I know it's the excuse for everything, but is it why Nano won't show our average/total word count(s)? I'm curious to see them. Also, aren't there more than 98 people in this region? Why does the Regional Info part say that's all?
Is there a place for correct statistics?

According to someone in the Bug Forum: "The regional and site-wide wordcounts update on a schedule. I'm not sure if it is once a day or several times a day. So, depending on when the wordcounts got entered there might be a little delay in the updated data getting there."
I'm guessing that since we haven't been writing a full 24 hours yet, it just hasn't updated.
[ETA: Actually, I checked just now, and it says: Wrimos in this region have written 91,952 words (2,627 per Wrimo with wordcount). So it looks like it has updated.]
The 98 people thing is how many people have actively signed onto the website since October -- that is, people who are officially participating this year-- and are "homed" to the region. There are only about 400 people who have ever participated in this region, during any year, and not all of them have come back, so 98 is actually about right.
