Celebration time. Did you make your word count? Make coffee? Actually get out of bed today?

What gave you a yeah today?

============================================================================

I just looked at my word count to see how much further I needed to go today after doing a session of write - or - die and typing in my handwritten from last night.... YEAH! 2299! I'm such a dork.. but a happy dork. Lol even if I did decide at the almost last minute to change up which story I'd be writing... =D

Oh yes, the coffee. I officially had 3 I'm gonna be hurting at work tomorrow. No, I take that back. All month long :D I can get over the need for bread and annul the caffeine addiction in December. Words! Woo!

Seriously though, the biggest YAY for me was that I discovered that with a sicilian pizza from shiano's (which is essentially a whole lot of bread with some yummo toppings...) I can have sugar and caffeine and dairy and not die...^_^

I am kind of excited that I made my word count and it didn't even hurt. I know the real challenge will be writing every day, but for now I am basking in the honeymoon stage: I have committed and so far it's just fun!

I am Superfragicatically Expialidociously Exctied to have met and surpassed my goals for both days! At the rate I will have hit 50k in no time.

What's really exciting is finally finding out what happens in this story that I have been preparing for 6 months..that's right 6 months...I don't know if other people take that long to plot organize and character develop, but I do. I am really proud of what I have so far and plan to dump my words once a week. That way I don't get bogged down with worry over my word count and I can just focus on writing.

I haven't don't anything to celebrate yet, I think I wil at the end of the week. Yay!

Odd question - what region has challenged us? And what are the terms? How do we check our progress so as to light our fires and chant? =D

I achieved four times my prospective goal for my first day!

The real thing I'm proud of though is my first page. It holds a 16-line, 208 word sentence of truly epic padding proportions. That's not even to mention my later multi-sentence rambles, but the first is my favorite. I compared uniform trousers to a solider going off to war. Among other interesting metaphors...

Also, first dead body! Stepped over it, though, as you could say. My story is not suited to dead bodies, but one did worm its way in. It must have been pretty funny, now that I think about it, to hear me stating with horror 'I've killed someone. Oh my gods, I killed someone! With a deck of cards!'

So what's this about a region challenge?

Killed by cards? That is totally awesome!

I thought someone mentioned that we'd been challenged by another region? I could be mistaken...

I believe our illustrious MLs announced that we had been challenged by Baton Rouge at the kickoff party. I could be wrong about that, but if they are in fact the challengers, here are the stats:

In 231st place, with 85,171 words: United States :: South Carolina :: Columbia
In 201st place, with 98,399 words: United States :: Louisiana :: Baton Rouge

Eek! They're beating us by 13,228 words and it's only 11/2!

Pardon me, I need to go do some writing. And what are you doing reading this? So do you!

Okay, the good news is that Baton Rouge has now fallen to 231st place, with 297,148 words.

The bad news is that we have also fallen, to 252nd place, with 260,132 words. We are now behind them by 37,016 words.

Um.... oh illustrious MLs? What are the stakes of this challenge exactly??? Just how bad is this news?

On the positive side, no matter the stakes, it's still only November 5th, so we have plenty of time to catch up!

I need to celebrate. So I figured this is a good place to do so.

I managed to ramble along and make obscure frustrating hints all the way to 8.5k without reveal just what this 'mysterious change' (read: primary antagonist) going on is and on the 8,505 word, I finally reveal him. It's a new headmaster! Yay! Wait, we don't know his name?
Oh yes, I managed to go that long without a single word about my antagonist and he still doesn't have a name. He won't get one for a while either. I have a twisted sense of pride for that kind of it-took-you-that-long-ness, I must say.

On an unrelated note, two lines later, a dead body appeared. It was the former headmaster. No correlation of course.

As for the challenge, I have but this to say:

Stakes????? There are stakes?????

I just thought I'd throw out a "Yippie! I crossed 10K!" Considering the fact that I wrote only 1000 words during the first three days, I'm feeling pretty good about it. :)

To all of you who are losing steam, just keep typing! Throw in a ninja and see what happens.

I hit the 10k mark on Friday! I'm stoked! I already had an good idea where I wanted my plot to go before I started writing, but what I'm finding is that really interesting backstories for my characters are coming out. They have real personalities. And I'm becoming a huge fan of one of my small secondary characters , so much so that I may explore her story further in another novel...perhaps NaNo 2010?

Of course, I haven't written anything since Friday. College football is so darn distracting!

Got really excited for a separate adventure of sorts that happens later in my story, but then felt bored with the current plot point earlier in the story. So I decided to just "cut ahead" and write the second portion for now, and jump tracks between the two as the muse allows. YEAH!

Character got mad at action-halting lengthy descriptions. Added 3/4 page with action-halting lengthy rant.

Well I didn't get a chance to celebrate at the end of the week. I am seriously behind on my word count and I have run into some kinks. I am working on getting some time to myself to catch up, but it seems like life knows this ans will not let it happen.

L, I'm proud of you for the rant. Nothing makes November more perfect than having to get an earful from your characters on paper about how they should be way more awesome and cool. I'm expecting one to strike mine any minute. It will probably come from my secondary character's point of view. "Hey, author! Why do I get punched in the face? Just because I'm playing second fiddle to the smooth operator over there--hey, author! Are you even listening???"

Single sentences to treasure are indeed the gems of NaNo. Hold onto them and keep writing--your muse will offer you more in return!

Congrats to everyone who has hit a 5, 10, or 15k milestone! Go have a laffy taffy or a chocolate -- YOU EARNED IT!

Love the excerpt. The last lines are awesome in their creepiness.

I, too, posted an excerpt, which is something I never do for NaNo.

OK, my YEAH MOMENT of the day:

I hadn't written since Tuesday, so I was a little behind on my goal. But today I wrote almost 5400 words, bringing me up to over 22k! Yaaaahooooo! And it was all this backstory on my main character and her no-good ex-boyfriend. And it was GOOD y'all! I actually don't want to go back and erase the whole thing!

Way to go, everybody!! :) So exciting to see the word count increase day by day!

So my YEAH! Moment was last night - I figured out a way to put the "I'm a Monster - Rawr!" line from the D&D introduction to 4.0 video [YouTube it!] and a way to make fun of [while paying homage to] vampires while writing a Halloween scene [that ended in a chase]. It made me pretty happy and I have been giggling about it for a while. :)

Oh, I tweeted my Yeah! moment and forgot to mention it up here. My moment did not come in the form of a major plot breakthrough, per se. It came in the realization that I've been missing a key piece of my NaNo wardrobe.

http://twitpic.com/pt5qa

I cannot believe I forgot about my writing totem! My husband bought me this hat last year as a Nanoween present and it is magic. I'm sure it's just a psychological thing, but when I'm wearing this hat, my imagination just goes crazy. I've written almost 5k in the last 24 hours and I'm just getting warmed up for the day. And I even started spinning out plot ideas for a friend's novel when she mentioned a new character to me.

The writer hat is an unstoppable force!

(And it just looks really cool. If you want one of your own, you can get them here: http://www.writersstore.com/product.php?products_id=1041)

WOOT! You go, girl! ^_^

Learned about these today if anyone needs them:

For PC: http://sourceforge.net/projects/temptblocker/

For Mac: http://macfreedom.com/

These both force-block specified programs/interwebs for a specified amount of time so you can get your writing stuff done without interruption. Sure, you can check your gchat real quick during your writing hour. But to do so for the PC version, first you have to type in a 32 character string - annoying! And for the Mac version, you'll have to reboot - tough cookies! Then when time's up, you can play :)

I was curious to see if we made up any ground in our battle against Baton Rouge with the lock-in this weekend. The good news: we did make up a little ground from the last time I checked. The bad news: we're still behind.

Baton Rouge - 233rd place with 1,512,653 words
Columbia - 247th place with 1,420,589 words

But, on the plus side, we've written 1,420,589 words between us this month, which is pretty cool. And there are still 8 days to write remaining. (Assuming we can all sneak away from our families for a little bit and bang out some words on turkey day...)
