I've wanted to be a writer since i was in the fifth grade. But life has a way of getting in the way. I have had some great ideas for a novel, but when it comes to actually putting it down I get lost. Is this just a mental block, or should I just give up on the dream. I don't know. My soul says. " write write write write." My brain says, " you're too dumb to write a book. Who would want to read it any way." Am I the only one with this problem?

This is the time just to write and not to think those stopper thoughts.
Put it down do not think it out too much. WRITE WRITE WRITE
You can change it later after the month is over.

This is your time to make it waht you want.
Let it flow from your mindd and onto the page.. You have had the idea a long time use this month to get it written.
You do not edit and make it perfect now just get the words down

Well, thanks for the pep talk. Of course, I was looking for just that. It's so hard, but I guess nothing good ever came easy, did it? Good luck to you. Thanks again,

Write. Don't wait till you are my age (Don't know how old you are, I'm 54) and then wonder what if. What if I had followed this dream earlier and stayed with it. I could have been Nora Roberts. lol So for this month anyway, just write!

I'm 35. That's a lot of wasted time. I happened apon this contest while reading a book about writing. I've done a lot of that, reading about writing that is. But actually putting the words down... well, you know.

Hurrah! You're here so don't look back just write every day. Every author started somewhere and look at all you've already done in your life. Now it's time to write. And if you want a great book to continue to support your writing, check out THE ARTIST'S WAY by Julia Cameron. A twelve-step program to get you creating the amazing stuff you should create. I would suggest you wait to read it until December - this month, just write, write, write.
One of my favorite quotes from Julia Cameron - from a different book than the one I mentioned: "Okay Universe. You take care of the quality. I'll take care of the quantity." Here's to 50,000 words of quantity .

um, you're 35... so what?! I'm 44 and this is my first time participating and my first novel and I've wanted to write my whole life too. I can guarrantee you one thing - if you don't do this now, time will continue to pass while you wait to write, and someday you will look back on 35 and think "I was so young then!" Everything is relative. Plus, now that you aren't in the 5th grade, you have lots more material to draw from. Think of all the people you have met and experiences that you have had. I'm at 6,000 words! Catch me if you can!

congrats! I just hit 2, 107. I feel a little shell shocked. And there's this little voice in my head that keeps saying, " Everything you wrote today is crap." How do I make that stop.

Repeat this out loud:
It sucks.
It is okay that it sucks.
It is really, truly, 100% okay that you're writing crap. We're writing quantity, not quality. 1,000 word of crap is still 1,000 words. Everyone's novel sucks at some point. Heck, my second-year novel was one long example of suck. Really.
Actually, it's fantastic that it sucks right now. That's usually a mid-month issue, but you're getting it out of the way early.

Congratulations!
It's possible that everything you wrote is crap. Or it could be amazing. You won't know until you have a chance to re-read and edit it, which as i understand is what December is all about. Just keep writing!

Take your index finger and your thumb and flick the little bugger right off your shoulder. Really. Do it. Send the bugger right out of the room and away from you. And every time it comes close, do the same thing.
No one has the right to tell you it's crap, especially not during the first draft. And the action will make those two fingers stronger, able to type even faster .
