I'm a bit over 2000 for my first day. Don't forget that December is for editing! 1700 words a day is hard enough without going over it an extra billion times. Also, it's not too late to tweak your character sheets, if you have a properly developed character they'll practically tell the tale themselves.
Also, what word processor is everyone using? I'm currently using notepad++; it doesn't let you edit font styles, which will shave some time off of your writing time, and it has macros so that you can write even faster.
I recommend a few macros such as: "." with the cursor pushed right behind the period so that you can just press one button and start writing what they say, said (character's name). with each macro applied for the separate characters, so that you don't have to spell everything out, and
chapter
so that you can just keep on writing after a section ends.
Lastly, everyone make sure to have fun! So few good writers consider creating their work tedious, and if you think it is, there's not something wrong with you, you're probably just looking at the situation wrong.

I got off to a bad start yesterday. Horrible block. Of course, being so ready to go weeks ago I finally get to sit down and nothing comes out.
Today, I am up to 1580, a great start! I'm using yWriter and am having so much fun with the mechanical voice reading it all back to me!
I've found that listening to some soothing music, instead of silence, really helped get my creative juices flowing.
This is my first time so I'm just going with the flow, trying to keep the pressure off. If I finish, I finish. I really just want to have a good time and see what I can accomplish.
Good luck to everyone. :-)

I'm doing well, I think. This is my first time as well, and I'm up to 4,209. I'm usually really big on editing and re-editing and self-censoring constantly, so it's a big deal for me to be just writing without going back to it. I'm not that happy with the story, but I think it'll be such an achievement for me to hit 50,000 that I'll be okay with it not being up to my usual standards of writing. And like you said, December is for editing.

This is my first Nanowrimo and I was pretty unsure about this when I started, but so far, so good. I don't think I'll be able to keep up this pace for the next 28 days, but this has really been fun so far.

Gettin there...lots of stuff happening to my protagonist already. Amazing how much he's running into and having trouble with! Well, not so amazing--he is MARRIED! :)

Off to a slow start, about to hit 2,000. I didn't know much outlining or character developing prior. I started several stories, using Microsoft Works Word Processor, and finally I just went with an idea I've had for a while and am going for it. Here's to a few more hours without studying or sleeping to get on track!

If you guys want some kickass music to listen to while writing, navigate on over to www.grooveshark.com and play the extra long ambient songs, like rain or nature. Don't you dare go to any other websites though, it'll hurt your word count quick.
Also, congratulations cvoelker for writing so quickly. Your fingers must be flying.

Hey All!
Looks as if one of you has already hit the mark and another half way there. Congrads.
Mine is not flowing quite so easily. But I am at my goal for the day and now back to work.
Have fun everybody! :)
