Okay. We live in Pierce County. Who wants to have a mascot for the area? I've been told we don't have one. If anyone has a suggestion, bring it on. Let's find a mascot who can cheer us on during our word count dark days.

Well, weird and dreary as it may sound, maybe we have a happy little smiling raindrop as our mascot? I'm sure no one else has had that idea, and it'll certainly be different.

I like the idea of a raindrop! What about if it is a sad raindrop with a droopy voice, like that car from the simpsons episode ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAR5uTEXMTM )

I've always thought that the rubber duckies were washington's mascot. I have one around here from nano's past . . .

this poll will be up for the duration, but if no one else is going to chime in we're electing a raindrop! Let me know your thoughts.

I'm Charlie and very new to the group and to Nano, yet glad to be here with such motivated locals. Now, in regards to the mascot, how about the Tacoma Thrashers or the Tacoma Tide Flats. Well, thats enough out of me. Good Luck to everyone.

I'm diggin' either the raindrop or duckie idea. They're both Washington-esque. :)

I found my rubber ducky, he's small and yellow and adorable. Rubber duckies all the way!

I'm hearing a lot of people saying we've had Rubber duckies for Washington's mascot. But what about Pierce County's mascot? What should our REGIONAL mascot be?

Hmmm.. a quick glance through Google shows a few mascots associated with us:
Lily the Ladybug
"Jack" the 800 lb bear
the Ellsworth Panther
and a few others. None of these seem all that inspired to me. I'm picky like that, I guess. Id prefer something with a bit of character to it. Or at least something different. A coffee bean, maybe. Nah. Hey, how about the Pierce County Pirate? Yes, I'm suggesting that mostly because I'm doing a pirate story.
We could go with a zombiepirateninjarobot. That would mean I finally get to see what one looks like. Yes!

The rubber ducky started in 2004 when Chris Baty came to Washington and a bunch of wrimo's went to hear him talk. We all brought rubber duckies so that we could show our solidarity and find one another easily. At write-ins people would put a rubber ducky on the table so that you would know where to go.
As for me, I like the fact that you can actually go and buy a rubber ducky. I'm a hands on kind of person and thinking that my mascot is something isn't the same as having it sitting nearby, silently cheering me on.

Personally, I kind of like the raindrop idea. It fits Washington in general, and Pierce county. And rubber ducks just don't seem that inspirational to me. Although I like the idea of a zombie-pirate-ninja-robot more I think. Mainly because I like all of those things and each time I saw it I'd probably get a chuckle and smile.
EDIT: The reason I think the rain drop would also make a good idea is because it shows the anguish we will go through the 'smiling face' will remind us not to let it all go to waste.

I like the Raindrop idea too. Could we put calligraphy letters in the raindrop, perhaps a word or two and perhaps a few letters
scrambled.
Then we would have a neat effect within the raindrop working with short sentences, letters and magnification.
Literally: Writing raindrops of inspiration!
