1147! And another half hour to write!

1778! I'm calling it quits and going to bed; I still have the write in tomorrow, er, later today, in any case.

1,104. Not bad considering I had writer's block during the first hour and couldn't even begin. I hate it when that happens. Starting the story always seems to be the hardest part for me.

Oh well, over that hump.

We have, as a region, written more than 140,000 words.
Which is only, oh, about one hundred thousand more words than I thought we'd writ.

*is stunned and amazed*

You. All. ROCK.

For those of you following the word wars and chomping at the bit because the widgets aren't working yet, that puts us not only ahead of Perth by nearly a novel, it puts us ahead of the entire state of Nevada. AND Eugene.

(And apologies if this turns into a duplicate; my sleeve hit something on the keyboard earlier.)

Remember -- no matter how many or how few words bleed from your fingertips, by Nov. 30 you'll have written more of a a novel than most people write in a lifetime. Keep writing! Because darn it, it's fun!

Just when I think I'm passing time, typing out random words, a scene suddenly forms and my word count surges. I think I might even make 10,000 in the first week! Unheard of for me!

Wow, that's awesome! I just have to say that I for one have noticed how much better I do when I go to the write-ins. Therefore, this year I have decided to throw caution to the wind and go to every write-in there is when I'm not working. Write on!

HEE!

Right now we have a higher word count than the entire COUNTRY of Italy. Or Malaysia. (Or China! Eep!)
A higher word count than Santa Cruz.
More written words than Ithaca, New York (I don't expect that one to last, but...geez.)

WOW. Y'all are rocking and rolling. Write on!

Wow, you all are putting me to shame. My goal for the end of today is to have 3,000 total words, which would put me at yesterday's mark of where I should be.

Any ideas on how to write a lot, but keep good voice and bounce to the story? I'm finding a lot of what I write to be falling very flat, which I think is making me not as motivated to write

10026. I had 8300 when I left the write-in, and I thought I was so close to 10k, why not go for it?

6600 or so. I didn't plan on writing 3000 words today, but I was having fun. :D

Also I wrote a really funny scene about how my protagonist needed to pee. That is...not usually the sort of thing I do, but it was the first thing I thought of, so I ran with it.

Hm. Well, normally I'd say don't worry about it sounding flat -- voice is a develop-through-experience thing. As you write this month you'll probably FIND your characters' voices. That's part of what a first draft is for.

But, if it's a motivational issue, I'd try to imagine yourself behind the eyes of the character who's point of view you're in. Literally like a movie camera, and write what she/he sees and does and how s/he might react to things. Try to use all five senses, a minimum of one per page; that helps make your world more real. ["The red coat" (color-sight) "Something's burning -- maybe toast?" (scent) The sweater prickled and made her itch; it had been knit of some poorly spun rough wool (touch).] Heck, boost that word count and use all five. *grin*

It kind of depends on what you mean by falling flat, I guess. What might be happening is that you're using too much narrative description and not enough dialogue, or the other way around (if you can, aim for 50/50 -- but write what works best for you). Sometimes people write dialogue that repeats what's happening in the narrative instead of moving the story forward, and that slows the pace -- or doesn't ground the characters in their setting, so they seem to be floating in the ether. Hand 'em a cuppa coffee and made them drink it. *LOL*

Those are some ideas to experiment with, anyway.

Just don't delete! Keep that word count flowing!

I'm at 10910. Last night after Judo club i Got home ready to get to 9999 words. then i fell asleep at 9:30. then i woke up at 10:30, complained to my wife that i hadn't even gotten any sleep just then, and that i needed to finish the last 600 words and also take a shower because i smelled bad. Then i promptly fell back asleep, having done none of the above. :o

Edit: i have showered between last night and now, i got plenty of sleep, and I'm now almost to my word goal for the day, which is 13332. (i'm at 12747) I might actually get ahead of the game for the first time in my NaNo History!

Wrote 2234 words today, grand total of 13,601. I feel like I could have written more, but I'm still over the daily and total goal so it's not bad. I'm concerned I may get caught up in other things and get behind so getting ahead while I can is the plan.

Good job everyone.

First off, Shadowbox...that's insane :o 23k is ridiculous.
I was all impressed with my 16834...
But i'm still happy that i've met my goal+150ish words for today, so anything more is bonus!
Now, i must cease writing for a while and pay attention to my wife :)
