Hi--my name's McKenna, and as you can see, I'm way behind. I noticed on the introductions thread that there are a lot of UO students doing NaNo. We should set up a place to gather and collectively novel on weekends or something--non-students would be welcome too, of course. Unfortunately, my free time lately has mostly been spent sleeping, so I haven't had much time to explore all the good spots on or near campus. Any suggestions?

In the early morning (well.. early for me, I live in Springfield and commute via bus to school every morning so I'm usually either late to class or an hour early depending on if the bus driver is awesome or not) I like to hang out in the EMU in front of Mangiamo. On not rainy days I like to sit in that little covered area by Columbia... Basically places with a little bit of stuff in the surroundings to distract and/or inspire me. Knight Library is nice but makes me uncomfortable with how quiet it gets xD

I'm still a Freshman though, so I haven't ventured out far from my comfort zones yet >w<

The 4th floor of the Knight Library is a favorite spot of mine. I like to sit in one of the chairs by a window with my feet on one of the accompanying round little tables. I sit in the quiet area that's at the.....right end of the building when you're facing it from the Memorial Quad. It's pretty quiet up on the 4th floor and there's a nice view. The couches in Straub Hall are also very comfortable and quiet so I like to occupy them on some Wednesdays when I'm there for my morning College Scholars PSY 201 class. The tall tables by the window in the Fishbowl at the EMU are pretty good spots too when they're not all occupied. I also like the tables in the lobby of Lillis. There's plenty of nice little niches around campus. I'm a freshman too, so I haven't found them all yet. When it's not raining, that opens up even more options.

We can get a conference room in the Knight Library, the only problem is you have to plan it a few days in advance to give them a heads up :/

The EMU is always a bright, cheery place, and it's not too loud if you're not there during peak hours. Easy access to food + beverages is a plus. Comfortable booths in the area in front of Mangiamo, plus couches in all kinds of other areas. The Knight library is good, but I tend to associate it with studying!
The Honors College library is a really good place - unless it's finals week, it tends to be very quiet in there, but you don't feel like you're Breaking The Library Silence when you talk.

My vote is for somewhere in the EMU - it seems like the perfect laid-back, fairly quiet area.

If you will let me know via PM where you decide to gather. I would like to include your UO corners in the Writer's Corners thread I will soon be posting. I would like some instructions for parking and finding the "select" location for those non-students who may live close to the campus and would enjoy getting away from the familiar four walls of home to do some writing.

Thanks, you guys rock!

I really like the EMU too, especially the lounge right off the fishbowl with the nice couchs and chairs. And there are places to plug in your laptop, so that's helpful too. I'm actually sitting here right now, taking a little break from my noveling session. It'd be fun to create a little group session, I'd definitely be up for it in the evening some day.

I find this very interesting and entertaining:) just goes to show that you can find wrimos everywhere hehe. by the way my names Kayl Johnson. The awkward red haired one, that has a general look of disarray. anyway .... now is the time i say something profound or awkwardly make an exit. I believe I'll go for the later. see ya in class:]

Small world indeed - srohrich, I believe I know you from SLC, or SSS camp as it is now :)

So, let's meet in the EMU sometime. What days work for you guys? If it's going to be in the evening, a Thursday would be best for me, but during the day I'm pretty flexible.

Tuesdays and Thursdays are pretty good; I'm done with my classes before 1 every day though so most of the time I'm pretty free. Thursdays between 12 to 4 would be especially awesome because I'm already on campus hanging out with a friend... who I convinced to do NaNo (she posted as AnmlBri in this thread =P)

I have three essays due one after another next week so I'm going to be tied up with that but I'll need to do a lot of catching up the week after!

Please drop me a Nanomail with time, date, and location of your Write-In so that it can get posted on the regional calendar.

I plan to be in the EMU on Veteran's Day from approximately 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Join me for an impromptu write-in and get your official NaNoWriMo sticker. (As I will not have access to the wifi, I will have to tweet my location.)

Oooh, awesome but lame at the same time. That would be a perfect time for me because it's right after I'm done with classes for the day, but I have two essays and a project due this Friday so I'm working on all that this week =( I might show up for a while though ^^

I will have a fluorescent yellow-green t-shirt which says "Yes, I'm in charge here" or something like that. It's the official ML shirt for NaNoWriMo. I may or may not be wearing it. At the very least I will drape it over a chair or my backpack so that it is visible.
