Hello all NOLA Wrimos:
I could get my Uncle, a library worker, to let us use a big, comfy library room on Saturday, November 14, 2009.
We would be at the East Bank Regional Library.
The room would have electrical plugs, so we could bring our surge protectors and laptop chargers.
I think there will also be beanbags we can borrow to lounge around on; chairs with tables can be used, too.
I was thinking we could go from around 9:00AM-2:00PM; you could come and go as you please.
After, or even during our write-in, we could all possibly go eat lunch in the library's little cafe.
If anyone is interested, please post the times you feel are convenient.
Is anyone in New Orleans a teenage participant besides me?
Thanks everyone.
Simone

I work doubles on Saturdays. :-( But it sounds fantastic! Maybe we coud do it on a weekday too? Friday and Thursday nights are best for me. I always heart a good library visit.
Good luck on Saturday! :-) -Brittany

That sounds like a great place to write. I live near East Bank Regional and I love hanging out in libraries. Morning works for me but you've suggested a good-sized window for those who prefer afternoon...I'd definitely be interested!

Hey, I'd love to visit the library! I just moved here and haven't been there yet.
Those times work fine for me, but I'm much more an afternoon fan. Just let me know!

Just to clarify, I mean the Saturday times...I work on Friday until 6 so I couldn't be there then.

To accommodate everyone's schedule, we will have a NaNoWriMo weekend!
You can come and leave as you please on any day you choose; just try to let me know in advance when you'll attend.
I will try to get a room for the following days and times:
Friday: 3:00PM-5:00PM
Saturday: 9:00AM-2:00PM
Sunday: 9:00AM-2:00PM
I will be there all three days for the entire time, and my name is Simone.
Feel free to invite non-Wrimo friends as well.
I will call the library today and see if a room is available.
The address is:
4747 W Napoleon Ave in Metairie.
Please bring money if you wish to purchase snacks from the library cafe.
The room we "rent" will most likely be soundproofed, so we will be able to talk and laugh as we please...yay!
I will re-post later the location for our room.
If this write-in is enjoyed, then I might try to organize another weekend for November 20, 21, & 22 @ the same times.
Anyone interested?
Thanks and happy writing.

Unfortunately, the library's meeting rooms cost $70 per hour...ouch.
On the bright side, we could all just meet in the library's cafe.
IMPORTANT: If we meet in the cafe, everyone must purchase something from the cafe.
It's sad that there are no beanbags in the cafe; so, if you have a suggestion for somewhere comfier, please tell us.
We could meet at a StarBucks instead; yet, we would still have to purchase something.
Is anyone interested in asking a bookstore, such as Borders?
We might have to purchase something there, too.
Sorry that this is so unorganized right now.
Please comment ASAP on which venue you prefer.
Thanks.

I'm in favor of someplace that isn't coffe-only! I don't drink coffee, but I know I'm in the minority, so I can be flexible too. :-) I'd love to attend Friday and/or Saturday. Good times ahead! :-) -Brittany

We could ask Borders or Barnes and Noble, too.
Do you want me to ask them?
Do you have anywhere you prefer to go?
I know McDonald's has free wi-fi, but I don't think we would want to go there. :P

If you contact Borders they may be able to set us up as "group" and if we meet every week on the same day in November we may be able to get not only permission, but a discount.

A discount for what?
It costs money to relax and write in there too?
Geez, the world hates writers! :/
Since you apparently know what you're doing, raenboe, do you mind contacting Borders?
Thanks so much.

I hate to be the one to poke holes in all your plans, but I've been looking at this and thinking...
Which one? Are you even talking about the same Borders or Starbucks? Everyone isn't in the same part of the city, I'm fairly sure. I'm in uptown, from what I've read through in this thread there's at least two people in the East Bank, etc....
Also, I suspect I may not be the only one without a car, so there might be difficulties getting to places that aren't easily accessible by streetcar or foot unless people are willing to give rides.
Oh, and I'm a teenage participant, too :)
----------Don't mind the lack of word count. I'm writing by hand, because a spiral is easier to carry around than a laptop for those moments when I need to heed the call of nature (my nature being to write).

I strongly suggest -
If location is a significant issue for you, but you want to meet with other's in your area, that like the Tulane Student thread you start your own with your "location" as the subject line. (i.e., Old Metairie, Uptown, Kenner, etc.) That way you can stay on the thread with people who are in your immediate area. The only area that I will not be going to is the West Bank (sorry folks)...but I don't like bridges and I hate tolls even more.
Or you may want to go with school thread (UNO, Loyola, SUNO, Ben Franklin, etc.).

I think Borders could be easily done, as we might just have to buy a drink or two from the cafe.
Raenboe: I don't want to exclude non-New Orleanians who have transportation available to this location, but thanks anyway!
Anyone who has the means to get to and from the Borders at 3131 Veterans Memorial Boulevard in Metairie can come.
We will meet in the cafe, and then decide where we want to relax at.
Who's in?

If no one with a car could bring you, then I'm sure I can find an uptowner who is willing to give you a lift.
I promise I'll work on it ASAP. :)
Yay--another NOLA teen!
What school do you attend?
I go to Haynes...know anyone?
Nice to know I'm not alone on the teenager front.

Evening all~
If this gets nailed down I can plan to be there and give rides on Sat or Sun (or Fri after 2:30). I'm in the Irish Channel, so Uptown's no problem.
If, on the other hand, no other locations present themselves, I have an idea: after a bizarre few weeks that've involved me clearing out my front parlors* I find myself with two big, largely empty rooms. There's a couch (possibly two), a chair, huge desk, etc, though extras chairs would be helpful. We're in walking distance of Starbucks, Parasol's, and awesome Stein's New York Style Deli.
Happy to offer it up for everybody's use, but let me know ASAP.

Never heard of Haynes...
I'm actually a freshman at Tulane, so I've been poking around that thread a bit, but I'd kinda like to meet some people outside of the college, you know? First years aren't allowed to have cars, though, which is a bit of a problem. I know some people that do have cars, and might be willing to give me a ride, but they'll like as not want to sleep on the weekends till 11 or 12....
Well, we'll see what happens :)

Sorry to all who can't come!
We might do another write-in the week after, so keep checking back to see more information!
Invite as many non-Wrimos and Wrimos as you want!
At least ten people per day would be a nice turnout, so feel free to invite anyone and everyone!
I hope to see you there; I'll be wearing a Haynes Homecoming shirt and beige jean shorts with leggings
I'm so excited!
A lot of teenagers might be there, as I'm inviting about thirty freshmen; not all will be free, though.
We will have a great variety of ages!
Thank, everyone, and keep up the great job on writing!
Simone:)
