If you hit the "Regional Info" tab at the top of these forums, it will tell us the number of active Wrimos who call this region home, the percent who have donated money to the cause (you guys rock!), and, come November, the average word count. Yessss.
There's also a slot for comparing to other regions, though I imagine it will be in terms of total word count (but who can know until we start). For now, I've put the five Indiana "city" regions that we compared ourselves to last year, when we were better than all of them in the end (Bloomington and Indy give us the stiffest competition).
I'll keep our daily word count progress noted in this thread once NaNo kicks off, and note where our competition lies.
It's updated at some weird time overnight, probably to be synced up with Australia or something. So the "dates" will never be perfect, until the very end, but since everyone's synced at once, we'll at least get a good idea of where we stand.
As of November 1st, we are in a zillion-way tie for 209th with 0 words per person.

My piddling, sad word count is still being counted toward this region. I'm hoping to turn this around tonight!

We were 86th, if I remember correctly, in terms of average word count. We have a reputation to live up to now, you know! Even if only in my eyes. Top 100 or bust!

Remember - this is a marathon not a sprint! In the first week, everyone is excited to get out and go. But when the second week blues set in (and they always do), the dedicated ones persevere. That's when regions start falling off the charts and awesome regions with dedicated people, like ours, will steam on ahead to the top. Right now, what we all have to do is be sure to KEEP AT IT. No matter if it's 100 words or 5000 a day. KEEP GOING. That is what will bring us ahead. It's how we did it last year.
And too, every year there is always a region of only one person and they claim to have written 50,000 in one day. That just not right.
It's day four. Happy Day Four, everyone!

I have done my part in the day's word count average. Come, bask in the glory of my 12,215 words. *raises arms in magnimous benediction* Fear not the 10,000 word line on your stat bar, join me in the light.
Ok, I'm a little sleep-deprived and I'm in the middle of a 7-day stretch at work, so I'm a tad off my game.
But. Really. Awesomeness is in my future. I can smell it.
Oh, and humble statician ML, weren't we going to word war with someone or someones? And what are their stats like?

Ah, my beloved first child. How grand to be at 12,215! I am so pleased.
You may want to travel a little further, and catch up with the old man's 14,774, though. The light is better way, way, WAY up here!!
Keeping Up With The Allards (or Allard/Martin clan) may be enough of a word war within the region.... God/s/ess/esses know, it's pretty intense at the homestead, no???
The other day, for the rest of you, Barb's husband Nick chided me for "being a writer but sitting there playing Spider solitaire," and that caused my fingers to bop out enough to set me well ahead of schedule, where I remain.
Thanks to Nick!! Couldn't have gotten that far without your ginormous foot placed upon my lazy backside!

Tomas was trying to pit Baton Rouge against us - they're 650 words ahead of us, on average, which is about 160 spots ahead because the competition is so tight right now. I agree with Nicole that eventually our stamina will win out. It must!
But to compare us to the rest of Indiana, Jasper County is in 15th place (because there are THREE of them and they are all writing), Richmond is 850 words ahead of us in 153rd, Indy in 289th, Bloomington in 332nd, North in 335th, Terre Haute in 355th. We are ahead of Evansville (385th) and Elsewhere (440th). And Sri Lanka. Which is third from last at 482nd.

There is nothing like getting swept away into the magnificence of one's own prose and suddenly find someone in the story, and not really knowing who they are or from whence they came....
Kind of like when your main character suddenly chooses to leap over the narrative fence and attempts to flee the scene... Come back, Shane!!
5k!! Awesome! Hump the dump and fly, fly fly!
And more than word count, I think we should perservere, and assist, until we have the highest percentage of winners (for a group larger than 3, that is!).
