I spent about twenty minutes right after midnight showed up on my computer and started typing away and got up to 2000 words. I woke up early this morning and spent about two hours working on my other five thousand words. I may have to rewrite some of it to make it clearer but I think I can make ten thousand by the end of this day and maybe beyond, if I don't have any interruptions.

I have a lofty goal set for this day, get up to ten thousand words, edit it all tomorrow and then the day after that write another ten thousand and edit that the next day till I finish this novel.

I have my wall covered in paper where it has all the information on my characters, locations and an outline of where the direction of the story is heading towards.

All I can hope for is no big time distraction to pull me away from writing this year since it is a subject that I like. :)

So how are you all doing on your first chapter or second chapter of your novels?

Beth

Woot! Good for you!

I started my writing and got to about 800 words and hit a wall - the sleep one. It's been a hard weekend for me and I was sick last week, so staying up late enough to start writing was touch and go for a bit. Hopefully after a good sleep, I'll be able to write a little bit more each time I sit down. I'm more of a sprinter than a marathoner - 500 words here and there, 4 or 5 times a day usually hits my writing goal for the day, and keeps the story flowing without feeling it is overwhelming me.

I actually have a life....kinda.

Just about 7000, going to hit 10k today. Stayed up late last night. Thank the heavens for Daylight Savings Time that I got another hour to write.

I'm bad. I haven't even started writing yet. Couldn't stay up last night. Slept in today. Need to go to the grocery store.....then I'm going to start. And I hope to go to the write in today. I'm just gearing towards 1700 if I'm lucky. I don't know why this year seems so hard.

Go overachievers! Especially ones that magically find editing time during NaNo... that's impressive in its own right!

I hit 2.4k during the write in, even after swapping up stories after 1k's worth of work. (Some things just got awkward real fast).

My novel is off to a slow start; mostly due to the fact that last night at midnight I suddenly realized I had to come up with characters and a setting for my novel. Got that all set down though and I'm going to try to get somewhat of a head start on my word count during the Write In today.

My word-count is barely past 500, so I'm not even going to update it. It's not so much that I'm not excited, but I realized at about 10 last night that I was going on two days feverish and without sleep and didn't even have much, other than a few scene ideas and 3 half-formed MCs, beyond the original beloved plot I came up with; I spent the first half of October in the hospital and the second half in a house-bound stupor of treatment-resistant mental illness (won't go into details except to say that lithium's a bitch), so I (understandably, I would hope) completely forgot to finish the planning I started. A plot you're eager to write is awesome, but it's hard NOT to feel lost when you don't know periphery characters or even a few of your MCs' NAMES.

Soooooo, I'm going to go get some sleep, clean my house, and hopefully when I get back from the endless procession of doctors' appointments tomorrow and break the brain fog I can flesh everything out all the way in preparation for a 10,000-word Tuesday! I never liked Sundays or Mondays anyway ;)

Despite the personal shortcomings, I'm really happy for the progress everyone else seems to be making! SGF NaNoWriMo; kicking (STL) ass and taking names since 2001 :'D

1773 words at present. As soon as homework is done I'm going to expand that to 4k or so.

Cleared 5k thanks to the write-ins. I've got to take a break from noveling to eyeball some homework, but I'm hoping to hit 6k before the night ends.

I'm slightly exhausted from the midnight write-in (which was AWESOME), and today's write-in (which was also AWESOME), and the fact that my delightfully jerky neighbors decided that they must rev their car and make it backfire like crazy starting at 9:30 this morning. Idiots.

But, hey, word count is healthy, and I can go to bed early tonight!

I've definitely been doing better at the write-ins than at home. Too many distractions, I guess. So I'm thankful that there are more write-ins this year, and definitely looking forward to the ones on Friday and Saturday.

Good to see so many people having such good count!

Well, I was all proud of myself for nearing 2500, but then I saw that some already have over ten thousand! After my ego deflated and I threw a little 'my first year and I suck' pity party, I've decided to keep going.

It's so hard to juggle homework and everything, but this is so much fun at the same time!

You don't suck! Never say that about yourself when it comes to NaNo. You wrote over 2000 words! That's more than most people will ever write of a novel! Be proud of your word count! Plus, you crossed the Day 1 threshold (1667). And that's really the biggest hurdle.

The people out there with 10,000+ words have been doing this a long time and it definitely gets easier the longer you do it. So don't worry about them and definitely don't set stock in the fact that because they've written more that they're better than you. All Wrimos are equal! Because were all doing something equally insane.

Guys, check out how awesome we are. We're 115th on the scoreboard (we beat all of Italy AND Spain, and probably other countries that were farther down the list than I looked). That puts us in the top 24%. >w< Keep on goin', people!

In other news, I really wanna pick up my NaNovel today but I shouldn't because I have a speech and a paper to write. ... D: But I has ideas, I wanna wriiiiiiite. *flounder*

I'm plugging along. It helps that I haven't gotten anywhere near the point where I don't know what happens next, and I think that I'm actually writing better because I'm spending a lot of words on making it real, instead of racing ahead to get to the good parts.

The bad thing is that I'm writing really slooowly, and I need to get 15,000 words in by Thursday night so I can leave for four days with a clear conscience.

With this being my first attempt at NaNoWriMo, I am off to a great start. My word count is.......*drum role please*......zero!!!!
But I have good reason. I have been very excited about trying this, but unfortunately my husband and I had to leave town over the weekend for the funeral of a loved one :( We got back Sunday but then had to get caught up on laundry and today I had work. While I don't think I'll have time to work on it tonight, I plan on getting started tomorrow. I have no clue what I'm getting myself into, but I think it'll be fun, exciting and nerve wracking at the same time so I am ready for the challenge.
I have a least given a lot of thought to what to write about. I have another novel that I work on in my spare time and it is an organized plotted mess but is a lot of fun working with as my first novel. Since in my spare time (which will definetly not be this month!) I am trying the plotted route, I thought it'd be fun to use this month to try a not as plotted route. I know about how I'll start but I'll let the story role. Knowing me, if I try to figure out a plot first, there will be no way I'll get 50k by the end of the month so I figure, what the heck, why not give it a shot? If worse comes to worse, I'll at least know I am no good at writing a book with out a preplanned plot.

As of tonight my word count is 6,114. This is going way better than I thought. I'm dreading the middle when I'm sure the count will slow down.

I actually brought my laptop with me to work so I could continue writing while I'm on break. It's coming along, kind of slowly, but it's there.

Edit: Broke 5,000. I'm actually giving myself a nice buffer for later in the week when I'll have less time to write.

17,000 ! And editing! You are amazing.

I'm feeling pretty good, bolstering myself to stick with it (this is my first time) When I get stuck on one chapter, I move ahead to another and start making stuff up. Didn't watch tonight's Netflix because I worked in the garden instead of on the computer. This is quite a challenge.

Have to go to Springfield (1.5 hours each way) this week to return a vacuum, so it might as well be on Friday so I can join the Borderline writer folk at the write in. Back in the day that was sit in and right on - so now well be sitting and writing. I'm interested to see how the group process works.

Downloaded Scrivener software and am loving it for this novel purpose. Got some novel writing books from the library and returned all the fiction so as not to keep my attention away from "my" story. Truthfully, this is very difficult. I want to cook, do laundry and yet - got to force my attention back to writing.

Bye now

Broke 5000 today. Proud of myself in the way that I actually haven't ran out of story yet. Normally I try to wrap it up way too fast. Starting soccer weights tomorrow and sort of dreading my word count between that and sadistic Algebra II teacher. Hopefully I'll stay ahead and be able to win my first year doing this.

Also, remember guys: If your NaNo novel actually comes to a close before you hit your 50,000 words, you're more than welcome to start a second novel in order to cross the finish line. Technically any fictional story that you write between November 1st and November 30th counts towards NaNo if you want it to!

I officially joined up on the 1st as I just found out about the project. I've spent a little time trying to get a little understanding of how the forums work and now that I'm getting tons of notices in my email from my two regions, I've been trying to figure out what I'm suppose to do with it all.

I started my story as of today and have only found about an hour to actually work. Hopefully, tonight after visiting my daughter and new baby at the hospital, I'll find more time to write. I've only got 421 words as yet and my goal is to, at least, break 1,000 before bed. I know it doesn't sound like much but I'm determined I'll catch up. My biggest problem is that I don't know what I'm going to write until I write it. I have my mc and her family at this point, husband and three children with a set of twins. Where they came from beats the heck out of me.

You can catch up! Take it from an old pro; you can always catch up! 1,000 words by the end of the night is a great start. I highly, highly recommend a write-in if you can make one. Word counts go through the roof at write-ins.

Fantastic to have you aboard, and give a shout when you hit the first four-digit score!

Well, I finally was able to sit down this evening and start writing for the first time. I reached 1400! I'm going to do one last push to write some more before calling it a night. I want to try to hit 2k. I did that math and if I try to hit 2k each day, I'll have my 50k by the end of the month. I am sure some days I won't write at all and other days I'll write tons at once, so I know it's not exact, but I figured that's a good goal to start with and attempt to do.
I hope everyone else is doing well!

I hit my 10K mark last night. Technically, it was today, since it was a 1:00 in the morning, but whatever. Going to write some today (up to about 10500 right now. Sort of pitiful.) and hope to get to at least 12000 before the night is done.
