No, not just because of the long shift I put in yesterday. Someone on the Melbourne regional forum has just posted that they are FINISHED, and at 72 K. You can only admire the stamina of some people.

Hmm. 72K in one day? I may be an old sceptic, but I don't think this is likely. 3,000 words an hour average?
I've seen people cheating before - one person did a huge, multiple copy and paste of one sentence to get to 50k. What's the point in doing things like this?

Stamina... or obsessiveness? xD; You have to wonder about something like that - even if it is an actual coherent story, what if most of it was prewritten? (Maybe they don't actually understand the rules of NaNo?) Also, what is the POINT of finishing on the first day, no matter how you do it? You might as well not take part at all because then you miss out on 29 days of writing fun.

I agree, we still have 29 days of fun left.

I completely agreed with the first comment, and then the second and then the third, and then I suspected I'd probably just contradicted myself. Anyway I probably had every reaction everyone else had, just thought it rather astounding that anyone could be such a masochist and then flaunt it.

It's nowhere near impossible. Towards the end of last year's NaNo, I was averaging 100k a day... tons of coffee and dead wrists got me through.
You're talking about delayra... well... did you see her count last year? We both got over the million mark in a race and I really do salute her stamina. This year, we're being relatively modest and she has done so well with everything else.
High counts are easy when you type fast and for extensive periods of time of infinite amounts of coffee and sugar. December.. you die for a month and recover from injury >>
I could be there... but I'm only handwriting this year :( So much ink

That is an awful amount of words, and I doubt that was all written on Day One. More than likely this person either started before Nov. 1st or copy pasted tons. So sad, because Nanowrimo isn't about anything other than proving to yourself that you can do it. And they will have to wait until the 25th before they can get the 'winner' banner for their blogs... Oh well.

When she gets going, she goes for the straight runs. How is that impossible when you're a fast typer and motivated to get it all done so you can sort out other things.
*huggles to delayra* I still beat you last year.. just :p
