Hey, checked out Payne's at the Gas City exit off of I-69 (Exit 59). All I can say is WOW! I knew Payne's had great food, coffee and frozen custard at reasonable prices. And I knew it had a fun vibe, late hours and a well-lit parking lot. What I didn't know was that each booth has its own outlet. A writer's dream!

Payne's is convenient for those from Anderson and Muncie who want to meet more NaNo-ites, and it's a reasonable drive for those from Wabash and Huntington. It's within commuting range for writers from Fort Wayne and northern Indy. (There's also the Gas City Starbucks, where we'll meet for a write-in or two. Stay tuned.)

We'll have a kick-off Thursday (10/29). Come at 6:30 p.m. if you want to eat or 7 p.m. if you're just getting dessert and/or a drink. Please get something, as this is a small biz that needs moolah to pay the bills. You don't need to bring a laptop this time, as we can't start writing, but it's fine if you do. (Did I tell you Payne's has free wi-fi? Might be my new favorite place!)

We'll introduce ourselves, our books, our characters, any journeys to get to NaNo and whatever else comes up. It's usually a hoot. This event is open to participants of all ages.

As for write-ins, I'd like to spread the love among a few area businesses. We'll have the weekly write-ins after meet-ups, plus weekly planned events and spontaneous uprisings as posted by anyone and everyone -- i.e. you.

For those who need to find Google/Mapquest directions, here's Payne's address: 4925 Kaybee Drive Gas City, IN 46933-6601.

Or here's my directions from I-69: Take Exit 59. Follow the signs to Cracker Barrel. Turn left down the road leading to Cracker Barrel and pass that restaurant. Payne's is just ahead on the right.

See you there.

Thanks for the invitation :) Unfortunately, according to Google Maps Payne's is an hour drive from my home in Anderson. I can't fit that into my schedule - especially during the week. I'll keep an eye on this thread though :)

I can only meet on Mondays or weekends. Let's plan some things for those nights! The mall has free wifi and a nice seating area. We might be able to get Beatnik's to keep the noise down to meet there. Where else is good? I'm excited to get started!

KateyJane, if you or anyone else wants to meet at a different time, by all means DO IT!!!!

I can't spend any more time setting up events -- I've already put in a LOT of time that I should be devoting to my story. But if you want to do it, go for it. Also, I'm trying to minimize NaNo's damage on my family, but perhaps I can pull it off once or twice on those nights.

Announce any meet-ups and write-ins here and send it to me. I'll see that it gets placed on the calendar. Even if it's last minute and too sudden for the calendar, post it in the Marion message for write-ins. You never know when someone else may find a free hour or two and can join you.

Hint to everyone else: Check the forum regularly to see who's writing on the town and when.

I guess I missed you. I was inside, typing away, wearing my eye-popping neon-yellow-green ML shirt.

Hope to see you next time.
