I need to tell Jack how many people we're expecting (and I need to know how many tables to set up). I got a headcount of about 12 from the kickoff last night. If you *didn't* tell me you were coming already, could you let me know here? Rails, I saw your post this morn, so I've already added you. If anybody else has mentioned it in another thread, could you repeat yourself here?

Also, yell if you have a power strip you can and will bring with you (no matter what time you're coming, because some early-arrivals might need to leave and take theirs with them.)

Speaking of early, TURN YOUR CLOCKS BACK an hour Sunday morning so you don't inadvertently show up an hour early!

Can't wait to start writing. Still have no idea what I'm writing ABOUT, though... *chews nails*

er, start time is 10:30 a.m. GrassRoots is on Second Street (a block up -- toward the two bridges -- from the Post office), near New Morning Bakery. We'll write until 4.

This isn't a socializing time... we're writing! (I'll be kinda strict about that). But to make up for it I'll have candy! And we'll take breaks periodically. And I'll try to have some handout goodies for those who couldn't make it to the kickoff.

I too shall arrive around noon, bring Reasy in tow. ; ) *patpat*

I think I can liberate borrow a power strip from work. We shall see.. : ) Anyway, we may arrive sooner if I get back from Portland sooner!

ALSO! I'm glad you will be an enforcer, because as I'm sure you noticed last night, I (and Reasy) am a chatterbox and while I can sit and write like the dickens when others are saying amusing things it's difficult for me to you know, shut up. So yay! : )

I'll be coming! I'll probably show up around 12:30-1:00, and I'll see about bringing a power strip.

Well I got here a bit early and the hours sheet says they don't open until noon... is there a special way I'm supposed to go? Call me, my wireless is being a bit slow. 541-619-6790

Ooops! Saw this now, after I'd been to Grass Roots.

I found GR more distracting than NMB (though, granted, I was more tired). It was noisier at the restaurant, but it was noisy enough that it was mostly like white noise. Guess the only thing to do is bring the headphones and/or earplugs!

Phew! After writing for the last few hours, I don't think I can write in a noisy public place. I was getting bothered by the sound of a ringing telephone and the whistling teapot! I might not even try to make it to any group public writes. Not sure I can handle the noise at all.

OregonRusalka, I know what you mean. The write-ins at the OSU library might be better. Or, like at GR, any sound might be distracting. If you can listen to music through headphones or wear earplugs, you might be able to manage. I'm very sensitive to noise (and movement and, well, everything) myself, so I'm going to try one or both of these options.

I enjoyed the small amount of noise enough to take off my mega headphones. Dead silence tends to be a distraction because I want to fill it with something. So I guess that works.
Three and a half hours yielded a fantastic start on my set of poems (writing and revising 30 poems in 30 days).

I had exactly the same thoughts re: white noise vs. single conversations with the cashier.
