Hi, everyone,

This is my first year participating in NaNoWriMo and I am very excited. However, I was wondering if anyone could offer advice about how to keep my dog entertained while I write about 1,667 words a day. She's still a puppy and energetic and doesn't like being outside by herself and always wants to play. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Chris

Well, if it is my dog I would say pop in an Italian movie and let her watch it. My Maggie loves Italian movies :)

But since this isn't my dog. I would say sit somewhere she can sit by you so you can pet her a lot and every hour spend at least 10 minutes with her. Give her lots of praise, talk to her and then when you hit your goal for the day, just give her all the attention that you can.

And give her treats. Lots of treats.

I hope that helps.

Bless their furry hearts, dogs are pack animals, so wherever you are is where they want to be. In the case of my last dog, in puppyhood, he wanted to be where you were about to put your foot next. Which explains why she doesn't want to be where you Aren't. You're her pack alpha.

It might help to run her around for several minutes before you start your siege on your wordcount. If you tire her out before you want to sit quietly, you have a better chance of her letting you alone for long enough to get your quota for the day.

It's been a while since I've tried this, but I suspect it will work for the most part.
