I don't know if this happened to anyone else, but I got to my first big group of peopl and didn't have enough names.
I found this website today. It has 1000 of the most popular surnames and first names, male and female, in the United States.

http://names.mongabay.com/most_common_surnames.htm

You will see the links for the first nmaes on the webpage. I like it because they are in popularity not alphabetical order. If you don't want the most popular-start with number 500.

I have added an .rtf version to my writing folder for future reference and listed the ones I plan to use for this novel in my notebook.

I usually go to babynames.com and look up names based on specific meanings that have relevance to my characters or plot.

Oh, I used this for my fanfic once. ;D

sometimes I just google a specific name with that specific meaning, and various links come up. I even make up names, so as to be original, but yeah.
