So is everybody writing!? I'm a little behind in the process, just got home from a Halloween party, sipping some hot apple cider and wishing everyone a very happy NaNoWriMo start! I'm going to do up a mindmap thing, so that I can get some thoughts onto paper, and then once I hit that "aha!" moment, I'll start NaNo'in'!

I'm writing after an hour of procrastinating - but the Ghosthunters marathon was running, and I couldn't escape! I'm a little down, because we only got one group of trick-or-treaters. I guess I'll have to console myself by eating some of this here candy. ^_^ I'm chomping on my pen like a bit and pondering braving two nearly-flat tires for a pack of cigarettes. I just pulled up OpenOffice Writer and started typing...

Eat some candy! Eat some more! :) You'll feel motivated in no time!

Haha, this is one sad Halloween for me, if indeed I don't have any candy... Am here, drinking a Coors Light, Microsoft Word up on the splitscreen (this site on the other) and am at 421 words and counting..

Cigs are a nasty habit, but that's just me, I know a lot of writers get the poetic/creative vibe from it :P

We're supposed to get to 1,667 on the first shot? Dear dear me....

Aw.....! maybe you can score some discount candy tomorrow at the store. *Wrinkles her nose the light beer...* I have a really bad oral fixation issue, and sometimes when I'm stressed out, I go out and buy a pack of cigs. I know it's icky, but...

I've got AIM up, and people are distracting me, but I still somehow managed to get 1352 words in already. I'm thinking about frying up a steak, though, because I'm starving...! What are you up to now?

I was going to finish my outline yesterday, but hadn't gotten a chance. Hubby and I went to Lowes yesterday afternoon for a door bell (because ya, the previous owners of our house left the chime part- but no button to push), then did some grocery shopping. We ended up watching TV while waiting for trick-or-treaters. So this morning I'm going to work on my outline just a bit more and do some writing. Then more outlining.

Went to bed around 3am, just woke up around 10am, I have a lunch date with an old friend at noon, my boyfriend has work at 11, so I'm just munching on some cereal, Grape-Nuts with honey and milk... ooh so good :D and thinking about where I want to go next with my book... I'm putting it on my flash drive so that I can move it from one computer to the other.. I'm hoping that's a smart idea :P The coffee's ready on the pot, evidently, since my boyfriend is sipping a mug! I'm hoping I can get a couple hundred more words at least down before I go off to lunch.... sushi! I really can't afford it, but hell, my friend's in town, haven't seen her in 9 months, so that'll be good.. and it's only 12 bucks for 3 rolls.. then I gotta come back here before 3pm, when Brad (my boyfriend) gets home, cuz his little brother has a band concert, his last senior year one, in Syracuse later tonight, so after he gets out, we'll head over there. I might be able to get some writing done on my netbook while we're there, since it only takes about hour and a half to get over there, and the concert isn't til like later, 8 or 9 or something I think. Brad just headed out to work, and I just made myself some coffee... you really can't beat cream and sugar in coffee... if you're without one or the other, it's livable, but when you have both in stock, oooo, so good. :D

So, I probably shouldn't be eating too much more before noon, I want to be hungry for the sushi! :D I'm probably rambling, but it seems like that's generally welcomed here :P I'm trying to decide whether to get my book geared up and write for a while, or watch "Monster-In-Law" the new netflix movie I got... was going to watch it yesterday, but ended up trying to beat this damn game that I was trying to beat before I went to the halloween party last night.... I didn't succeed just yet... and I have some editing work to do that's for a friend... maybe I'll do that on the way to Syracuse..

Where to go with my book......... I know the plot and story, and where (roughly!) I want it to go, but how much time do I elapse in it? How much time do I devote to the main characters' relationship development before the plotline takes off? At the same time I don't want to bore my readers.. haha, this is the kind of introspective thinking that should really be saved for the editing/rewriting period, right? :P

It's only a first draft, so writing some of the 'extra in between' parts can't hurt, especially if it helps to get a feel for the story and characters. You can always edit out what doesn't work after you finish the draft. And heck, you can sneak some of the plot in there to if it helps get things moving and shows the character relationship develop.

Good luck.

(Some people might consider it padding, but I like to write a little extra in a draft, especially first starting out, to get into the flow of the story and learn more about my characters)

Off to the races...

After staying up far too late dressed as Dexter Morgan, I am doing well so far this morning--but procrastination has now hit. I was supposed to be away on a trip all day yet it was cancelled due to illness. More time to write!

Here's to at least 1,700 words today, everyone.

I should be writing now, but procrastination is killing me. I will try and write a few hundred words today, just to get something out of me, but I don't know for sure yet. Thanks to daylights savings we get an extra hour to write!! or procrastinate. :)

Happy First Day of NaNo, fellow Rochesterians! :)

Sort Of. I've changed my title, and I've been working out a few scenes in my head, but haven't put anything on paper, or computer yet. My dogs have been very active and wanting me to play with them. Now they're napping, so I can get started...or get the wash folded before my brother gets home.

I can't believe it's November already! I don't remember how I started last November, but today I am a little out of it, I need to get my typing fingers back and get rid the the black nail polish from last night. I can't be a witch and write at the same time!

Good Luck noveling everybody!

Good afternoon folks! Well, apparently my boyfriend was offered more hours at work, so we're not going to go to the concert in Syracuse, so I got back here at around 2ish, and messed around on Bejeweled for a bit, then thought about starting my writing and realized that I was still very tired... so I took a nap. So, now it's 5:45 and I only woke up 5 mins ago.... I just poured myself some stale coffee from this morning, it's cold, but oddly enough stale, black coffee can taste better when it's cold.... when it's hot, I prefer cream and sugar :p So, my internet isn't working "Limited or no wireless connectivity" apparently, so it should be prime for writing.... but that just gave me the cue to nap.... Go, go, procrastination? So the internet on my computer is still not working, so I've got to wait until Brad gets home to look at it, but I can still write, cuz I put my file on my flash drive. Where do I want to go w/ the story, though..... Hmmm.... Brad gets out of work at 7, and because I just slept for a couple hours, and the time change is throwing me off too, I'm all groggy and can't focus lol.. Wondering if I should have some of the leftover sushi... Maybe watch a movie ... lol.. aren't we the greatest procrastinators? :p

I stayed up until midnight because I just couldn't wait any longer (I've been thinking of the plot for my story for a month and have been dying to start!). I only wrote for an hour because I wanted to rest for more intensive writing later on. I haven't really spent much time writing because I went the California Rolling for a few hours today. So far I have 2,256 words. I'm glad that I have a brief outline of the beginning of my story. It's helped. Good luck everyone!

Wrote here and there throughout the day, whenever I got the chance. Hubby has been awesome about a) constantly telling me I should be writing, and b) taking care of some stuff around here (like making dinner) so I CAN write. I had some slow patches and some inspiration today. Capped off at 2127 for Day 1. Not bad, methinks. Now for some down time, then bed.

My writing times are a little odd. I basically go to bed at 9/10 am, wake up around 3/4 pm, then go through the rigors of cooking, cleaning, or running errands, and finally sit down around 9 or so to write. I was treated to a break in writing with some Popeye's chicken, mmmmm. I have my kettle of yerba mate' and I plucked out nearly 1,500 more words in the past couple hours, but I keep getting distracted by needing to look things up. Procrastinating, whee. Maybe tomorrow I'll just get more research done and out of the way before I start writing again, but I'm always really ADD about things like that.

I'm looking forward to meeting at Jitters on Tuesday, but I'm not sure if we're doing a write-in, or if it's just a meet-up? Das hubby is letting me jack his netbook, seeing as it has a 12 hour battery life, as opposed to my craptacular, outdated 1 hour battery on my laptop.

Glad that your husband is supportive! My boyfriend decided to join me in this insane venture, so I'm guessing not much is going to get done around here in the upcoming weeks... I'll probably use my downtime once I finish my job on the 6th, to keep things somewhat sane here. I loved Chris Baty's pep talk, I haven't gotten it in my mailbox yet, but read it on the site, and it's great, cuz it addressed everything I was pretty much worrying about!

I feel a little guilty about the fact that I haven't really been looking for jobs much, but at the same time, I just want to write and have some down time to enjoy myself, much like Chris mentioned in the pep talk...that we're allowed to have fun this month, for the lack of it we have the remaining 11 months of the year!

I'm currently on 1,499 and trying to keep myself going... feels like I keep running into walls though.. I gotta get this fire moving, ya know? Any suggestions?

EDIT: I don't know which it'll be this week, but a good number of folks came last week, and I only imagine more will come this week, cuz NaNo is actually underway now.... I'm all for it being a writein with the added perk of caffeine and company! By the way, what exactly is yerba mate? If it's like, a tea, or something, would you mind bringing one for me to try, I'm rather curious about it!

I completely forgot about the Kick Off Party! I'm so sad that I missed it. :(

I've spent most of today sleeping (really needed some) and playing WoW (yay for primary distraction), and now I'm posting this instead of writing, which I really need to do. But I am unprepared as usual (only have vague ideas of what to write--at last I HAVE ideas, so I probably shouldn't complain too much), so here's hoping I can bang out at least a few words before today ends and I really need to get back to sleep.

Because I may or may not have a quiz tomorrow morning. Oh well, classes are almost over for me, and this is more important!

Hope everyone's having fun writing... :D

I can hardly wait to meet everyone, but it also makes me really nervous and anxious, too. I'm kind of shy, but I used to be a social person in the past. I don't know when or why that happened, maybe it's just because I'm getting older and grouchier, ha! Yerba mate is brewed like a tea, except that it's infused for more like 10-20 minutes. Jitters should have it, because it's becoming more common to find in coffee shops as a coffee alternative, but I'll bring some with me, too. You can look it up on wikipedia for more info if you're curious :) I don't want to clutter up the boards with too much text.

Geez, I hit 3,600 words at 1:30 am and now I'm finding myself distracted again. Singing along to Opeth's Damnation album isn't helping, heh. Must....concentrate.

I didn't start until after midnight on 11/2 - but I just hit the 2178 word mark. Hoping to hit over 5000 by the end of today.

I REALLY want to front load the month, so I'm not scrambling on November 30th to get the rest of the words out. We'll see though. I'm a stay at home dad who takes care of a 20 month old as well as home schools an 8 year old.

This is gonna be fun!

So, good morning everybody, I'm stuck at work... doing some editing for a friend's grant... that probably sounds nightmarish to most of you, but I actually enjoy editing work :) It's all the other stuff i need to do, such as write a "summary/impression" report of my 9 months here at my job... Accomplishing that without a lot of needless anger may be difficult...

Does anybody watch Castle? I watch it regularly and love the show, missed it last week because Brad and I were having so much fun writing, but caught up the next day online :) Thought I'd mention it cuz of the writer in it ! I wish they'd mention how he does his writing instead of just showing the odd 30 seconds of him typing on his laptop.... Oh how easy writing would be if it only required writing 30 secs every week :P

So, sipping some pumpkin flavored coffee from the K-Cup machine at work... I'm going through that whole "OMG how am I going to get all this shit done before Friday" mixed in with "I just want to waste as much time as possible until Friday so that I can go home and just....forget this job lol" and of course the healthy dose of depression "This is my last Monday on the job.."

We can't win, can we ? BUT, NaNoWriMo is one thing we CAN win at!!! Just not at life :P

I'm writing. And balancing a ton of other stuff. I have actually postponed commissioned projects and classes for this - but no complaints; I am loving it.

Just saying hi.

I watch Castle, but only on hulu.com, along with House, because my hubby doesn't really care for either show. We do watch Bones, Sons of Anarchy, True Blood, Weeds, and other things together, but we tape those on the DVR. I think Castle is a fun little show :) The other month, I watched all the episodes of Dead Like Me, which is really funny most of the time. I love Callum Blue as Mason, especially the episode where he tries to hook up with some girl, any girl, and keeps passing out the worst pick-up lines known to man.

I was struck down by ...uh.....inconvenient agony for a couple days after/during my illness and I wasn't able to write at all, but I'm better and able to sit up again without pain. Now we play the catch-up game! I was at 25k on Monday, so I'm sprinting towards 35k at midnight tonight. We'll see if I can make that, yeesh. I just have to put my head down and my blinders on and type, type, type... I wish I could meet up at the Old Toad tonight, but it's my hubby's birthday and we're getting together with friends tonight to celebrate. I hope everyone has fun!!! Drink some cider for me!
