It looks like there's a fair amount of interest in having offline gatherings, so let's have a discussion thread about that. :) My thoughts on the matter:

If it's going to be downtown, it should be a venue with lots and lots of free parking nearby. Indoors will probably work better than outdoors. Outside of downtown, Books-a-Million across from Oglethorpe Mall worked well enough last year. Atlanta Bread Company next to the Twelve Oaks Publix might be another option.

Whoever has the most restrictive schedule should decide day/time. I'm personally unemployed with no social obligations, so I can just show up whenever. ;)

My vote is for downtown. Possibilities would be Sentient Bean or Gallery Espresso, (since Metro is closed now). I'm sure there are other places that I've just not thought of. One of the libraries, perhaps? I know some of them have meeting rooms, and we could possibly use one. I'll call to check on that tomorrow.

I could host a smallish gathering of downtownies at my house, which is just east and south of downtown proper, (Extended Historic District).

As far as day and time, I'm pretty flexible with that, but if it's away from downtown it will need to still be while busses are running, (and be near a bus route), since that's my form of transportation.

I haven't done any write-ins in the past, but I just ordered a laptop, (which will be here sometime between the second and fifth), so I'm eager to 'road test' her.

I look forward to meeting some, or all, of you.

I'd also vote for Sentient Bean or Gallery Espresso for downtown -- there should be a decent amount of parking around the former as long as there isn't an event going on in the park and parking is free on weekends.

I think I'd prefer weekend evenings, but if another settled time is preferable to everyone else, by all means go with that. I'm not even sure I'll be able to make it to any meets just 'cause I'm a SCAD senior taking three studio classes at the moment and we're already working on final projects. As such, I'll also only been in town for about two and a half weeks in November before classes let out (and then I'm going to Houston, and then I'm going to Tokyo!).

I'm pretty flexible, so just throw stuff out here and I'll do whatever I can.

I too am a 9-5er weekdays, so nights are better, or weekends. I also have a 7 year old most weekeknds and now cub scout activities scattered. So as for meetins I don't think I would be productive or helpful to anyone in actual writing, but for a semi-social or brainstorming/plot reveiw discussion I am all for it. Also willing to pick up and drop off anyone needing a ride. I can get anywhere around town or the outskirts.

Anytime during the weekends would be awesome for me. I'm a stay at home mom but my hubby's schedule is so crazy during the week. Metered parking is free downtown on the weekends so that would be perfect! :)

Like JDSquared, I'm not sure I'd be very productive at a write-in either - I prefer writing alone. But to meet to brainstorm plots, talk about the process, cheer each other on - sounds great!

Weekends are better for me too - my schedule during the week is pretty hectic. Sunday afternoons are generally open.

Maybe someone needs to take point on this and set it up? I vote for the person who started this thread (sorry, I didn't make note of your name!).

Hmm, that would be me. Okay, if I get to be the Great Decider here :D --

Sentient Bean, 6pm Sunday evenings.

I've never been in there myself, so can't specify the best corner or whatnot, so people should bring signs or describe their clothes beforehand or something. I'll go over tomorrow (the 1st, possibly not the best first meet day since it'll cut into the first day of writing), and I'll have an Alphasmart Dana.

I don't tend to write much at write-ins either, but it'd be neat to meet people. ;)

I might be able to make it to the Bean tomorrow. I would love to get some actual writing in at the meet, but I've never been to one (where people actually showed up, lol) so I don't know how productive I'd actually be.

If I do go, I'll wear a hat with a ton of buttons on it and a sign that says "50,000 words or bust." :) Laptop is a gigantic 17" black Dell Vostro.

Insider knowledge is awesome! xD After 5pm everyday, parking is free downtown. I'm not sure how far downtown that extends, but I know for sure it's river street and bay street. And there is a Live Oaks library on bay street, but I'm not sure what their hours are. So yeah...

Sunday nights are generally good for me, as far as meet-ins go as Sundays I tend to work day shifts.

Well, after you get out of downtown, there's no longer metered parking anyway. XD So basically, metered parking on weekends and weekdays after five = free!

The bean at 6pm is just about the perfect time and place for me. I will see you tonight. As for parking, all the neters are free, and there is a dirt lot across from the bean that you can usually park in if the Forsythe lot or the street are full. I will be on a bike, and since i wont have a laptop i will wear my panama hat.

Yay! The write-in at the Sentient Bean was a minor success! :) Three whole people were here and we got to chat some and write some. The atmosphere was nice; the Bean was quiet, and I'd say it was fairly productive all around.

Hoping to meet again same time and place next week, so if anyone else is interested, they should try and stop by!

I have a word count!!!! Not quite the daily recommended serving, but I am comfortable. Wrote it at the Sentinent Bean (which was a great success I feel) and transcribed at home. I might keep writing but I am also feeling under the weather, so i wanted to at least get what I had into the computer.

Join us next Sunday. If we get enough people we can have a writing section and a talking section, wander between the two.

Yay people showing up and also actually finding each other. :)

I was sitting at a different table when I noticed the hat with the pins... >.>

Meanwhile: since I explained it there, lemme explain it here too .. the reason I went with Sentient Bean and 6pm was because the place is only two blocks from a yoga center where I try to get a class once a week. All that sitting around typing is not so good for the body, dontchaknow. And since I'm unemployed and trying to conserve funds, I try to do all my out-of-the-house errands on the same day (and then not drive the rest of the week). On Sundays, there's a beginner-friendly $6 class from 4:30 to 5:30pm, and then an intermediate-level $9 class at 7:15pm. Next week I'll bring their November schedule for people who are interested in doing that before or after the meet (or just go to their website). The instructor for the 4:30 class also frequents the Sentient Bean (and is who I was sitting with before discovering everyone else), and she's heard of nanowrimo, so maybe we can talk her into writing a novel too. ;)

That's my evil plan, anyway. Probably won't happen but it'd be neat if it did.

Anyhoo, hope to see more people next week. :)

Aiii! I missed the write-in! I've been relying on the email notifications that there are new posts to this thread, and I got the one announcing the date/time/place for the write-in JUST NOW, (5:00PM Monday). A day late and a dollar short, but no huge tragedy, because I can catch you next week..

I'm glad the write-in was a success and I see that many of us ARE writing! Woo hoo, Savannah NaNoers!

My partner and I have also been saying that we want to get into yoga, so the Sunday afternoon class at the yoga center sounds PERFECT! I'll certainly look into it.

I'll be at the Bean, (& maybe the yoga class too!), next Sunday! Keep writing!

Heya! I know I've not posted 'round here before, but, er, yeah.
Might go to the write-in this coming Sunday. Will be the shorty in a hot pink "I am awesomer than most" shirt and a pink Dell laptop. Er... AKA, I'll be the kid dragging around her mother. <_<

I was out of town this past Sunday (Halloween insanity, dontcha know...) but I should be around this coming Sunday. I will pop by the Bean after dropping my mom off at the airport.

Old, old, old IBM Thinkpad with no battery to speak of, so I'll need to find a seat near an outlet!!!

: )

Don't know what I'll be wearing yet. That depends on what's clean by then.

I might be able to make a later one... it's tech week for Anne Frank! If you get a chance, btw, come see it. We're opening Thursday and it's being put on by the Little Theatre of Savannah at the Freight Station, down Louisville Rd. (just past the train museum).

Have fun writing this week SAV!!

I know it's a little late to jump on the band wagon but I would love to do a meet-up. I work downtown and I live in Pooler, so I am pretty flexible with meeting up. I am at Barnes and Nobles most days I can get their.

I don't know where the Bean is at, not familiar with it at all.

They have a mapquest map in it somewhere. But basically it's just at the south end of Forsyth Park, one storefront west of Bull.

I had to look it up too. First time I was in there was last Sunday, actually. And I got a bit lost trying to find it. ;) But it seems like a good compromise location between the downtowners who never want to leave downtown, and the southsiders like me who never want to go downtown.

Alright! Thank you for the info, I should be able to find it between my navigation system and the website.

I should most certainly be able to make it this weekend. I have a silver/white Dell laptop and it's a good size one too, about 17 inch screen.

If anyone wants to try and do a meet-in during the week I am pretty open to that as well.
