I know everyone is really excited about the start of nanowrimo (I know I can't concentrate on much of anything else), but what is going to keep you motivated through the entire month? I put picture on my desktop that tells me not to leave until I reach at least 1'000 words (at which point I take a break), and a current word count balloon.

By the way... NANOWRIMO IS TWO DAYS FROM NOW!!!

Heh. I'm writing an adventure story that I'm posting online as I go. If I crap out, I'll have all my friends and family coming after me demanding I finish. This is a rather daunting proposition, enough to keep anyone on the stick. Also, I wanna finish again, dagnabit!

Last year, I used some negative reinforcement - can't remember what it was but something like if I didn't finish I had to clean out my closet. I think I will be more positive this year, if I finish treat myself to a pedicure or buy myself something. I have been more vocal about it this year, telling friends and family. Last year, I kept it to myself. I think blabbing actually works because I know they will ask where I am and have to keep motivated.

It's my first time doing this, so I've set myself up plenty of motivating factors.
1. I've told just about everyone I know that I'm doing this, and they all expect to be able to read my novel by the end of December (I told them I'll need a month after NaNo for editing).
2. Verizon is coming out with the Droid, and my 2 years is up Nov. 23rd, at which point I'll get the phone upgrade discount. I have made a deal with myself wherein I'll only be allowed to trade up if I finish NaNo successfully.
3. I've been creating the character bios and plot points for the story in my head for a week or so now, and if I don't get it all out it's going to drive me crazy, since I'm having trouble thinking of anything else.

So, my pride, my sanity, and my gadget fetish are all on the line. That oughta do. :-D
