Having received a few emails from people in the area, I thought it would be a good idea to set up a meeting in mid-Sussex for people from the north or local area. Unfortunately I don't know the area that well, having recently moved here. So if anyone has a venue they can recommend, that would be great. I'm contacting local pubs to see how they'd react to a bunch of laptop-hoggers for several hours. So far, I've gotten three answer phones and one 'sod off'. Go figure.
If we can arrange a meeting place, I'd be more than happy to arrange a weekly meet. I did NaNoWriMo in Aberdeen, where I met the local NaNo-ers and we'd bash out several thousand words over coffee in a café. We used 'meetings' to boost word count, not for quizzes or gossip, so I'll be honest and say I'm looking to set up something that will benefit my word count (conversation is not banned... I'm not militant, just really bad at stopping talking...). I found these meetings really helped me get back on track (and certain people really helped solve my plot holes... and certain barmen really helped fill in my fantasy problems... oops, did I say that out loud?)
If anyone's interested in a H.Heath/Burgess Hill meet, let me know. We Just have to find the venue.
Happy writing and good luck everyone,
Christina

Just to clear up any confusion, the MLs will also be organising group writing sessions, we simply like to differentiate between 'write-ins' and 'meets'.
All work an no play leads to breaking down bathroom doors with fire axes (or just epic writer's block), so we've found that taking some time off for a couple of hours a week just to chat and play some games and have coffee or something more alcoholic can recharge the cells. It can also provide new inspiration, whether just from chatting with other NaNoers or dipping into the Panic Jar.
Write-ins are useful, yes, but remember that NaNo is meant to be fun, as well as challenging.
I'll look forward to changing your mind about meets if you can make it to any.

Thank you for mentioning the other meetings. I am aware that NaNo is fun. I have several social nights dancing during the week, so I am capable of having a good time.
To clarify for anyone else, these will not be a 'sit in silence writing' meeting. Although you can if you like. More of a 'chance to get some writing done with the support of others.' Possibly over a glass of wine. We already have two or three of us, from the Burgess Hill/H.Heath area. Anyone is welcome to join us (and suggest a venue if you have one) :)
It's getting closer!

Hi Christina
Have you had any luck with finding a venue? I'm definitely interested in meeting up on a regular basis (and I'm sure it will be both fun and... well, useful).
Haywards Heath would be best for me.

Hi Åsa, I was hoping to arrange a kick off meeting, either Saturday or Sunday. What ever suites. There's a pub in Haywards Heath, opposite Zavvi, that might be a good place to start. And there are café's galore along the same street (although some might not be open Sundays). We could do a couple of them and see which we like best (and which one's look at us funniest).
If you don't know H.Heath that well, I can arrange to meet you somewhere easy to find, and walk you there.
As for weekly meets, I suggest Tuesday or Wednesday? We can decide the venue this weekend if you attend. If not, I'll go off hunting myself and see what I find.
Look forward to meeting you,
Christina

Mental blank - where is Zavvi? I've lived round Haywards Heath/Burgess Hill my whole life and work in Haywards Heath but I'm drawing a complete blank!

*slap's head* Zizzi, not Zavvi. Typing with mind on autopilot, sorry. It's the restaurant opposite the park, on that awful one-way junction?

Okay, just so that people know, a time and date is set for the first Haywards Heath write in. Anyone is welcome to come along. We're meeting at The Star pub in town, which is opposite Zizzi's restaurant. Anyone who needs help with directions feel free to PM me.
Tuesday 3rd of November
The Star Pub
6.30pm - onwards
If we don't like the venue, we can always move. Please let me know if you're likely to be later than 7.15, so that we don't move before you get there! :-)
Hope to see some of you there,
Christina

Well, we'll be meeting on Tuesday, 5.30pm onwards, at The Burrell Arms, Haywards Heath. This pub is directly opposite the train station, on the roundabout. Can't miss it!
Nina and I will be there. This is a write-in, for anyone who wants to join us and bump up their word count in a friendly, encouraging atmosphere. Any questions, feel free to send me a message.
If you're thinking of attending, please let us know, so we know who we are waiting for :)

Hiya, just doing my first Nanowrimo. In Burgess HIll. I am up for some word count boosting activity if there are other Buggers Hole-ites out there, with a drink and some typing in mind.

Unfortunate though it may be, I am also a Buggerite... Although I don't write here because faaaaaaar too many people know me... and there's nowhere decent to get some writing done...
I'm also not going to the official mid-sussexs meets because I have an unreasonable loathing of the Star and the Burrell Arms. I go to the Dolphin instead, which (usually) has multiple roaring fires (perfect for chucking unruly novel pages onto) and comfy seats (if you're willing to fight for the death for them, which I so am).
So yes. I will probably be in the Dolphin pub in Haywards Heath this weekend *thumbs up*

Ah yes I know the Dolphin well, as we lived in the Heath before moving to the Hole. Sadly I have now learned that we have 'family visits' descending on us this weekend, which means I can't get some peace and a pint elsewhere, and have to grin and bear it and covertly tippy-tap when i can escape the room. Arses.
I must admit, I was hard pushed to think of a suitable Hole venue. There's so much more choice in Brighton. You do get a bit spoiled. The only one I used to enjoy until they changed management was the Woolpack, mainly cos it was big enough to hide in a corner away from the kids and the olds.
