I apologise if this is a really obvious question but I am confuzzled!

I understand we can manually type in our word count into the Novel settings section of our profile. However, it seems to be 'locked' at the moment. Will this 'unlock' on November 1st?

I have been playing about with the site this afternoon and was going to test the various features, including the word count. Although there is a strong chance that my brain has turned to mush and cannot compute.

Yes, it opens on November 1st. As Nano doesn't start till then, you can't put anything in yet. It's also good to bare in mind that for the first few days, the forum is often very slow because of the huge number of people trying to do things, like update their word counts.

Second attempt at Nano, lets see if I can get it to work this time!

The word count feature doesn't get unlocked until the last week in November, I think. Until then you have to estimate using the word count feature in your word processor software (Word, Write or whatever)

You cant validate until the last week but you can put in your own word count at any time after the 1st. As has been said though keep in mind the site is normally very, very busy the first few days so if you dont need to put it up i'd advise you avoid until things have calmed down a bit.

Thanks to everyone who answered. No probs, I'm quite happy to keep track with MS Word for the first week :) I'm working down in Falkirk next week and have a rather long commute in front of me. Going on the internet will be coming after eating, washing, sleeping and writing!
