I was wondering if anyone besides me would be interested in possibly being in a word war against another region... I think I can get it set up pretty quickly.

I kinda missed doing this last year to get all the excitment of we are ahead or we are behind so and so. It can be a lot of fun and if we do it get that polite trash talking ready to rumble.

UPDATE- Anni is talking to her people to see if they want to go up against us

Well I know Memphis and Nashville are word waring against each other. They were trash talking in Memphis' forum earlier this week! Haha!

How does a word war work? Is it just trying to write as much as possible every day so that we'd get a higher regional word count than the folks we're up against? Otherwise, I'm envisioning trebuchet baskets filled with flaming dictionaries aimed at the next region over. :D

Haha. If we had trebuchets with flaming dictionaries and the like, I'd be all over it.

As it is, we'd have to be a bit picky, I'd think, in choosing who to word war with. Mississippi is a region unto itself because there's not a lot of interest here, at the moment, so we'd have to find another region that's close to our size. And all the closest regions are fairly large cities. Otherwise, it sure sounds like it'd be nifty.

One of the states that has an "Elsewhere" region might be a good idea. Or I was wondering if maybe Maine or one of the Plains states might be interested, as those are similarly large-but-sparsely-populated areas. (Though I think Maine does have more than one area, but might they have an Elsewhere...? Don't have time to check myself at the moment.)

You just try and write as much as possible during the entire time but flaming dictionaries sound fun also :D

There is two ways this is normally done, either it is a select team of individuals within the region or it is the entire region as a whole.

The region doesn't have to be near us... in the last few years chicago went up against Toronto and New York City okay that was 2007 they went against both. This year Chicago's only up against NYC but Chicago will win since they are the bomb. I know of three regions off the top of my head which have about the same number of people that seem to be active participates. I am going to hit up Indiana:North first and then Delaware mostly because I have a good feel for what their participation levels are at least in previous years. Indiana is my old region and Delaware is where NaNo first started for me back in '05.

Trebuchets armed with flaming dictionaries? Dude, sign me up! XD

So long as we're warring with a region in similar size to us that would be awesome.

I agree with those saying pick a region close to our size. I'd be happy for a little competition.

This would be really cool! So long as we don't have any north/south trash talk...you know how that can be, though I'd like to think everyone's mature to the point where we could either avoid that kind of thing, or use it in harmless manners. Perhaps I'm being ridiculously paranoid? :P
