Hey all!

So let us get into a discussion of the many literacy genres. What is your favorite genre to read and why? What about your favorite to write? And, of course, how about your least favorite for both situation?

Personally, I love to read a good mystery/thriller. My favorite book is The Blue Nowhere, which has twists and turns on nearly every page. I love it because it keeps you on your seat. Also, if a writer is really good, just when you think you’ve figured things out, the truth is revealed and it is nothing like what you were expecting! Actually, suspenseful novels are my favorite to write, as well, for the same reasons I love to read them. On the other hand, I cannot say I’m a huge fan of romance books. Unless written extremely well, they just don’t have the same “kick” that I look for in both reading and writing.

Ok, your turn!
Susan

Mom, you snuck on!

Anyway! I'm in about the same boat: I love a good detective story. I didn't actually realize this until I looked at all of my favourite novels and noticed all but a few involved solving mysteries. At the same time, a dash of humour is great to add to any day. Combine the two and I'm sold beyond belief. (e.g. Jasper Fforde) On the other hand, I bristle at almost all poetry and most straight romances. To be fair, not all, but few can keep my attention for long.

I have to say the same. I love a good Thriller. Filled with suspense and keeping you guessing till the end. Though I do love some paranormal thrown in too. :)

In the Dark had ghosts, Don't Touch was a psychic thriller one of the characters having the gift of psychometry, and HALF well that's a damnphire/ vampire tale... LOL

I don't think there's one thing I like to wirte more than the other I write all kinds of things from westerns to kissy stories LOL. Though my romances usually aren't the center of the story it's always the mystery or something then the characters find their way together in the middle of it LOL.

I'm confused......or surprised. Your answer to my question is going to be the deciding factor LOL

You said you bristle at almost all straight romance. Now do you mean straight as in man x woman? Are you into yaoi? Or do you mean straight as in straight up mind candy, heaving bosoms, bodice ripping, carry the poor delicate heroine off to your castle in the clouds *snarf, gag* romance?

I meant "straight romance" as in "any story where romance is the main feature/attraction." The genre just doesn't do much for me.

Awe a good bodice ripper on a rainy day can be fun to read. At least a good laugh with all the funny "terms" LOL
