I've never really attended a write-in, haha. What should I expect :]?

I'll be at Borders! Here's a typical write-in.... at least, the ones I've hosted....

1. Tables are gathered.
2. Electrical outlets are seized (I bring a six-outlet converter or a surge protector so that we can hook up multiple laptops)
3. Coffee and other beverages are acquired (My typical drink is either a coconut or raspberry Italian soda)
4. Writing commences!! (Some people have laptops, others are on paper and type up later)
5. Word wars occur (word wars are short, timed 'challenges' between writers... usually for fifteen minutes... where everyone tries to write as many words as they can during that time frame... basically, for bragging rights)
6. Sometimes, small groups will then find a place to get dinner after the write-in; sometimes, people will migrate to someone's house/apartment/dorm instead... it all sort of depends on how things are going
7. Write-ins at the airport will often include mini-tours or mini-adventures up to the top tier of the parking structure

Also, I often bring things to help with writer's block... plastic animals, random objects in a bin, crayons and paper, etc, etc...

Expect...

-Lots of support from fellow writers
-People randomly asking what you're writing about (we usually have a sign or something so everyone knows where to go to)
-Fun and Friendly Comradery
-Me making at least one mention of cheesecake or goats. Or both.

I'm thinking about going - I'd love to meet some other writers in the area. But, and I say this with much embarrassment, I'm currently in need of some major dental work but a little short on the "funds" for what my Insurance Company has deemed "cosmetic" and thus won't cover. So I feel and look a lot like a stereotypical, very rotund, bag lady - especially when I smile. (No offense to bag ladies intended).

Btw, in case your interested, did you know that a full set of dentures costs anywhere from 4 to 6k? And most places demand a at least half or more of that up front. *sigh* And that's not including the cost of extractions and preparatory work.

But I'm sooooo not a house bunny and if I can get over my own self-consciousness about the teeth thing - I may show up. It definitely sounds like fun. :) (And of course, now that I've said this - if I do go, I'll be even more self-conscious - irony, gotta love it!)

Hey. I'm 4'9" - if you wanna be self-conscious together, I'm game, haha.

This sounds pretty fun, though. I'll definitely be joining :D...

Also... I live right by Mitchell International if anyone's doing a meet there. I love the airport!

Hopefully I can come by for a while, but I don't have a laptop and I'm afraid I'll go crazy having to write with pen and paper (or, alternatively, it will end up almost unreadable). If anything hopefully just being around other NaNoers for a while will help get me inspired! (The kick-off definitely got me pumped for day one.)

The address of the Borders is...

5250 S 76th St.
Greendale, WI 53129
(parking lot of Southridge)

Also, NaNoWriMo is an awesome, fun writing time, and not a beauty contest.

In fact, for my sake, I'm fortunate it's not a beauty contest... 'cause there's totally no way I'd get to be an ML if that was the case!

But... it's an awesome, fun writing time! And... I happen to LOVE awesome, fun writing times!

Besides, we're all beautiful, creative people on the inside, and that's what really counts!

Can't wait til Saturday! (especially since I'm only barely making minimum counts on my own)

Hopefully I'll be able to make it. I work until 5 that day so I may only be able to show up for the last hour or so.

Unfortunately, the first basketball game for MU is at 2 on Saturday, so I'll probably be going to that. But if those plans fall through, I'm all yours!

I'm going to be there for the first part- I'll have to leave around 4:30 or so to get to work, but hopefully I can get a bunch of words in during that 2 1/2 hours!

My boys and I will try to be there. My sweet husband has to work a 24 that day, but his goal is to make it to at least one write-in to meet some of you. Even though we are all moving very slowly on our word counts, we are having fun and excited to just be attempting NaNoWriMo :)

See you there! I'm two days in to NaNo and still don't know what I'm writing about, but I'm sure something fun will emerge soon. At least that's how it worked for me in the past, LOL! Gotta love the freedom of NaNo to write crap until you strike gold.

I am going to try to make it! Hopefully, I'll be dragging a brand newbie nanoperson - she jumped on at the eleventh hour. (still reading the book, lol) She's terribly excited - and that's so nice for ME!

Zhie, thank you so much for the kick-off party - it was a blast. You really put the work into it. I took the word "POKE" off the window and my cat ate it. He is incredibly pleased with himself. I have hidden my plot bunny origami from him...

See you Saturday!

...and, omg, can I just add this? I opened my plot bunny tonight. Not only are they fun/interesting suggestions, but the INK COLOR MATCHES THE PAPER COLOR.

I so love that!

I am going to try to be there. It might even be a nice day. This will be my first write in so I am curious as to what writing in a group really means and if it will help or hinder my thinking about my story.

I am seriously considering attending the write-in. It would be my first and, since this is my first NaNoWriMo, it might be pretty stellar! These things seem to be really productive. If I do come, I can't wait to meet all of you other writers! =]

I plan on attending for some of it! I'm unfortunately only on a temps license right now so either I need to hitch a ride (at least one way) or take the bus. Not that big of deal, especially with the reward of meeting a bunch of fellow NaNo writers! =D I'd think the atmosphere would get me going, too. I could certainly use it....

Sweet! I'm just off of the Oklahoma exit of 794, puts me within eight or so minutes of the airport. =) BTW, Luckeh, did you see that on Sunday there's an invite to Anodyne on KK? Since you're by the airport, I'd assume this would be a close place for you to get to.

I look forward to meeting people!

I wish I could come, but I've going to have my kids in tow (2 1/2 and 1 year old). I was supposed to have a babysitter for this, but that fell through. I really wish I could be there to meet you all, since I missed the kick-off. Oh, well, maybe next time. Have fun!

We need to set up write-in play dates! How many of you out there have wee ones? I've written all my books with wee ones underfoot. Now they are older (8 and 13), but I can sure sympathize.

I'm all psyched up! See folks in a few hours! I just need to eat lunch and gather my supplies...

I was trying to figure out if I had "appropriate" writing ware and then realized I have my Writing Center t-shirt. Woohoo! I'll be the gal in the maroon tee and red skirt. Looking forward to meet everyone!

At the write-in yesterday I was talking with a couple people about the word processor I'm using for NaNo with its bare minimums, no underlining typos/misspellings, and handy "word goal" + word count, word war timer, AND a wonderful full-screen mode to hide those tempting tabs to go back to your net browsing.

This is a free program, although apparently only for Windows-users, and was especially made for NaNoWriMo. Check out the rest of the information and download it from this website. Enjoy!

Note: When backing up your story from this, I recommending select-all/copy/paste to GoogleDocs/Word/etc. Opening the the *.txt file out of the Tool doesn't recognize the paragraph breaks for some reason.
