We're hogging the mid-Wales thread again (who knew there were so many NaNoers in little old Aber?) so it seemed logical to have our own space to plan a meet-up, that was for students at the uni and local residents.
So, who's interested in a meet-up/write-in in Aber? Any suggestions for novelling friendly venues?

I'll be in Aberystwyth tomorrow, but I'll be busy all day and won't be back, so to be honest I'm not sure why I'm replying :P

Hi Lady Penelope,
Good on ya!
When choosing a venue, please make sure it's:
Open at the right time!
Happy for us to take over part of their space and not buy many drinks
Open to under-18s
Wheelchair accessible
Reachable by public transport
So - pubs (that allow under-18s), coffee shops - whatever.
I've got some stickers from the nice people at NaNo HQ - if you PM me your snail-mail, I'll post you a few. If we're lucky, the post office will deiver them in time for the wrap-up party. If you need any further help, just ask and I'll do what I can from this distance!

I've been studying in Costa and it seems to be pretty chill on weekday afternoons. Maybe we could have a write-in there during off-hours?
Other than that, I can't wait to meet other NaNoers!

Costa's good but it's expensive in there; also they get really busy alot of the time. There's Fresh ground, although it's more of a restaurant now then a coffee shop (we had write-ins there last year though, organised by myself)
----------There's another coffee/cafe place opened across the road from there, we might want to try them?
Hmm, other then that if there are alot of people on campus we could try the Arts centre?

The Arts Centre makes sense, or that little coffee place just down the road from Downies? I forget the name. Either way, I'm happy to show up ^_^

Costa can quite full at weekends, but this place opposite Fresh Ground might be worth trying. Has anyone tried it out yet?
----------The Arts Centre would suit me, I have giant awkward gaps in my timetable that leave me stranded on campus anyway, so some NaNo time then would be good. It's not too expensive in there either, and they're prepared to have you sitting about working and not buying much. How do the non-students feel about this?

I'd be happy to pop down on the train on a Saturday at some point. My other time is being monopolosed by a horrible company that I shall neglect to mention -_-

Depending on the time I could probably make it to a write-in at the arts centre quite easily, as I spend most of my time on campus these days (and usually with my laptop with me). Coffee shops are doable too though if it's too inconvenient for non-students.

The Arts Centre is a good idea! And while we're talking about campus locations, I'll also suggest TaMed Da (when it's not lunch hour). It also opens quite late on weekends, and is nearly empty.
The other cafes mentioned in town sound good too.

How's TaMedDa for power points? My laptop battery lasts about an hour before giving up, and I'm sure I'm not the only one with this trouble!

I second Lady P. on the powerpoints issue, although we could try it and migrate over to the Arts centre if there are no powerpoints and we run out of juice?

If people end up migrating to the arts centre, doesn't it make sense to just meet there in the first place? Besides, lovely views, cheap tea and a sofa or two. I'm up here most days (just left the arts centre, in the library atm) and often have my laptop with me, so I'm basically free and easy.

How about Friday at the Arts Centre at say 3pm? We can get a few hours writing done then without taking out a whole day, which leaves people time for uni work.
----------Let me know if the time's a problem, if its difficult for a lot of people we can arrange something else.
If we can get a group together, I'll post up some sort of way of spotting me so people know where we're gathered.

I have no idea about power points, but that settles it - the Arts Centre's perfect then!
I have a lecture at 3 on Friday. I'll come by at 4 if you guys are still there. :)

----------If only my NaNo hoody was here, then it'd be nice and obvious who the write-in people were. I'll wear my pink jeans though, that should be easy to spot...

I don't finish work till 4.30, but could probably get there after that. I'll look out for a host of laptops in the Arts Centre cafe, then (and if you've gone I shall just potter round the craft fair being tempted by the nice pottery)

I'll be there, I have the vague idea that I might have a lecture then, but it matters not. 3 in the Arts centre. I'll be the guy with the skin tight jeans, winklepickers and rugged beardy face.

Whereabouts in the Arts Centre are we planning on meeting, the theatre bar area at the top or the little cafe bit on the floor below?
I'll be the guy with the glasses and ponytail wandering around with a bemused expression staring at peoples jeans.

I'm trying to decide if I know anybody already from their descriptions, but I don't think I do so far...
Shall we try the upstairs bit first? There's nice arrangements of comfy sofas up there for several people to sit round, and it's usually a bit quieter (plus we can drown our sorrows if we hit plot problems). If we can't get seats we want up there, we can migrate downstairs.
Now I'm just hoping I can judge who's a NaNoer so I don't make a fool of myself asking randomers "excuse me, are you here for the write-in?"

Hi there, oh I wish I still lived in Aber, I'd love a meet-up Unfortunately, although a native of Wales I'm currently exiled in England. I used to live just outside Aberystwyth and wish everyday i could comeback. I'll be thinking of you!

I have no Nano hoodie to mark me out, but really, I'll have winkle pickers on, it's easy to spot. I also find the idea entertaining that you'll spend the afternoon looking intently at people shoes.
