I'm very much a home-based writer, but once in a while I find it useful to get out there and do some writing in a public place.

I've been struggling to find some good locations in Dublin to get a sit-down-and-write session in, especially since I can only really write in the evenings. We haven't really got the cafe thing here (that I've noticed anyway), the nearest thing is to find a quiet and comfy pub - but that's something of a rarity.

So, I'd like to throw it open to all - where are your recommended writing sites, not even necessarily for a write-in (although it's a possible consequence if we can find a good spot)?

I'm thinking of giving Mother Reilly's in Rathmines a go because it's just around the corner from me and has a relaxing atmosphere.

We had a great meet-up this afternoon in the Library Bar of the Central Hotel in Exchequer Street this afternoon and are discussing having a write-in after next Saturday's meet-up in the Library Bar. There is wi-fi and we have provisional permission to have a write-in.

I have also been talking to a book shop that has a cafe and am hoping to hear back from the cafe manager about permission to have a week-day (probably Thursday) evening write-in between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. When I know more, I'll post about it, though probably in the 'Write in' thread.

Thanks to everyone who came along this afternoon - it was lovely to meet you. Good luck with your start-ups tonight or tomorrow!

The Irish Film Centre is great. They have a lovely bar with sockets for plugging in the laptops. There's free wi-fi, great food and they don't mind if you sit there for hours.

What sort of hours are they open? It sounds like it might be another good place for an evening write-in.

I'll be in Costa Coffee on Dawson Street for the rest of the week. Work experience in the Dáil and free costa wifi means I'm there!

Food's not badly priced, I think it's about a fiver for a sandwich and coffee. Better than the starbucks across the street!
