With all the concern over flu season this year, I'm starting to wonder if a virtual write-in might be safer. For instance, pick a date and a 1-2 hour period. Announce one's arrival on the forum, and then post words typed at the end.
Of course, braving the challenge to attend a traditional weekly write-in still has its advantages as well.
Any thoughts?

Despite of H1N1 I am writing mostly in Cafes. You can often see at the Starbucks which is in the Indigo. I think it is a great place to write. You have books behind you and can sit there in the evening looking down at the Princess Street.
Maybe I see some of you there :-). You can recognise me at my special Macbook, when my Squirrel-Decal finitely arrives from the US ;-).
Best wishes from the Starbucks,
Thomas
PS: Who of you is going to get is H1N1-Shot?

I'm a bit bothered by a lot of this H1N1 business. It seems mighty suspicious that already there's a vaccine when the flu is just getting into the populace. Mighty suspicious.
I also have seen that the government has relaxed some of the safety standards normally applied to vaccines, but "because of the urgency" of this situation, the allowable mercury levels have been raised. So, no, I won't be getting the vaccine.

I'm not super concerned about the flu, from the friends I've known that have had it - it is just like the normal flu with a few different symptoms.
I've had a lot of people I know at work come down with the flu, and as a result, one of their parents who is a doctor gave the few remaining of us shots last night.
I've had no adverse reaction to it so far, just a sore arm all day.
From what I can tell the flu is hitting my gender and age bracket the hardest, and that is not a risk I am willing to take. Yes maybe the vaccine had to be produced quickly, but the mercury levels in it have been found to not cause harm, and they would not be giving it to high risk populations (including the sick, young and pregnant) if they did not think it was safe.

To be honest, it hasn't bothered me much. I'm on SLC's campus and have heard of a few cases of it being confirmed in the building. My roommate and I were sick a couple weeks back (as anyone who saw me at the intro/kick-off will know), and she asked me if I thought we had H1N1.
This is a girl who wants to go into nursing. x_x
Really, though, it hasn't affected me too much, and I think it's being blown way out of proportion by the media. I haven't had the vaccine, and since I really don't like needles, don't plan to. I don't even get the seasonal flu shot. So... I say carry on with holding real, live and IN PERSON write-ins, and if you're worried, no one will hold it against you for staying home. :)
