The most I have written in my teenagelife (I think my 'Santa Clause story'-fase doesn't really count), and it was 16 pages. On day two of NaNo, I'm at 17 pages. I'm so happy!

Anyone else breaking any records?

Have to admit, I've broken my word count record for any previous year's story so far. I'm only at 3500 words, but usually I write 3 pages, think my story is crap and start over every two days. Until I give up about the 15th.

Maybe I'll win with a story I actually continue with!

I'm just over 5,000 words and didn't expect to be there for at least a week. This not editing thing is really working wonders for me!
I'm forcing myself to not re-read and just keep plugging away and it's really going very well!

Happy Writing!

Agreed. I thought this was going to be much harder than I'm finding it- I think having an outline means I can actually write very quickly. Hoping to clear 10 K today and the words are just pouring out!

I agree that having a plot ahead of time is very helpful. I had a very strong idea of most of my characters and the direction of the story before I got started. My plan is to do most of my writing on the weekends: so far, so good.

Edited to add: I love your stat counter! 2 coffees consumed. Very cute.

I just passed the 2300-word mark earlier today; if my luck holds out I think I might make three thousand before the day's over. :)

on saturday, my plot was in shambles, my characters incomplete and my outline was...um...brief...AND i had to work a double shift...
i woke up sunday morning only having to work a half day...as i drove to work in the beautiful fall weather, radio loud, windows and sunroof open...a miracle happened...i could suddenly see all the major plot points in my story laid out before me as one complete entity for the first time...it made sense (well at least to me)...i made 2200 words on day one and i'm back at it again shortly...

I finished off yesterday at 10k, and managed to get to 12,500 words before work this morning! Last year I ended day 1 with about 4500, so yeah, I'm totally kicking last year's ass.

If I get out of work on time (unlikely - I almost always have to stay late on Mondays), I may even shoot for 15k by the end of today!

This is going amazingly well. I was able to get to 10,368 on day 1. Then I rolled into work and worked till 3 am and turned around and came back by 9:30. I'm pretty sleepy and I have to work late tonight, but I'm hoping to add something to my word count before tomorrow. Sooooo exciting!

This is REALLY going better than I'd hoped! ^^ First, I wrote over 4000 words yesterday - and I've never written this much in such a short time in my life - and then it just rolled on today, with over 2000 words *smiling happily* Maybe I don't have to panic that much, even though all the homework is killing me... :)

And it's actually pretty good, too!

Er, well, let's change that to it's not that bad, at least. ^^ But the plot's working, the characters do more or less what they are supposed to, and my MC is sooo cute (he's currently six years old ^^)

Yesterday I broke my record of words written in one day - it was previously 7000 words, and I wrote 8000! It feels good.

I'm surprised at how quickly my story began yesterday. I looked at the word count and I was already over the daily goal! Of course I don't have quite the digits some of you have (congrats to you, by the way!) but I'm really happy that I've been able to silence my inner editors. She's trying to escape but I'm magically prevailing :P

The whole first few days that I fiddled with my plot, I panicked because I thought the novel would suck. I didn't know how in the world to get it all started in three chapters and I was sure I didn't have enough to build up to the climax, but I finished the outline the day before NaNo and when I started writing, it all finally came to me. Suddenly things were being thrown in that I'd never intended. I think, for a first novel, I'm feeling pretty optimistic. I know exactly where its going! I've never ever follow an outline and this is so helpful. I usually never finish any long stories I write, but I know this will be finished. Yah-- score! ^_^

Already at ten pages and I'm hoping to hit the 10k mark before the day is over. I'm still only transferring to the next scene from the opening, I'm stoked!

Well, after the second day, I'm over 7,000 words, meaning I'm around two days ahead of schedule! I even managed to get in a good 1,000 words on my computer at work. Not bad, not bad at all!

This is fun. Never written anything longer than a short story before, and never in English. It actually seems easier to write than in German (my native language) because it flows better - hope the wording is right in the end.

Let's see where this goes.

More than halfway to the win by noonish on day two. I think that's way beyond what I expected, even with what I set out to do. I decided to kick off as if I was doing the 3 Day Novel Contest again and it worked, over 20k on day one has put me way ahead.

The book's going to run long but I have time to do it justice with that heavy-hitting start. Unfortunately today I'm tired and only got in a chapter with 4,000 words or so, but that's all right. Still way way beyond the standard 1,667 and I could afford sick days if I get them -- and afford to let the novel grow to its natural length instead of trying to carve it down to fit within the 50-60k range of shortish novels. I might get 80,000 to 100,000 with this one.

I have more characters than I thought I did. I have a whole clan of mage cats all facing the great evil and so I have time and elbow room to explore how cats get along with each other and how mage-cats get along with each other. They're clever. More than one of them is clever. The whole breed is clever and I love how they solve the problems I throw at them. They don't hesitate. They don't noodle around going "this cannot be happening."

They are a little anthropomorphic but the backstory rules of magic clarified and I suddenly understood why. Exactly why. When they get a telepathic connection with a human, they borrow some of the human's language ability and perspective -- they are psychologically and culturally affected by their human familiars. It's mutual too, the humans also slide toward a more catlike view of life. It's a fascinating balance.

It also reflects reality, because house cats get neurotic in human ways if they live with dysfunctional people. Yet feral cats if they get dysfunctional do so in much more feline ways. I'm finally writing the cats book and it's a good one. I've wanted to read it for a very long time and now a big chunk of it is coming out better than I ever expected.

My outlined version looks so shabby compared to what's actually happened already. I love it.

I'm proud of my progress so far. I aim to do 2,000 words per day and by the end of day 2 I am on schedule with just over 4,000 in total. It's my first NaNo and I've been nervous for the last couple of weeks wondering if I can manage it, but I've been surprised at how easy I find the writing when I sit down and really get on with it. I'm determined not get analytical or think about editing until I've (hopefully) reached 50k and so far I think the quality has been reasonable.

Well done to everyone on their efforts so far, keep up the good work!

Another hooray for outlines! I have never used an outline before, but having to wait for November forced me to use that energy outlining instead of just writing. Holy crap, it's like a road map for your novel! If I get stuck, I just go to the next scene! I thought I would burn out after the first hour, but I am only getting MORE excited as I see my story starting to take shape! I am barely over the minimum word count for today, and MAN DOES THE WRITING SUCK without my usual painstaking, sentence-by-sentence, real-time self-editing , but the bones are there, the story is coming out, my characters are coming to life, and all I want to do right now is keep writing! :D

I have written almost 3000 words on a work night! I'm so happy.

I only need to write another 300 words and then I'll be all up to date. Then I can get behind tomorrow and Wednesday and catch up on Thursday! Hurrah.

I'm really starting to think I can pull off my word count goal of 100k. :) I also think I've flipped out a little.

I was DREADING this NaNo, and now at the end of day 2 I'm at 12k. I don't think I've ever been this far ahead of schedule this early on in the month. Of course, that isn't necessarily a guarantee for anything, especially seeing as I really need a buffer because I'm going away for a couple of days next week but...

For the moment, everything is going better than I could have ever hoped or dreamed. It makes me giddy.

yeah, i kinda thot i would be floundering like all the other times i have tried to write something substantial. and after many false starts and mentally scratching out the previous novel ideas which never went anywhere, i just started writing what was in my eyesight and it became a picture within a picture where i could see what was going to happen. very weird.

and i loved what was written by the nanowrimo people, about knowing that a lot of crap will be written. i feel that. i know there will be genius lines mixed in tho, so i will revel in those few moments when they happen!

I may be just about average when it comes to work count but my story is going somewhere that I didn't think ti can go and I think I'm liking it. I have very little plot at the point in time but considering the amount of back story and fluff I've written so far, I think that will be okay for at least a week or two.

I was writing my typical fairytale esque fantasy but it's going in a much darker direction with much more grown up themes then I'm accustomed to and it's making much more interesting... for now at least.. I think I just need to start working on not just witting 1766 words a day, but witting that and then keeping going... I get lazy :(

BUT, i think this is going better than I had expected...

It's really sad, but after three years of starting NaNo and giving up after three days, I've made it to 7 pages and about 2,200 words. I shouldn't be proud, but I am.

This is going very well! I've easily stomped on my word-record for anything else I've ever written. I didn't like the story at the beginning but now I see its potential. The entire opening is going to have to be completely re-worked, but I have a point! And Characters! And a plot!
