actually in the form of a mask ball that is organised by the WA SCA group. And with that same group I do rapier (it's like fencing) training.

I have a beginning and an end ... it is that pesky middle that is going to be a problem.
Having no Lap top, I may just pop in for a cuppa at the write in with pencil and paper (and eraser).
Will there be opportunity to bounce an idea?????
See you there.

Big Bang!!! OMG! Such an awesome show! But I always forget - my TV hasn't been turned on in weeeeeks :D I think I might be in love with Leonard :) But certainly not Sheldon. What a frootloop!

Jealous of the SCA thing, but to be honest, I would always feel so inadequately educated and threatened at such events. But then, I feel like that most of the time . . . *shrug* It's okay, it's not like I could possibly jam another hobby in my life anyhow :D Not that it stops me trying . . .

I've only been going for two months and it really depends on who you talk to/hang out with at the events. But, they're still really lovely people. If you ever want to go, let me know and you can tag along with me. Strangely there seems to be quite a few SCA members doing NaNo this year.

Hmm, maybe. I might have to get a whole lot braver before then, though :) Especially since now I don't drink, I can't fall back on the ol' Dutch courage ROFL

Hehe, I fell on the same kind of courage at my first major event (a camping weekend) and I'm still getting teased about it.

Also, I need courage because I have decided to change my plot for NaNo to one I just thought of a few hours ago. Indecisiveness for the win!

Hehehe :D What does it say about me that I haven't even considered any other ideas at all? I am not even tempted to? Usually I am fickle and inconstant, but this one has me totally content. I may yet decide it's all too damn much before it even starts (nah :D) but I'll be doing the same story!
