Funny story. I started a thread that invited comments from anyone who wanted to chime in with their perspectives and experiences on the wide spectrum of topics related to censorship. The thread was immediately locked. lol.

That's one example of censorship. Has anyone else run into censorship issues? Writers shouldn't have boundaries! Writers should be free to explore and express every idea and concept!

So I'll start this thread off with an example of censorship from my own experience, and then we can talk about that, or we can talk about examples of censorship from your experiences. The topic of censorship fascinates me, so I'd love to sink my teeth into conversation about any of your experiences with censorship.

Some censorship is for safety. But it seems to me that censorship is misdirected in most cases.

I dealt with censorship a couple of years ago when Don Boose (the webmaster of http://www.simplyscripts.com) decided to permanently ban my series called Banana Chan ( http://www.bananachan.tk ) from his web-site. One day, there were 34 episodes of my series on his web-site, the next day the entire series was permanently banned. When I asked him why he banned the series, he replied, "I don't need to answer questions from you." This was a major setback for me since historically many scriptwriters have been "discovered" by producers at http://www.simplyscripts.com , and he banned me at a time when my scripts were starting to get a lot of very positive reviews from the people who participated at that site. So, in other words, it was getting very possible that I would be the next major "discovery" from that site, and then the webmaster banned me permanently. Although Don didn't tell me what the problem was, I was able to coax one of his friends into identifying the problem. And it turned out that the problem was that my scripts had content that is contrary to the political agenda of the site. So, in other words, if a major production company were to discover me from that site, it would have been contrary to the political leanings of the webmaster of that site. So, it was censorship, and it was unfair.

Any other experiences with censorship?

Wow Alan, the example of censorship you mentioned is interesting ... being banned from SimplyScripts because of the political agenda of the site -- that's weird. But it also intrigued me, so I read your story Banana Chan, and all I see is a really well-written story with positive moral values. In fact, Banana Chan was the best story that I've ever read in my life, and you are immediately my favorite writer.

What I don't understand is why that other thread you started was locked.

*me*

Hey thanks for the comments. You're not the first person who said that Banana Chan was the best story they've read. But other things which are, and have been, at the unproduced scripts section of simplyscripts.com are also really good. I recommend Bruce Snyder's series of unproduced scripts called THE LUNCHROOM, Steven Cameron's series of unproduced scripts called BETTER DAYS, and George Willson's series of unproduced scripts called THE FEMPIROR CHRONICALS.

*pretending to be someone else*

Fempiror?

*me*

I know. I hate the title too. But if you read it, it's actually a damn good story, and it deserves to be produced. A lot of the unproduced scripts at simplyscripts are waaaaay smarter than the crap that actually gets produced for TV and movies. Producers aren't looking for smart scripts, they're looking for dumb scripts. Elites don't want an informed public. That's why the documentary ZEITGEIST (the best freaking documentary ever made) never got a theatrical release.

*pretending to be someone else*

Yeah, I did love Zeitgeist, especially the religion part.

*me*

Same here. I had a wide smile during that entire part, and I thought "finally this was cleared up so people can stop fighting", so I sent everyone on my mailing list links to http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com which is where they can watch the full documentary for free online, but not everyone liked it as much as I did. At IMDB, the reviews are all tens and ones, because people either extremely love it or extremely hate it. I'm in the category of people who extremely love it.

*pretending to be someone else*

Yeah, me too. Same here.

*me*

Zeitgeist showed me that there's this whole other world out there "beyond the veil", so to say. I saw it in 2007, and it set me on a path of researching a lot of stuff. My favorite authors switched from J.K. Rowling and a bunch of other people who everyone reads, to a lot of people who most people haven't heard of, and I'm way happier :)

*pretending to be someone else*

Me too.

*me*

The little box that everyone has closed themselves into is way too freaking small. There's so much I wish I could tell them ... especially the alien stuff. If only these people could open their eyes just a bit more ...

*pretending to be someone else*

Tell them through stories you write.

*me*

That's really the only option. My novel's gonna blow their minds wide open.

*pretending to be someone else*

Your NaNo novel?

*me*

Yeah. RED PROGRAM. When I finish writing it, I'll immediately self-publish it with cafepress.com and I'll make it available at the online store which can be accessed through my web-site http://www.bananachan.tk

*pretending to be someone else*

I'll buy a copy!

*me*

Damn right you will! *shakes fist*
