Still plenty of time to get those words in and rack up some extra words to keep you ahead of schedule--I know I'm going to need all the extra words I can type down.
But for those who have achieved their goal already and feel like stalking the forums: How'd everyone do today? Any records broken from last year already? New frontiers crossed? Surprising plot twists? New characters already popping out of the woodwork?
I've already got 4292 words and I'm considering stopping due to lack of sleep ;) Maybe I should press on though: I had a little bet with Orphanator that I'd get more words than he did today -- so we'll see who mocks who at work tomorrow. (muhahaha)
The only thing I figured out today was that I'm going to be doing a lot of narrative summary in the coming days because pantzing right from the word GO is terrifying for me. ^_^;; No wait, that's not true. I learned that I currently handwrite faster than I type (This does not bode well for carpal tunnel and word wars, folks) so I may have to do lots and lots of word wars to shape up my typing fingers on this little netbook keyboard. This is in addition to yesterday, when I also learned that some people will trick or treat until 10 at night if you leave your porch light on.
The more you know...

I did 1858 words this evening! Woohoo! My goal was 1700, so I feel really good about that. I could probably write more, but it is bedtime. I apparently thought I was a rock star on both Friday and Saturday nights, and now my liver is in full-on rebellion mode. Stupid vital organs...
If you're done for the day, I posted an excerpt from my first chapter. Feel free to mosey (sp?) on over to my profile and check it out.

Wowsa! That's an amazing word count, writer-4! You sharers of words are brave. I can't share my crazy nano drafts. They are scary. And since this week is going to mostly be narrative summary for me, I'm proud of you lot for getting out intelligible words that a) form complete sentences and b) make sense and c) are really good! ^_^ Keep it up -- tomorrow is the dreaded "Monday"...*shudder*

Every year, I decide to go to some sort of group writing venture. "Last year was a fluke. You'll be productive this year. I promise."
x_X 960 words later, I think I'm confident enough to say that I'm genuinely too distracted by the presence of other writers to get anything done in company. I was hoping to get the majority of my writing done last night, but... yeah. Spent my planning time trying to get Thomas and Alex to the meeting, spent my writing time planning, ate copious amounts of pomegranate- and pumpkin-flavored candy, and got jackshit done. Then I said, "Well, I'll do the rest of my night-time writing at home, once Alex goes to sleep." An hour-and-a-bit of getting lost on the way home nixed that. Drove Alex in to Irmo at 11 for work. Napped in the truck while waiting for dog training to begin. Dog training all afternoon. Got home at like, 6. Slept until now. My high goal is looking less interesting and more laughable as every hour passes.
I'm going to hit 3k before I go to bed and hope to do better tomorrow.

That wasn't so bad! I'm kind of a plodder (not plotter), so making 1700 each day is my goal--no sprinting up front. I would just get winded.
And I made that goal with relatively little pain. I did get sidetracked for a lot of the time though. I kept having to research cell phone/internet/satellite technology in order to determine how, in the near future (around 2050), there would be the ability to witness (but not enter into) events from the last 300 years (kind of a reasonable version of time travel). I think I enjoyed the challenge of constructing a future technology that was built upon present realities. (Maybe Michio Kaku has enticed my imagination with his "Physics of the Impossible".) As I could have predicted, it is the non-fiction that is driving me to create the fiction.
Anyway, thanks for asking. Day one was great. Glad to see the rest of y'all had a good start too.

I'm amazed that I even hit the target, actually; not only did a rescue vehicle retrieve my inner editor from the desert, but I wound up rewriting entirely the 1000 words I did last night (it wasn't just bad writing, it was removing and adding characters in the scene). Will have to think of a more creative way to get rid of the inner editor........

*sigh* Alright, after reading a lot of the posts here, I feel shamed, lol. But I know I shouldn't, everyone works at their own pace after all. Considering that last year I only broke 11,000 words by the end, the results from my work last night and into the wee hours of this morning have given me more confidence in my ability to finish this year. I still have some catching up to do for today. I'm currently 500 words or thereabouts short of the daily goal for yesterday to keep at a good rate of writing. Granted, the first chance I had to sit down at my computer and write was at 10:00p.m. as I was out of town for most of the day and then doing roller derby practice. But also, my inner editor is out of control. I've never been able to fathom the concept of any kind of heavy editing after finishing a body of work. Papers for school, short stories, etc were always edited as I go, with a basic read through for grammar and spelling at the end. Since I wasn't able to attend the Halloween event with you guys, I'm thinking about trying out this exercise of locking up the editor. And counting it towards my word count of course. ;-)

Aaron, I <3 Michio Kaku, and hope that I never meet him because he cannot possibly be as cool in person as he is in his writings. I have two books by him and want more.
In other news: y'all, I am officially behind. I think I have around 1400 words by now... I think...
However, I'm kind of having fun, so that works. Plus there's time enough for love, er words, so I won't panic quite yet. :D

Well for day one I ended at 2753 words. My goal was about 1700. I felt really good about it surpassing my goal. Since I had my outline all ready to go the words just flowed. I am not stressed or worried that I might not make the 50k goal...I think I might even surpassit since I have so much free time on the weekends!
----------I am sooo Siked. I can't wait to see what my story looks like when I am finished. As I write things just come to me that weren't even on the outline. I work it in and BAM! It's like magic right now. I hope it lasts!!!!

I kicked off with 3025 words yesterday. It seems strange to me to have finished on such a round-sounding number, and that was even the end of a sentence and everything. Anyway, that means I almost hit my word count goal yesterday -- missed it by 575 words (I'm insane and trying to do other writing projects during November, so I have a 3600-word goal on days that I actually have scheduled for writing). The plan was to squeeze in a bit more late last night, but I was just too tired to write any more after I got home. Anyway, we have our first official local write in here in Florence tonight, so hopefully a few more word wars will boost me back up over where I need to be!
Congrats to everyone on doing so well!

... My three year old nephew just fell off his play-desk in his room onto his face. Poor tyke. My mom is taking him to the ER just in case. Poor l'il guy, he was scared. My mom (Nana) is going with him, but he kept asking me "Gowing 'way?" As though it meant for sure he'd never get to come back.
Lately, when my mom has had to go to the ER, she's had to stay for a few days which really does mean forever to him. Its really heartbreaking...
Hope fully they'll give him something to help the pain - he usually shakes things off obscenely quick, but not this time.
Nnnn. I feel like I should have gone with him, but My brother and I are here with my niece and his mom is heading in from Orangeburg (work). I'm sure she'll just bypass us and head straight there. *Sigh*
I should really write some more but... ya know? *Sigh*
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok - He's back. Nice and swollen, but nothing is broken, just badly bruised. He might even wake up with a black eye tomorrow to accompany the swollen lip and nose but he'll be fine. He's in a chipper mood too. *Whew*
Ahhh...
Of course, though I made my word count for day two I'm scratching my head over the very adult turn my supposed young adult fantasy took. Worse, my MCs explained its whole purpose so I can't cut it out later either... *sigh* Lol. I'll just have to write with a red face and make sure it never sees the light of day... Lol!

I totally agree, Vert. I once saw Kaku on camera, walking the viewers through a documentary. Somehow he seemed lesser. In his writing he is brilliant and awe-inspiring. It's one thing to write that way; it's another to chatter that way. He kind of came across as arrogant and nonplussed about the wonders of the universe (in contrast to James Burke when he was translated from script to screen). Crazy how the same text feels so different spoken versus written. Make no mistake though: The guy's super smart and really cool. I would love to borrow his brain... in a non-zombie sort of way. He's amazing.
Keep penciling away! Best wishes!

Jayde, glad the small one is okay! It's weird how they're so sturdy and fragile at the same time. One of the reasons I'm convinced they are aliens, or ...proto-humans. Reminds me of the Macross saga... h'mmm...
Some writing was accomplished at the dentist's yesterday, which was cool. My FMC has moved from the bar to the hotel bathroom to the dead guy's room. Hopefully today will see her delivering the goods. :)

Jayde...I'm glad the poor thing is ok. I agree, Vert. They are definitely aliens or cybermen. They're indestructible except by great force. I think we grow into our mortality or something. Certainly we don't bend or bounce the way we used to as adults. When I think back to my childhood, it is a miracle my brother and I survived to adulthood with all our limbs attached. My nephew is showing the same kind of dare-devil tendencies. If I ever run out of words, I think I'm going to write the story of the stuff my brother and I did so that Carolyn (my sis-in-law) can use it as a things to watch for guide for Hunter.

So I feel really accomplisehd because I finished the first part of the first section of my out line. It's a little goal achieved, but when I look at the rest of the outline I cringe cause I still have a long way to go.
Has anyone else had their story go in directions you hadn't planned on in your outlining process?
