At the moment to get my novel off the ground I am listening to :
Brand New (live versions and acoustic versions)
Manchester Orchestra
Kevin Devine
It is setting the tone of my novel pretty well and it is chilled enough that it doesn't make me want to go out but into it enough to keep writing.

I'm currently listening to Radio 4 - but I can't listen to words when I'm writing, so it's been:
Stephen Caudell - Wine Dark Sea
MIke Oldfield - Just about anything
My Hubby playing mandolin
Good topic!

I'm mostly just relying on last.fm's folk tag radio to turn up new and interesting things; If I listen to something I know too well already I tend to get a tad distracted by following along.

Right at this moment it's Schadenfreude from Avenue Q. It's making me feeling better about being way behind in my word count.
But for writing, I'll use a mix tracks from movie and game soundtracks and sort of rock. Just a couple:
Red - Innocence and Instinct album.
Transformers soundtrack
Various Nickelback (which is weird because I don't really like Nickelback)
Good old Spotify:

Hiya,
Film soundtracks are good for me. Gladiator and Pirates of the Caribbean are great for writing to, full of energy and emotion.
Pink's good too, love her music.
Good luck everyone, happy writing.xxx

Jeff Buckley - I'm enjoying the mellow at the moment.
Anything too rock-centred is putting me off because I just want to sing along and play air drums! :)

Currently it's the Juno soundtrack. It's nice to listen to and not too distracting.
----------For the rest of the day, though, I've been listening to Andrew Lloyd-Webber's Variatons.

I'm currently listening to some sermons by Martin Lloyd Jones. They were recorded in the 60s, and I found the collection of tapes in a cupboard at home. managed to get them converted to CD.
They're really helpful because they're the only talks I have been able to find on Satan and the Supernatural. *insert evil laugh*
It really gives the imagination a kick start.

I keep finding myself dancing when I should be writting. I just get into a mini-flow state with the writing and that transfers over to the music listening and before you know it i'm tapping away instead of writing! Anyhow, heres my playlist so far:
http://open.spotify.com/user/chambermonk/playlist/36YOsjyLAkwUhFjBcEEW0b
A lot of modern folk stuff but someheavier things. Most of it is mellow and reflects the mood inside my main charecters mind. This way I can sort of let it out a little in the writing without giving it away just yet.
So main artists here:
Glen Hansard
----------Joshua Radin
Sigur Ros
Eg
The Beautiful Mistake
Lisa Hannigan
... and others. Enjoy!
:)
