Each and every year that I do NaNo, I end up sick.
I woke up last night sick with what seems to be the flu (non-H1N1, based on symptoms). My whole plan of staying up all night and writing my heart out? Yeah, out the window due to needing Nyquil and sleep, LOL.

Anyone else have this same problem, of each year, getting sick?

Any suggestions on how to keep myself motivated when I just want to climb into bed and sleep?

This is my first year doing NaNoWriMo. Regardless, this morning, I woke up and felt seriously sick--pounding head, gurgling nauseous stomach. But I'm writing my novel currently, wrapped in a blanket, a large bowl next to the chair--just in case, drugged up on sinus meds and Tums.

My advice to you is to do it. Write. (That's the best advice I've ever received.) Writing is a self-motivated past-time. You may feel like poop and want to sleep, but you've got to resist the urge. Think about the characters whose stories will never be told if you don't write, think about the amazing plot twists that will never occur if you don't write. Think about the sense of satisfaction you won't feel if you don't write,

Something that helps to get me in the swing of things is to put on my favorite music. You might try that. And use incentives. Chocolate, for instance, is mine.

I wish you luck and a speedy recover!

Hang in there.....this is my first year, every time I have sat down and tried to get focused, the phone rings....had to laugh at one of the interruptions ( I ignored the phone the first time it rang). My neighbor had climbed up on her roof to clean the leaves out of the gutter and her ladder fell. Thank goodness she had her phone in her pocket, she might have been sitting there for a while. Laugh in between the nausea and know that all will be well, and you will write more tomorrow if need be. Take care. Deb

Sorry for the triple post, everyone. My computer glitched and I can't figure out how to delete the posts...

I generally end up getting sick at some point in the month. I've just learned to write more when I'm feeling good. This year, I actually had issues in October that I'm hoping will mean a smooth November. I had emergency gall bladder surgery on the 10th and my uncle died on the 25th. Now that my stomach is healed (mostly, still can't do some things), and the funeral is over, I'm having trouble getting my fingers going again. But I'm thinking (gasp) switching to a new novel. In fact, I'm getting off of the internet right now and spending a half hour on some prewriting to determine whether or not I can change to the new novel. If I can't figure out who the killer is, I don't know that I'll do it. But I definitely have to figure out something. 150 words is a totally uncool wordcount for a day.

Sadly, yesterday writing was not to be on the agenda. I couldn't sit up, and if I laid down, I fell asleep (seriously, LOL). I did get 1001 words done. That just means I have to write a little over 2000 today to catch up. I think I can do that.

kaszoom is right. Best advice. Just write through it. You'll get a release of endorphins from it. You'll build energy. Adrenalin. Those things are more effective against the flu than anything.

Make sure that you included all the info they asked for - user name, real name, etc. If you didn't, they can't match up a Paypal donation with a username, if that's what you used, or even a check.

Thankfully, yesterday, I was able to pull myself up and get my word count.
It helped that my husband basically locked me in the bedroom, LOL, and that I used the Write or Die Desktop edition.
I went for 1001 words to 3981 in less than 12 hours, even while dealing with a 4-year-old and 6-year-old.

I'm glad to see that Sarah is feeling better and that she is proving that sickness is no excuse for not finding time and energy to write. We probably won't all be able to write every single day this month, as life and all of the distractions it brings interferes with our wordcount, but staying on track with yoru word count goal and trying to catch up if you get behind can be wonderful tools for making it through the month.

My month started relatively easy (two days off work to start writing, including one when the baby was at daycare) but now I don't have a cushy break again for awhile and other responsibilities are crowding in like crazy, so I am hoping to maintain my word count buffer as long as I can!

Happy writing everyone!

Perhaps my entire novel can be written during hours and minutes that my toddler is sleeping. Perhaps not.
