I thought it would be neat to keep us on track. Post here with your thoughts. Did you make your goal/exceed/fall short? If you fell short what is your plan to make it up? I have found by experience that if you miss a day and don't plan when you are going to make it up, its a lot harder.

I plan on making my goal today. I have rethought some of the story line as well as the atmosphere since it's planned 500 years before my other novel.

I made 2,920 words today! However, I sit here with time to write and find myself already a little uninspired. I'm telling myself that's okay, just worry about each day as it comes. I've more than made my goal today.

I'm trying for 2,000 a day, so I can take an occasional day off.

Yep. Made it a little over 2K. And that's with 6 hour drive back from West Virginia and getting only five hours of sleep.

I wish I could hit 3K but it's not happening today....

I went to the kick off today, and fell short of my official word count goal, but I did manage to expand my plot far more than I ever anticipated I would, thanks to discussions with some amazingly talented people who attended as well. Even though my word count is drastically lower than it should be, my plot has evolved immnsely, and it should be ten times easier tomorrow.

I was really surprised to find that I exceeded my word count goal for the day. Especially since I had only a vague plot going in, was out of town until 7:30 tonight, and am a notoriously slow writer. But somehow, I got on a roll and managed to log over 4,400 words! I just hope that doesn't mean I'll be all out of ideas when it comes time to write tomorrow. LOL Really, I feel enormous relief. Making the first day's goal encourages me that maybe I really can do this!

I went to it, and doubled my worcount, getting a grand total of 3,000 words, and writing nearly 400 more words when I got back.

I'm working on my outline right now to help with the writing process and keep me on track. I'm just about finished with that and I'll start working on my day 2 totals.

Sorry, late checking. But the answer is yes and I'm on track this year. So different from last year. But I did have to skip the party to get the words down.

I made a little over 1800 hundred for day one. I haven't started on day 2 yet.

I am still pretty far behind, technically. Even though my word count is very low for the end of the second day, I don't consider myself behind persay. I don't consider myself behind because I finally made it past the opening scene that has been giving me so much trouble. I am notoriously bad at writing good openings, but once I get past the opening I usually get my act together and start kicking some serious butt. I need to write 4000 words tomorrow to get back on track, but that should be a problem. I know exactly where I am going to take the story from here.

Over 2K again today. For some reason, it's like pulling teeth trying to get the words out on this novel. No idea why. Perhaps I'm not in the frame of mind or something :P

I've wanted to aim for 3K per day but I normally start losing focus a little after the 2K mark. Hoping to hit 7 or 8K tomorrow but we'll see.

Day 3, and I'm feeling great...right on target. Not feeling any pressure so far, and loving the discipline of daily writing. This may be just the push I was needing to get going on this project!!!

No!! I'm still on yesterday's words... Ugh. I didn't do any preparatory work this time, so I didn't know anything about my characters or my setting or anything until I began. I find that I'm having trouble bonding with the story I've chosen, but I'm going to give it time and try to find the magic in it... I'll be able to do about 2000 words tonight to catch up. It's starting to form, just slowly.

I did the same - waited until NaNo started to begin everything. I had a vague idea of my character but I didn't touch it until November 1. Yesterday I wrote out my outline of the story. I would suggest you figure out how many chapters you will need and then beginning filling in a brief summary of what happens in each. It really helps with content and story progression.

Get organized and get ahead...it's so much easier right now to catch up and get ahead than it ever will be any other time of the month...as it is, I was ahead by a day's word count going into today, and that's looking like a good thing, since I'm getting called out in the field to look at a scene tonight. No way that I'm gonna get a day's worth done today...so getting ahead is like gold!

Okay, so I'm only at what... err... 798. Who are you to judge?
Look, if I had the proper keyboard and my computer were faster I'd already be at like 11,872 for sure.

The thing is I've got all the words in my mind, so getting them down on the paper or screen or whatever shouldn't really matter. The things is I've got a life, okay. And at times that life creeps in and gets in my way, so I'm writing in my mind, as I drive the car --♪ baby, you can drive my car, beep, beep, beep, beep yeah ♫ -- as I wash the dishes and other stuff.

The words are there, so I"ll get them, don't you worry. ♪ If those words don't sound just right, momma's gonna buy you a rockin' horse. ♫

Next thing you know, I'll be at like 14,982 and breezing along. There's no need to worry about me.

♬ I'm alright, don't nobody worry 'bout me. I'm footloose, cut loose, everybody cut, cut loose. ♫
Another two or three mountain dews and all them words is going to kick into overdrive. Overdrive, you hear?
Put the tunes on, get the keyboard just right, so it's in my lap, then the muse comes rolling into the room.

Next you think you know I'm at like 17,899 and flying along the highway. That's what it's going to be for me.
Not even the keyboard could stop me now. Oh, I know it wants to but it can't.

There's no stopping us.
I'll be like George Washington crossing the Delaware,

throwing a silver dollar across to make sure it ain't too deep.

Or maybe I'll be like Orville Wright the first time the plane finally took off, and you know what, it'll be like shhhhhrrrrooooooowwwwwww, flying like a jet. Chuck Yeager breaks the sound barrier and I break the typing barrier of 280 wpm and my keyboard will scream and I'll be like at 19,384 and people will be like I knew that guy when he was only at 798.

Wow, that is some serious stuff, but I hope I don't get stuck watching Dances with Wolves - Extended Cut (Two-Disc Collector's Edition)
because once it starts you think, "Okay, I seen this afore", but then you think, "but it's so good," and it's not like it was with Waterworld. But really, waterworld wadn't so bad were it? I kind of liked some of it.

And next think you knew I'm breezing into stop at 37,832.

Yep, that's the way it's going for me so far. I'm stuck at 798.
Wish I had more time to write. But the doggone keyboard keeps barking at me.

I'm about six hundred words short of caught up, which I can probably hit tonight if I'll just get off the damn computer. I did 1,800 at Kava tonight and really only stopped because they were closing. I type faster on a computer than on the AlphaSmart and Mom wants to lend me her MacBook until my laptop gets fixed (every time I talk to her about NaNo and don't ask for her computer she tells me that I can take it, she really means it), so hopefully I'll get a little more of a buffer there.

Your post cracked me up, daynight. LOL

I can't believe how well it's going for me so far. I've managed to keep up and even get ahead a little, which I'm going to need around Thanksgiving, since I doubt I'll be able to write that day at all. I'm really excited--maybe NaNo is what I've needed all this time, to kick my butt into gear and get a novel done. On the other hand, I'm terrified that it's going too well and I will crash and burn soon. LOL Ah, the joys of being a writer. ;)

We can all do this, together. Don't get discouraged if you're behind. Just focus on getting today's words done, and then worry about catching up. You may have to spread the catching up over a few days, doing a little more than the goal each day, but you'll get there!

Yay!! I'm catching up... I've gotten through yesterday's words, finally, then I'll be on today's if my workday ever ends... (Don't tell my boss I'm doing this on company time.) Things are coming together... my characters are breathing, and starting to talk to each other and care about things. It's amazing how many words come out of a basic conversation.

Keep going, everybody... we're amazing ... Dayton rocks!!

Having the story stuck in your head is the worst thing ever. That's why I'm going on 12 years writing my first novel. The second I am much more organized so when I go to write I know exactly how much content to write and it's so far going quite well. The words just slip off the keys.

Just make sure that you have goals and targets for yourself. Maybe you don't need to track with the 1667 a day count, but at least make sure you have something to make the 50k one.

I didn't think I was going to make the 1667 goal for Wednesday, because it was such a hectic day that I didn't get a chance to write until very late in the evening. But I did finally manage it. Phew. The writing's slowing down a little, though. It worries me some. I hope I'm able to sustain the story throughout the whole 50,000 words.

I made some comment earlier about getting ahead and now I'm a day behind. Didn't get anything written last night due to personal life explosion. Setting aside tonight to write like a fiend and catch up. And have hopes of getting ahead over the weekend...

I had about 1k words yesterday left to write at about 11 PM and instead of going to bed and playing pick-up I decided to just churn through it. I don't want to get behind because if I do I am afraid I'll never get out of it.
