So I (obviously) didn't make it to the kick-off gathering, cause of a prior engagement at 7:30. But I am for sure, for sure coming to the write-in at the diner. My question is: since I didn't go, what should I look for so I don't miss you guys?
I'm sure I'll stand out like a sore thumb, I'm not dressing up. :P
Thought it might be helpful just in case there are others who couldn't make the first meet up..

Well, we should be at a fairly large table at Santa Cruz Diner, and I will be wearing my fabulous electric day-glo monkey puke yellow ML t-shirt. If you miss that horrible t-shirt, you are blind and insensitive to t-shirt radiation (if you look close enough, you can actually SEE the wiggly radiation lines coming off this thing - or maybe it's just majesty). We'll be the crowd of folks who are both having a lovely time AND packing laptops!
I'm excited to see you there!!

So.... any tips for how not to get kidnapped by criminals while getting from UCSC to the diner via bus? I've never been to the diner and I've heard positively terrifying things about Santa Cruz on Halloween, so I wanted to do a little preliminary research.
Also, what is everyone dressing up as? I can't decide between Sylvia Plath (which would go nicely with my furious typing) and Rosie the Riveter.

AS for not getting kidnapped by criminals, I think that it would be a wise idea for us to carpool folks home. I can fit three people into my car, and if my kid comes, she can fit four into hers.
I'm dressing up as a Nano ML. There's really no costume that goes with that shirt that doesn't involve either hazmat accidents or mental illness.

Carpool. Excellent!
But I think you should dress up as a hazmat accident. For the record.

If you want, we can meet up on campus and bus/hike down to the Diner. Things are kinda scary but once you get away from the Pacific strip, it calms down pretty fast. I'm going to the Midnight Movie at the Del Mar (Shaun of the Dead!) later on, so I'm only good one way.
But yus, carpool back UP to campus.

I'm probably gonna take the bus down to the diner, but definitely not back up to campus, so carpoolage would be great. I call a seat in someone's car . . . C:
----------maybe this time we can have an awkward bus adventure (complete with drunk people in costumes).

lets all go out on our lawns and yell obscenities at passersby.

Make sure the buses are not stopping early tomorrow night. The last few years downtown has been cordoned off by the cops, allowing for no vehicle access. I'll post tomorrow if I am coming and can offer rides.

I would love to meet up with someone or someones to bus/hike/carpool down. Tell me where and when and I'll be there. :)

We can meet up at the 9/10 bus stop. Most of the buses will be 16s anyway, so it's a good spot to get on. Since there will be a ton of people trying to get downtown and the buses will take forever to get there, I'd suggest hopping on a bus earlier than usual. ~9:15 would be a good time, though I can get there earlier if need be.
I am going to sleep now (finally!) but I'll be up and about by tomorrow afternoon. If you're interested in taking part in the Awkward Bus Ride, lemmie know.
Edit:
tl;dr? Here's the important info.
Meet at the 9/10 bus stop at ~9:15. PM me before 8pm if you want my number for easier coordination (and so we don't leave anyone behind!)
I'll be costume-less, but look for the girl with blonde-green hair and at least one knitting project, probably my mile-long rainbow lace scarf.

I'll be there maybe around eleven or so, and I have a friend who will showing up later. She teaches creative writing at SJ State, so she knows all about litterture and stuff.
