Ways to contribute:
If you've got nothing, don't worry. Just do all of your research at www.goodsearch.com and before you start, select the "Office of Letters and Light" as your charity. When you verify, it will tell you the OLL is in Oakland, California--and you'll know you've got the right place. That's the umbrella organization for NaNoWriMo (and Script Frenzy, too). Every search will donate one cent; and that seems small. But we're all familiar with the effect of small actions by a large group of people.
If you're coming to the Kick-Off, any Write-In, or the TGIO. I'll have a jar, bucket or piggy bank--something--to collect loose change at each of these. All proceeds will be donated to NaNoWriMo in the name of our region! Yay! So pennies, nickles, dimes, quarters (or dollars) are appreciated. And you can unload that heavy annoyance, doing good at the same time!
If you like goodies. Shop at the NaNoWriMo store. Each purchase kicks some dollars into the coffers, and you can have some lovely tee-shirts, hats, posters, merit badges, and other goodies to mark your place among the ranks of the noble and brave!
If you have a credit card--just kidding! If you're looking for a halo . Donate $10 or more. You can do this through the site, but be sure to include your username in all the appropriate fields, including the "username" field--or else you won't get the halo and our region won't get the little tick for your contribution.
We're a small region, but we rock NaNoWriMo!

I put the Elsewhere::Micronesia donations jar on the table at the regional Kick-Off Party. So far we've collected $8.30.
The first $10 we donate will be donated in the region's name. The rest will either be donated in the region's name or in lucky individual regional member's names--see below:
I could donate all collections in the name of the region, but I'm thinking it might be fun if we also give out halos--which are available for every $10 donation. So if anyone in the region would like a halo added, thanks to our regional donations, please sign in here. I'll draw a name at random for each $10 we collect.

Thought I'd share this information from Austin ML, Lazym:
Make sure you are affiliated and homed with your region name.
If you don't know how to do this, see this presentation.
In the Donation/Store, when you've selected a donation amount, you'll see several text boxes.
In the Which event owes you its thanks? box, select NaNoWriMo.
In the NaNoWriMo/Script Frenzy Username box, make sure to type your user name.
The regional totals for word count and donations are linked to a) your user name and b) where you set your home.
NaNoWriMo is grateful for your donations! And we're happy you're homed with us.

Just like to say that I donated to Nano before I figured out I needed to set my region ... it doesn't look like my donation was counted for our region as I never saw the amount jump after I made the donation.

Usually, if you donate >$10 you get a halo, unless of course you didn't want that. But if you didn't say skip the halo, you might want to f/u with OLL to make sure they got the donation etc.
I've been using Goodsearch a lot for research--I have been hanging around some seriously icky sites on serial killers, learned how to pick a lock, and raided Mike Tripp's blog for some details on an underwater beach clean-up.

We have a few halos popping up in our forums now! Thanks so much.
Also, I want to thank everyone who uses GOODSEARCH (instead of Google) with the Office of Letters and Lights as your charity, or who purchases merchandise from the NaNoWriMo store. You don't get halos for these activities, but it really helps, too.
