I know, I know, everyone's goal is to write 50,000 words in November. That's the whole idea of Nanowrimo, right?

But a lot of people set individual goals within that overarching Nanowrimo goal. Some people challenge themselves by setting higher word counts. Some people may only want to complete a story even if doesn't fill 50k words. Both are amazing goals! Everyone is different, writes at different paces, is looking for something different in the experience.

So, what are your personal goals this November? If it's just to reach 50k, that's great. If it's to write for a certain length of time or a certain number of words every single day, fabulous. If it's to attend all the write-ins and regional events, awesome (and Ted and I will love you). If it's to be at 10k by the end of the first weekend, wicked. If it's to use as many dares in your story as you can, you are crazy, but awe-inspiring.

So, set yourself a challenge. It can be anything!

My goal this year is to write 60,000 words. I have made it to 50,000 the past few years, and I feel like I need to challenge myself a little bit more. Another, lesser challenge, is to actually finish my story. I have four years worth of beginnings and middles, but no ends. I'd like to wrap it up in one concise tale written in November this time. That is going to be a tough challenge for me!

What's your goal or challenge?

Please note: there is a chance that a (very) small prize will be awarded if you set a goal here and reach it. Just sayin.

Best of luck!

My goal is to use part of Nanowrimo this year to finish the novel I'm currently working on (started 8/1/09, 92,000 words and counting!)

I'd then like to get at least 30K on my new one, literary/commercial fiction, working title: "It's Better Than Thinking".

Hope I can do it...

Love the Bradbury quote, btw!

I'm aiming at 60K words, too, but I'm aiming at enough of them being usable at the end that editing won't be a real chore. Last year's NaNovel was okay, and I'm glad I wrote it, but it's NOT publishable in any form. It needs a top-to-bottom re-write.

So the goal is more, better words.

My goal is to write 50,000 words while still keeping the plot intact. In 2004, I wrote 50,000 words of a story as it occurred to me, with no outlining or plotting beforehand. I actually ended up liking a lot of it - but the overall lack of a plot made it impossible to rewrite or edit. This year I'm going to see what happens when I start with a definite plot and follow it through

My goal is to FINISH my novel. Not just writing 50,000 words, but to finish the story. Every year I hit 50k and my story is nowhere near finished. I think I have my story planned out this year very well and it should fit in 60k words or so, but the word count (as long as its 50k! ) doesn't matter - I just want to have a story from beginning to end! I know Ted has already said he'll go an extra week with me to make sure our novels are finished ;)

I'm shooting for at least 60K, maybe more like 75K. Has to be complete, and my 'new' goal for this year is to not skimp on quality. I don't want to spend two weeks doing typographic cleanup like I did last year.

I think I'm going for a nice round 60k this year. It's 2000 a day, and I know I can make that. I also want to get all of the important scenes written and in order before the 30th, which would be a first for me (although that's not the one I'm going to be counting towards for any such prize, it's just a secondary goal for the month).

My goal doesn't particularly stretch the rules of NaNo, but still, it should be excitingly strenuous: 50k of novel, and a completed draft of my master's thesis, by the end of November. (It doesn't have to be a good draft.) All null and void if I fail any of my classes.

Okay, strike that. It's November 2nd and I'm already having to revise my thinking. On the positive side, it looks like my outline is comprehensive enough that I shouldn't have (too) much trouble "keeping the plot intact" - awesome.

However, it turns out that I vastly underestimated the number of words I need to get through each scene in a logical way. So, new goal: Finishing the novel this month. (80K seems about right, but I'm going to avoid putting an exact number on it until I reach 50K.)

Two days in and I've hit my daily goal both days, so I'm really glad of that. Additionally, I'm 1300 words ahead of where I was this day last year.

Taking a break now that I've finished the first chapter of the story to process the last of the garden's tomatoes before I lose them.

How are you all doing?

Since this is my first round, and I only heard of Nanowrimo a day before it started, my goal is to complete my first solid attempt at a novel. I realize this is the point, but as a first timer, it's a pretty big goal! I want to keep on task during the days I have off from work in the hopes that it will keep me on goal so that I don't have to push too hard on words and sacrifice quality at the end of a workday. The only other writing I've done before is short personal essay so this will be something completely new and different. I haven't been in school in a few years so I'm excited to stretch my creative mind a bit and see what happens!

Second this! I have only won Nano once in all the years I've been doing it. So finishing at all would be a huge deal for me.

My goal was to make it somewhere worth mentioning on the Top Ten list , and I've done that already. But what I really want is to hold a place in the top 20, and if last year taught me anything its that once some of you out there get started, you don't stop! Speaking as someone who finished on the last day, I'd like to see much more from myself.

Well, so far so good.
