I was wondering how often everyone updated. I myself update after I've written for a few minutes and need to take a sec to collect my bearings, you know? Sometimes it'll only change by about a hundred words, but sometimes it goes up by five hundred. So, how much do you update?

Far too often. It's rare I get through a paragraph without the good old alt+t+w, and I update my wordcount every 200 words or so.

Once, twice a day.

Checking my word count on the other hand....
I swear I check it after every 20 minutes.

After a day's writing. I have to count the words by hand, so it's something of an event.

Usually two times a day. I like to write in two sessions usually, though more than that on weekends.

Once a day, I really just don't stop writing until I've reached the goal. Then I update and everything's right in the world. :-)

Haha, far too often for my own good. If I can't think of anything to write about, usually I'll update my word count to procrastinate from writing. XD usually I update at least every 500-1000 words and definitely before I go to bed/stop writing for the day.

I do a lot like you. If I can't think of anything I update my word count for motivation. :) even if I do it every 100 words, I am 100 words closer!

Never under every 1k, except for right at the end of the day. I'd get so angry if I didn't do a final update before midnight. :]

whenever the creative juices stop flowing (which is too often to be good)!

i really need to kick it up a notch, considering i'm already a full day behind since i started late and also because i've run out of ideas for the scene i'm currently working on. >.<

I tend to only write in 30 minute or 1 hour sprints, and I type pretty fast, so I update after every sprint. I like to see that progress bar jump forward a pixel or two, you know?

I update my wordcount at the site once a day, after I've stopped writing for the day.

But as far as checking my wordcount? Far too many times a day to count. At least 4 or more times, depending on how long I write.

I'm doing Word Wars so after each session I update. I have a live word count so all I have to do is look down and see my progress.

Pretty much every time I feel like procrastinating or run out of ideas for the moment - usually every 1,000 words or so. At least on my own CP. On the site it's pretty much every 2,000 words or when I finish writing.

I can't update mine for another couple weeks. I'm handwriting, so I have to wait until I see my mom again--she'll type it up for me, and then I'll know how many words I've written.

Almost every 100 words, I swear. Unless I got really into a scene then it takes a big jump.

I find that I check my wordcount so often that it actually hinders my progress - So I'm trying a new application that has a typewriter mode that won't allow me to check the wordcount. I figure I will update it on NANO every couple of days.

I'm pretty much the same schedule for updating my tracking spreadsheet, with every third or fourth update going into the NaNo site as well.

I usually write in one hour sprints if I'm feeling good, so after every sprint I update. Usually I jump between 800-1200 words. If I'm not feeling so good, then whenever I get bored or start feeling pain (Like right now, I finished a sprint, and my back is hurting. So when I was suppossed to start my next sprint, I ended up only writing about 500 words before my back hurt too much and I had to take a break, so I updaterd then)

Oh, man... sometimes it's pretty dang frequent. For the most part, I write in spurts. I'll write for a good ten minutes straight without stopping, and then I'll have to recap in my head and think of the next word. During that time, I'll usually update it and celebrate. So, about every 500 words or so. Often 200.

I've updated a few times today. I just take a little break and do a spellcheck and update the word count. NaNo runs a bit slow on my computer so while I'm waiting for the page to load, I end up writing quite a few more words.

That's pretty much what I do. I think last night I updated my count after writing only two words XD

This website is blocked on my computer at work (I guess too many of us were working on novels) so I tend to only update it once a day. Strangely, this makes me write more because I only get one shot at it, I feel. As for checking the word count, every few minutes...

The ratio of word count checks to good effective writing flow is an inverse relationship. I find that if I'm not bone tired and barely able to keep writing I rarely check my word count--possibly until the end. If I'm very tired and just trying to get things done it comes out slow and I check like once every two or three minutes.
