About then most of us might be a little low on the word count, and since the national organization is meeting in San Fran that weekend, I thought maybe we could have our own get together.

Deno suggested something like The Golden Griddle on Wellington. It is open 24hrs has food and lots of fresh coffee, and 24 hr breakfast. It is a pretty large venue. Maybe we could approach them and get them to push 4 or 5 tables together in the back corner? Maybe we could convince them to throw in a bottomless coffee cup flat rate for anyone with a laptop?

Maybe from Saturday noon through to Sunday noon? Or at the very least 6pm Sat until 6 am Sun? Drop in spend a few hours banging away and boosting the word count?

Perhaps some input from our ML is appropriate at this point. Jen is this idea NaNoWriMo worthy?

Anyone else have any ideas here?

I'm game! Sounds like it could be fun. Perhaps for our first attempt we should look at Sat. 6 pm to Sun. 6 am. Twelve hours seems pretty daunting to me.

I don't think anyone should feel compelled to stay and write for 12 hours. Show up...have some food...write....and move on when real life calls!

It does sound like a fun way to spend a night.

I've actually been considering this and other regions are doing it too, so it's definitely NaNo-worthy! I think if we have enough people interested (and who will go), we can definitely plan it!

I've never been to the Golden Griddle, but it sounds like a pretty good place to have an-night write-a-thon. :)

I went to this Golden Griddle today, it was a nice little place not TOO cheap for the food, but noticed one minor problem. Nowhere that I looked could I see an outlet. I don't know about anyone else but my laptop won't last more than an hour on battery (It's horrible I know). After 12 hours I'm not sure who wouldn't need some power.
I didn't inquire more because I was in a group and we were rushed, but that might be a factor to consider. Oh, and it was mostly booths from where I saw, so tables together might also be tough. Has anyone else been there that knows more that I'm missing?

A few problems have come up regarding this, such as the LTC strike which begins tomorrow. There's a slim chance it may not last the week, but it probably will. I rely on the bus, so getting to and from there will be a problem. (And even if the buses were still running, I'd still have to wait until 7 or 8 Sunday morning to catch one to go home!) Plus, a personal matter has come up and I'd prefer to be at home Saturday evening/night just in case.

And as someone mentioned above, we'd need outlets for our laptops.

As an alternative, we could have a shorter write-a-thon downtown during the day on Saturday. Say, 5-6 hours in and around the library. There we'd pretty much be guaranteed outlets, there are places to buy food and caffeine (food court in the other half of the plaza, Little Red Roaster, Coffee Culture across the street). We could switch locations for a change of scenery... And it's during the day so our younger Wrimos can participate without worrying the heck out of their parents by staying up all night with a bunch of strangers. ;)

That said, if some of you still want the all-night write-a-thon, go ahead! I'll leave the planning up to you. :)
