I was wondering if there was anyone else here that's new to NaNoWriMo besides me :) If so, speak up!

This is the first year I actually can. I turned thirteen on September fourth of this year. I can't wait to see how my novel turns out.

This is my first year. I heard about it from John Green, one of my favorite authors, and although I'm fairly certain I'm an absolutely horrible and mildly dyslexic, I thought this sounded like fun. And I knew I'd never write a novel without being pushed.

I'm new this year after a long, long, long break from writing. I was thrilled to learn about NaNoWriMo. It's great that there's a group in this area too because it seems like "normal" people don't want to hear about what writer's write.

Hello, ny name is Maria. I just joined this morning and I must say, I'm very nervous about the whole thing. What if i can't find anything to write about? What if it sounds stupid. AAAAAAAh. I've wanted to be a writer since I was a little girl. But I lack the self confidence. Any suggestions?

Maria -

I just read your plot synopsis on your novel info page. It sounds so intriguing and creepy, and I really want to see what comes of it! I think you have the potential to be a fantastic writer, you just have to take a deep breath and remember "There are over 100,000 people that are just as crazy as I am for doing this and they're all thinking the same thing I am."

Even those of us that have been doing NaNo for years still come into this month with that sense of "Oh God, what did I get myself into?"

Never edit during November. If you write a section of your novel that you don't like, either use the strike out feature on your word processor, or just change the text color to white. It will still count to your word count, and you'll be able to go take it out later. Anyone has the potential to tell an amazing story, you just have to take the time and have the patience to let it come out.

You say you've wanted to be a writer but you lack the self confidence, then this is the perfect avenue for you. You have a community of people on these boards that know exactly how you feel! You can talk to all of us, because at one time or another, we all felt the same way. And to be honest, if you've put even one word of a story down on paper, you ARE a writer because you've accomplished more than 95% of people out in the world do when they say "I want to write a novel someday." You've already started one and kicked that "someday" novelist out the window. Keep plugging away at the story, and even if you don't make it to 50,000 words, be proud in the fact that if someone says "I want to write a novel someday" you can proudly and truthfully respond "Oh yeah, I already have."

Oh, also, if you get a chance: You should come to some of the Write Ins! They're our NaNo meet ups during the month and they're listed on the calendar in the header of our main lounge area. You'll get to meet some of your fellow writers, have a ton of fun, and it's a great way to get inspiration and hit your word count.

I'm "kinda" new I guess, I knew about NaNo but never joined though I did try it unofficially last year.

Though Maria don't worry we all got hang ups My mother is a writer and is working on book... um, I think she's on 27 of the 60+ plots she has. Two are Star Trek and the rest are romance and then my third cosine wrote about his experience in WWII so yea, I think we all got a weight in the insanity. It's just varies from person to person.

Hi, Maria! I'm a somewhat newbie to NaNo - I started once before a couple years ago and had to drop out to work on another project. Figured I'm in a changing place right now and this would be a great jumpstart.

Not sure if you're into visualizing but I have to sometimes literally flick the internal editor/discreditor off my left shoulder. That creature that wants to whisper in my ear that I can't do this or what I'm writing is drivel. Like was said earlier, you've made a big step to be here and write that first word. Hang in there, focus, and we'll make it to the finish line together.

@Violent Ends

Yes! I KNEW if I sharpie'd DFTBA on my chucks long enough the Gods of Awesome would send a fellow Nerdfighter my way! I technically live in Pleasant Hope, about 17 miles east of Springfield, but I've gotten three of my friends to do this with me, and we hope to go to Borders on Friday.

I don't think I can go to the Borders event, but I'm going to the Rendezvous coffee shop. Ironically, I was listening to Nerdfighteria Island when I saw you said John Green was talking about NaNo. I really thought for a good year that I was the only Nerdfighter anywhere near Springfield. I live in Marionville, about thirty miles away, so I might go to a few less events. Best wishes on your novel.

Hello and yes.... this is a first for me becoming a member of 'any' type of writing forum or motivational gathering of artists. It seems like a great idea and so I thought, "What the heck!" What appeals to me is this website's idea of writing to begin and then 'FINISH'! { In a month's time!! } Without the detailed re-read and re-write and edit that we all put ourselves through it almost becomes a sort of Jack Kerouac 'spontaeneous prose-writing style ala 'ON THE ROAD' as well as many other works by him. I'm gonna charge in with a sudden idea for this shorter-style novel {this 50,000 word ouvre} and give it an honest 'GO'! Anyway, yes, I am new to this and looking forward to the whole month's creative splashing of word and subject for better or worse. Thanks for the time...signed Bobby C. (Robert Scott Caldwell)

I'm so glad there are so many other neebies!
I'm having a tough time and am worried about reaching the 50k word count. My main reason is I can not sit for very long due to a lower spine :( But I will still try. Frequent trips to the coffee machine and occasional breaks to lay down and rest my spine and tailbone should help me get through :)
I already have a friend who has offered to read and edit my novel when I complete it :) He's excited about NaNoWriMo. While I don't think he will try to write one himself this year, I may be able to get him to join next year which would be fun!
Well, hubby will be home soon so I'm going to try to push to 1k before he gets home.
Happy writing to everyone!

I'm a little late replying on the noob forum, but I haven't been on the NaNo site much except when i'm updating my word count... which I do more often than I should.

Hah, new thread idea: Telltale signs of a NaNoWriMo noob

1. Updating your word count meter every 100 words.
