I live in Delta Township (right behind the Meijer that's across from the Lansing Mall) and I was just wondering if there was any other NaNos nearby. Two reasons: 1) I'd totally be interested in having a mini-group that gathers within walking distance somewhere, because I don't drive. xD 2) I'd love to go to the Kick-Off Party and write-ins at Gone Wired, but because of the previously mentioned non-driving, I don't really have a way of getting there, short of dragging my boyfriend and poor kids out to drop my ass off. And pick it up. So if somebody wants to do the carpool thing, I'd be awesomely appreciative. Awesomely, people.

Should I introduce myself? Probably. Er, my name's Brianna, aka The Tanya (long, boring story... if you feel the need to experience the sensation of a red-hot icepick being driven into your skull, please feel free to ask) and I'm a 23 year old stay-at-home mom to two little monsters -- I mean munchkins. It will be three little munchkins come March. Because yes, I am insane. I'm also apparently hated by some unknown deity because they are all girls. I think I massacred puppies in a past life or something... it must have been bad, really bad. 'Cause I didn't even get one boy. *sigh*

This is my first shot at NaNoWriMo, and I'm only here because my bestest friend (yes, I said bestest... and I'm writing a novel, god help us all) threatened... er, nagged... er, persuaded me to join. That's a good word, persuaded. I think I'll stick with that one. I love you, Heather! xD Hopefully it will be fun and productive.

Hi The Tanya,

I live right next to Waverly High school (behind the watertower) and I'd be happy to drive you. You can check out my info on the roll call. I am normal and my car is nominally clean. I am also a first time participant.

Hope to see you at the kickoff!

I live about 15 minutes from all the excitement that is Saginaw Hwy and I work @ one of the million and one restaurants there, so 5 days a week, I'm right down the street from you. I'd definitely be interested in organizing something closer to home -- maybe @ Barnes & Noble or something?

I live in Delta Township too! Great isn't it? You can walk to any place to want to go. I should know, I hit a deer last week and my insurance agency is taking their own sweet time to look over my car. Anyway, I live right next to where the old Delta Library used to be.

A mini-group might be fun. But Gone Wired works well for me too...when I have a car. :p

Yep, that's her. The evil wench who conned me into this and then is conveniently unavailable for write-ins I can attend. I think it's part of her dastardly plot.

But back on topic... I have a ride to the Gone Wired meet-ups (thank you, Adrienne!) but would totally love a local group too. Does Barnes & Noble have wi-fi? I know the Beaners (I refuse to call it Biggby, I'm sorry) on Elmwood has it. The new library has it I believe. Derrrr... brain freeze. I can't remember any other places close by that have wi-fi. And online dictionaries? Are my secret love affair. Because spell check on MS Office sucks monkey balls.

I am in Delta Township too...near the drive-through Beaners. I'm up for some close-to-home write-ins dependent on my work schedule. Let me know!

Barnes and Noble has wifi, but I don't know if it's free. Chipole and Panera in the mall I think have wifi, but I'd have to check. And then the mall is only open until around 9.

I was thinking a late morning/early afternoon thing, anyway, so in the mall would be fine. Plus, most everyone in the Lansing area knows where the mall is. Certainly anyone who lives close by would.

Does anyone have a preference? Free wi-fi and in walking distance are really my only "must haves" for a location. The mall is certainly walking distance even for my fat pregnant ass, ROFL.

Barnes & Noble has free wi-fi and it's pretty good and fast. So does the Library, although you never know when load kiddies are bound to show up. Also, there are some GREAT regular customers at B&N, I should know, I used to work there. So, B&N works great. Mind you, there are no outlets, so you'd better have a good laptop battery.

Let's make a time and date to meet before the month is over. :)

Panera's usually have outlets. I won't be able to make it if it's during the day. But I hope you guys enjoy your write in :)

Is Panera's in the mall? I'm still relatively new to Lansing, so I'm easily confused!

I'm sorry, piggy flu has been running rampant in my house, so I haven't really given this much thought. Now that I'm down to just a hacking cough, and I'm pretty sure I'm not contagious anymore, I'd love to get started on this.

I'd definitely need an outlet (guess I'm adding to the list of "must haves" aren't I?) since my laptop dies a horrible death after about an hour and a half. O! The Wonders Of Vista. *gag* If only I could afford a MacBook. Anyway, Panera is fine by me if they've got a place for me to plug in, and I think they have free refills on coffee, too. Mmm, coffee. Are weekdays or weekends better for people? Literally, as long as it ends by 2pm, any day is good for me. So it's really up to you guys. We could even meet a couple times a week if you guys want, so if one day isn't good for people, the other might be.

Btw, Panera is in the Lansing Mall. It has an outside door, and is on the Saginaw side of the mall. I don't remember exactly where it's situated, but I think it's toward the middle.

Thanks for clearing that up! I'm sorry about the flu! I've been scarfing down the Airborne in an attempt to avoid getting sick!

I, too, would need an outlet. I would love to upgrade to Windows 7...maybe for Christmas. Earlier in the day works for me, since I work nights most days. Maybe right smack in the middle of the week, like Wednesday, or something? I'm really easy, though, so whatever works for everyone else :)

Noon on Wednesdays okay, then? I can plan to be at Panera tomorrow at noon, and if anyone shows up, great. If not, I'll just enjoy my quiet time away from children. LOL I'll check this thread later tonight to make sure no one needs the time earlier. I can't really do much later than noon, since I'd like to have a couple hours to hang out and write, and I have to be home around 2pm. But I can do earlier if someone needs me to.

Wednesdays @ noon work for me -- although I'm not sure I'll be able to make it tomorrow, sadly! My house is an utter disaster and I need to channel my inner Monica Gellar and get it back into shape before I head to work. Next week, though!

Okay, well, I'm here... but don't know if anyone else is. There are no signs anywhere, and everyone with laptops that I asked wasn't doing NaNo. >.> I feel weird going up to complete strangers and asking, "Hey, you're not doing NaNoWriMo, are ya?" Blank looks. And I don't have a sign either (printer - ink = no NaNo sign... *sigh*), so either people ask me, or I guess I'm on my own this week.

Oh, you poor thing! I'll almost certainly be there next week. Should I bring a sign or wear a bright yellow shirt, or something, so there's no approaching strangers?

I'm beginning to think a designated color shirt would be a good idea. Like prison orange or something, LOL. It doesn't help that this place is PACKED, and finding anyone is a PITA. I've since asked two people hanging around looking over the crowd if they are here for NaNo. Again with the blank looks. I'm beginning to feel like a freak, hahaha.

If you could bring a sign next time (possibly with neon? flashing letters? big arrows pointing to it?) that would be awesome. I'm not sure if we'll have gotten more ink by next week, so... yeah. I think I'm going home now. My butt is starting to hurt.

It's too late for this month, but there is a monthly group called the Writers' Rendezvous that meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 7:00 at the Barnes and Noble in the Lansing Mall. It's open for anyone to drop by. I expect that at December's meeting, we'll be workshopping some material from NaNoWriMo!

I think I may try to attend that, especially in December as I may (hopefully not, but may) have failed NaNo and still want to finish my novel. Thanks for letting us know!
