Hi all,
This thread is primarily for me to post info about the Word War to all competitors, so it's being cross-posted to all the regions taking part. If you want to make any comments, however, feel free. :-)
ETA: Here's the link to the leader board: http://www.annelyle.com/projects/scoreboard.html
The regions currently signed up are:
Birmingham
Brighton
Cambridge
Darlington
Devon & Cornwall
Essex
Gloustershire
Lancaster & Cumbria
Leicester
London
Manchester
Newcastle
Norfolk
Oxfordshire
York & Leeds
Dublin
Edinburgh
Glasgow
Eng: Elsewhere
Scot: Elsewhere
Wales
Only one region has given a definite No, so we may get a lot more before the 10th. Here's hoping. :-)
All those regions that are signed up should have a Banter thread, so feel free to go over and give them hell (but in a nice way). :-)
There may be a slight delay in the War starting up, as we're reliant on the site API working and the site is notoriously slow during the first few days of Nano, plus we're running it in a slightly different way this year and I'm not sure what problems will crop up because of that. In addition, one of Anne's cats is very seriously ill at the moment, so she may not have time to work on it. I'll be in touch with her and will let all the relevant MLs know if we have to make other arrangements at all. I'll also be in touch when I know the URL of the leader board. :-)

Heya London!
Toronto ML, here! Since you're going up against us this year, too, and will inevitably be invaded by well-intentioned but overly exuberant Toronto Word War participants, I thought I'd drop in and invite you to visit our boards (http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/102) and our completely awesome Toronto NaNo word war stats page and chat room - http://www.torontonano.org/WordWar/
We're a noisy bunch but we don't bite - promise!
Ready for a word war to go down in the history books?

Um, I think she meant to post this in the London forum but it also landed in the Dublin forum.
Anyway, I would like to extend the invite to you Dubliners as well to visit me and my fellow colleagues over in the Toronto forum.
Maybe we can both bring down London at the same time??? After all you are also competing against London via the Britain/Ireland Word War.

Aw, Canadian spammers are so polite, :-)
Back to UK word war stuff:
I'm having problems getting hold of Anne at the moment. She's having non-Nano issues right now which is taking up a lot of her time and energy so it's not her fault at all, however, it may mean that I have to make alternative arrangements with regard to publishing the current state of the word war. This may mean the MLs having to take a couple of minutes to provide me with some information so I can sort it out myself.
Hopefully it won't be necessary, but if it is, I'll get in touch tomorrow evening.
Many apologies for the delay.

Okay,
The leader board is up and can be found here: http://www.annelyle.com/projects/scoreboard.html
No surprises to see who's in the lead. :-)
I'm going to investigate why the Devon & Cornwall team currently have a 0 word count, I doubt if that's actually the case so I'll try and figure it out later today. I'll also double check the figures for the other teams and make sure that all the data's being pulled from the server properly.
If your region doesn't appear yet, don't worry about it, it's mostly likely because your ML hasn't found the time to add the participants or hasn't managed to make contact with Anne yet.
MLs: if you've e-mailed Anne and haven't heard back from her yet, please let me know, or if you're having problems adding your participants let me know too. If push comes to shove I can add then for you. :-)

Hi Lottie,

I only added our participants this morning (I only just got the emails) so I think our word counts haven't been lifted from the site yet, (does it happen at the end of each day or some such?) that's probably why! We certainly do have more than 0 *g* I was almost tempted to sit and work out where we placed for yesterday, but decided to be patient and let it update itself in due course. (I needed the time to get writing anyway!!) :D
Cheers

I only added our participants this morning
That would probably explain it, yes. :-)
We'll wait and see what happens tomorrow morning and see if anything further needs to be done, but it sounds like that was the problem.
I've just worked it out and you're actually just ahead of Newcastle, so third place overall. :-)
Happy writing.

Breathe ... breathe ... that's better, you've turned a much healthier colour again. :-)
This will be because you haven't contacted Anne and been given access to the database, so none of your people are on there yet. I sent you her address in a PM the other day. If you can't find it, PM me and I'll send it again. She'll then let you have access to the database and you can get started. :-)

Essex has an 0 wordcount as well, and that's definitely not right! :( I hope it can be sorted out so that we can see where we really rank. xD
Oh, and for that matter, so does England Elsewhere, and they're near the top of the Word Count Scoreboard for the whole world! (Well done England Elsewhere =D) Mind you, that's in total wordcount as opposed to average... but still!

That's because the Essex and England Elsewhere MLs have only just uploaded the participant names to the database. The word counts only update once a day, so it won't pull the numbers for those participants until tomorrow morning. Everything should update properly then. :-)
Hope this helps,

Hey! I have words. I know other people who have words too. And yet, according to Ms Lyle, Norfolk has no words. None. Zip. Zilch. Nada.
I think something fishy is going on...
Oxford, are you cheating?
