Got a good guy that is so memorable you think he/she's alive? Got a really evil bad guy? Introduce them here. Tell us about your characters and why you are writing about them.

Caught with his hand in the cookie jar as a young lad and thereby suffering the loss of his left hand, Philidore learned to live lawfully in his home land, called Alutia, where thievery (and most everything else) is simply not tolerated. At the "tender" age of 17, he signed on with the merchant ship "Angel's Horizon", where he quickly learned to live the life of a seaman. However, after about two days of actual sailing, he became bored with his new found station in life and staged his later famous "One-man mutiny".

Actually, it was something of an accident. Mistaking a spot on his spyglass for a distant vessel, he called his captain over for a look. The captain, who saw only a sparkling horizon through his own glass, berated the young man for his ineptitude. Philidore grew angry at this and pushed the captain. Off the boat, as it turns out.

Seeing what he'd done, Philidore yelled, "Man overboard!" When the first mate came over for a look, Phil panicked and pushed him overboard too. He did the same thing when the third and fourth mates came over to investigate. Since few among the crew could actually swim, a general pandemonium ensued, during which Philidore simply ordered that the ship resume its course. When the remaining crew made him the Captain, he renamed the ship "The Devil of the Deep Blue Sea".

Most people mistake the crossed scars on his face for battle wounds. Ha! The truth of that matter is that Philidore's first port of call was spent trying to find a hook for his left stump (all self-respecting pirates have them, you know). The blacksmith was all out of hooks, so the Captain settled for a stylish dagger instead. He quickly discovered, however, that he had a habit of scratching his face while he slept. This caused him to suffer a great many cuts. Phil quickly got rid of the knife, replacing it with a much more useful spoon, such a tool being suitable for eating his breakfast cereal in the morning.

Phil also happens to possess one of the sharpest wits this side of Mediocrity. His jokes are bad, and his puns are even worse.

Main Character – Not sure of his actual name yet, but he's called Rakko (phonetical Japanese romanization). I did that mostly in order to keep the story somewhat ambiguous as "sea otter" in Japanese is also rakko. He's kind of a bored rich-kid since he won the lottery. He has academic aspirations and such but these keep falling through because he had a low GPA in college or what-have-you.

Esaman – This is the golden otter the yukar (Ainu epic poem) I am basing my story on centers upon. Appears to be a normal sea otter until his coat becomes gold (in appearance or actuality, I'm not sure yet). The otter in the original story is nameless as far as I can tell, so I'm calling him by the Ainu word for sea otter so as not get confused by the MC.

Minstrel – Randomly shows up—such as while the MC is playing the video game Borderlands, where no such character exists—in different places to facilitate as narrator et al like in many ancient epics. This is more of a role than an outright character.

Hordes of People – Not sure who they are yet but I know that they are the antagonists after the golden otter (as the original epic goes).

This is really about as far as my character building has gone thus far. I might put something up later on my excerpt page or something.
