I was wondering what collection of people we get here in this sunny country of ours that write novels.

What do you do in between writing and writing? The thing that pays for the coffee you're guzzling by the tank? (I need a coffee-drip)

And then...do you ever write at work? Like quietly with a piece of paper during quiet times? Or are you just so busy that you don't even get the chance?

I'm an electrical engineer doing repairs and maintenance, sourcing, production and manning the telephones in the afternoons. That puts me in the "real busy" category :P

I do DTP on two magazines, general office dogsbody and network admin for the office. That pays for my coffee. :)

I actually write mostly at work.
I'm a designer and I spend all day at the keyboard, so whenever I get a gap, I open word and bash away a couple of new paragraphs.
I actually find the prospect of sitting down to do nothing but write quite daunting.

I'm PA to a director of 3 huge companies. That makes the boss not-so-busy (he plays internet games all day!!!) and me a mad maniac.

For sanity I sneek in 15-minute writing sessions during the day. Four of those adds up to two thousand words!

I'm a statistician working for a market research company (although I don't actually drink coffee, so I don't have to worry about paying for it, but I do have other vices).

Last year I wrote at work, but I've changed jobs since then and this year I decided to try to not write at work unless I'm drastically behind on my word count. Partly because I'm busier now, and partly because I enjoy the work more, so I have fewer reasons to look for means of goofing off.

Freelancephotographermom. So I write on the pc while I'm uploading or doing some batch processing to pics on photoshop or photomechanic. And then, when I'm waiting for kids (late in picking one up right now), I write in coffee shops or in the car while waiting. Sneak in a quick write before bed, when I say 'just going to switch off upstairs', and try to get one in in the morning, just after everyone's left and the house is nice and quiet for a short while.

And, really, am I the only wrimo who drinks wine?

Coffee stains your teeth.
Coke rots your teeth.
Water rusts.

Wine rules.

I basically a data hoarder / archivist person, in-house tech (because our techs are THAT shoddy) and general grunt/dogsbody at a local university's research office.

I'm also the youngest, liveliest and supposedly strangest person in my department which basically makes me the office (or perhaps floor's) weirdo.

So besides when my boss calls me into his office to try and figure out why his Vista is evil, or getting queries about "how do you do that in Excel again???", I walk up and down the passage with a big stick and threaten people into giving me their projects' data. Then I go and sit in my little dungeon and add numbers and figures and stuffs to people's names. And then my boss or his boss tells me to give people all kinds of information or draw up presentations so that they can tell Faculties how crummy the university is performing in terms of research.

This year I haven't done any writing at work so far, but I don't think I'm going to need to... hopefully.

I'm a workaholic accountant when I'm not writing NaNo.

A perfectionist workaholic accountant.

And Accounting Tutor.

And part time Tax Consultant.

And... and... and... but I won't get into that here.

Doesn't really tie in with the whole NaNo thing, does it?

Oh well.

Nothing has to tie in with the NaNo thing WinterWhite. We are all very different people from different walks of life. WITH one thing in common, we're all MAD!
MAD, I tell, you insane! Sanity has been lost, we are no longer residents of the Village Normal. We have been banished! We are wanderers, nomads... Lost in the harsh desert of 50K!!

okay, um you can all laugh now, because I write books. *sigh*

But between that I home-school two crazy sprogs and listen to a lot of music and do some other stuff.

I want your job. That is why I am doing this.

I'm a schoolkid, so my parents pay for the coffee I don't consume. I don't get much money, as it stands.

I think the "I want to write books" is why most people are doing this :D

I'm a Teacher/IT person by day and an IT Person/Web designer by night. I teach English and Computers to Primary School kids and run several websites on the side. Writing mostly takes place during the wee hours of the morning.

I'm "unemployed". gasp! Lol, its a long story, but basically I was in Canada for a year working some meaningless office job and arrived back in SA too late to sneak into University. I spent the year trying to write a book... but it was horrible really. Got scrapped. Next year however, I shall be a Fine Arts student. :)

To pay the bills I am a Python web-developer and I love my job, seriously!

In my "spare time" I don a number of other hats:
Wizards Play Network Organiser (Core Level) for RPGA (read: DnD [Dungeons and Dragons]) games in the Cape Town region
I have also been known to run a campaign or two when there is enough chocolate offered.

Loyal Friend, Dutiful Daughter and All Round Supporter and Chaos calmer to my friends and family.

My life is beyond busy but I love it immensely and even more every day. I am not a floater waiting for the Universe to flush me, I am one of those who prefers to grab the bull by horns and hold on for dear life until he lets me start directing him where I would prefer to go.

Oh and I nearly live online so if you need geeky help - ask!

I am a sales rep/office admin/stores manager/general office gimp for a small distribution company.

Otherwise I do karate and kobudo as well as roleplaying (Dungeons and Dragons), board gaming (Caracassonne, Settlers of Catan, whatever I am invited to) and playing computer games (RPGs mainly, Dragon Age arrives next week and it might kill my nano effort for the year)

I'm a Journo by profession, but is currently working at Nestlé as an interactive coms specialist. That means I keep the intranet updated. Otherwise I write, read, chat via social media, go walking, do a radio show about disability on 1485 radio today, (for community radio) by the way, how's that for advertising, and, try to maintain my lovelife, hehehe.

I'm a film production manager for a company that makes TV commercials. Which means that sometimes I'm hectically busy putting together a shoot (which is why I failed last year's Nano miserably) and at other times (like now!) I do as little as possible.

Right now I'm writing for an hour every morning before the kids wake up, and then at stolen moments throughout the day. That's the joy of being on your laptop all day, every day, and calling it work!

Ready for it?
I'm a Bsc Honours student with no job in her field so i'm working three part time jobs to keep the boat affloat. I'm a waitress by night, a horse riding instructor by day and a horse safari guide over the weekend. Ontop of that I have an active 'career' in fan fiction writing, so I do that inbetween (no profit of course, but tons of bragging rights...). That's probably going to take a bit of a dip this month with NaNo.
I also ride my own horse, but luckily he's in African Horse Sickness Vaccination down time atm, so I can't ride him as much.

You should sell your life to someone looking for a NaNo storyline :D
