Wed is the first write in. I know these are done on line, but I don't understand how. I've been looking around the website for some sort of chat room or something, but I don't see anything. I probably just don't understand, since this is my first time. Could some one give me step by step instructions for how to do the write ins? Thanks!

This isn't my first NaNo, but it is the first one where I am trying to reach out and get involved with others while participating and I have no idea how the write-ins work either. So I am interested in learning the step by step and other tips and advice for them as well.

Yeah, I'll second the calls for help- I'd like to do the write-ins too, but I'm hazy on how they work.

All you need to know about write-ins:
The goal of a write-in is to help you boost your word count. On the most basic level, it kind of works like peer pressure. If everyone around you is typing speedily, then you will force yourself to do so as well.
You show up at the location, find the nano group (I will be findable by the large radioactive green/yellow ML shirt) and write. You can bring a laptop, a notebook, whatever. If you don't have any of the above, I usually bring spare paper/notebooks/pens as well.
This year I'm going for a wee bit more structure. We will have word wars (where you compete to see who can write the most in x amount of time) and/or specific word goals (which the attendees of the kick-off party wrote on index cards).
Now, with that said, each write-in is different. In the past, most of ours have devolved into random chatting. This is totally okay (unless you get shushed by other people) as it allows you to bond and blow off some steam.
The online write-ins will work similarly, except that you can chat as you write and will focus primarily on word wars (on the honor system of course).
Any other questions?

My question was more for the online write ins. Where in the website do you go to find the chatroom or whatever is being used to do this?

1) The local write-ins are still getting worked out. The one on the 8th will be at the Henrietta Public Library. When I send out the weekly email I'll list them all and once I edit the calendar, once you click on the event it will give you exact details.
2) The online write-ins will be held in a chat room hosted by another ML. Once she sets it up there will be a link in the header and I'll pop one in my signature as well.

Thank you all for the great questions/answers. I hope to participate in the online write-ins, but due to recent surgery I won't be able to be there in person. *wipes away tear.* Good luck all!
