Maybe Minneapolis becase they are neck and neck with us for being the most literate city in the U.S.?

Would be fun to challenge an overseas competitor like London or Toronto.

I second that suggestion.

If we're going overall word count, it should be a region that's been competitive in the last few years (i.e. maryland, england:elsewhere, etc). If we're going by average wordcount per actually participating writer, then I don't really have an opinion.

Looking at the recently-updated word count scoreboard though, it looks like we're off to a slow start in fourth place for total word count, and 230th for average word count. First place for donations though!

I say Germany/Austria, since they're currently in the lead by 259,898.

I also think this would be the most fun. Considering where the board is now I vote London or England:Elsewhere. It helps the spirit of competition when they're in a different enough time zone to always be "ahead". It gives us time to rally once they've gone to bed.

We're always off to a slow start, we're procrastinators here in Seattle. :-p

I'm going to wait for a few more suggestions, but I like them all. I really like the idea of England/London.

It would be good for us if somebody gave us a run for our money this year. Nothing spurs on 50K like your city slipping from #1. When we do lose our top dog dog status it'll be 'cause we got cocky.

Given that we're one of the very last places to start, and a lot of locations have a half day or more on us, I'd say we're doing fine. Very impressive on the donations.

I got off to a late start, but just added my first two chapters at about 2000 words each, and I have that good "it's writing itself" feeling about it.

50k, or 50467 in just under the wire for day 3, all submitted and verified even. Hope it helps us out.

Well, unfortunately I'm already playing the "catch-up" game.
I just had to get sick on Halloween, right?
Stuck in a weird sick-coughing-delirium for the past few days, was torture knowing NaNoWriMo was happening without me.
Up-side? I think I may use it in part of my NaNo this year.
Plus, I made up about 2/3 of the words I should have had done by last night to stay on track!

Well, better get working on a writing something with a word count that actually counts! (unless I can find some creative way to use this too? hmmm...)

Woot! I'm glad we're in the lead once again.

What a great surprise to come home to from a write-in!!

I hooted and cheered as if we'd just won the world series or something, WE'RE NUMBER ONE IN THE WORLD!! Not only in words but donations (I'm getting my halo this weekend).

Way to go, Ducks! We're a city & surrounding county besting whole countries and states!

I feel so behind, only kicking in about four thousand and change right now, but I think I've got the tough part done- having the concept solid enough to be viable and having done all the research I think will be needed at least for the next week or so.

What's this second novel business? I'm not nearly finished with my first one. 50,000 words is not an especially long book, and I expect a good editor would chop me down by a third at least.
I'm at 68k and still going with a lot to do yet on this book, and writing is still feeling good.

Current goal is to hit 75k tomorrow to stay on a 15k words a day pace. :)

By the way, thank you again to the people at the Tukwila write-ins, you guys are a lot of fun, and definitely inspiring.
